My mom always comes downstairs dancing when I play, and tells me how good I am.
That's one thing I love about her, she never complains when I play, no matter how loud I am. |
You use your thumb as a downstroke, then right hand tap the highest note and use your righthand index finger as the upstroke.
(My teacher showed me.)
Oh man, that would take me some work. It's already taking me a while to learn sweep picking on guitar.
I do too...but it pisses me off usually /some sort of complex My mom said I'm a good player, and asked if I was comparing myself to professionals. When I said of course she shook her head at me :-\
My parents rarely say anything, although they have told me I'm good. It's usually other people and my friend (one specifically) who tell me I'm good. |
Jumbucket did have a point though..this thread was getting a bit spammy. I agree with the posts that are just for 'good night thread' or 'sup thread' (We are all guilty of this) should be eliminated. I see nothing wrong with maybe adding that onto another post, but just posting for saying good night...bah.
Night Cain. EDIT: My mom always tells me how much progress I've made. My dad only compliments me when I play Pink Floyd. :p |
I learned how so that I could play some DEP songs but stopped practicing it and now can only doo really sloppy ones. I still tap pretty well though and can get 2 melody lines going at once.
|
Yeah but parents always tell you you are better than you really are. Its not that they try to make you feel better, they just dont know any better. My mom always tells me that im amazing and that im like a professional, even though I cant solo at all and im just not that good. She just doesnt know good guitar cause all she listens to is like Bob Dylan.
Well, that was just for the story of comparing ourselves to professionals...many people tell me I'm good. It's just that none of them are right :p I can play blues type stuff well enough, not much else though. |
My parents say I'm great, but they don't know too much about guitar.
Sorry High Voltage. |
Today I plugged my bass into a guitar amp with a guitar distortion pedal. By playing with distortion in the middle register of the bass I could get some really crunchy guitar sounds. Sort of like a really low-tuned metal guitar, but on the bass!
It's awesome and I don't have to detune my brother's guitar to drop-C or whatever to get that sound. But after a while I got bored and had to play some bass songs :( |

I love playing blues :D. Seriously, I played twelve bar with my guitar teacher for about an our (we took turns doing lead) and I still wasn't sick of it. Nothings more fun than lead guitar in blues. |

Yeah, but it's also pretty laid back. I can't do lead well in metal...at least not very clearly. Laid back is usually ok, but sometimes faster would be good too. |
I get so bored of playing blues. I bring my teacher some strange jazz riff I wrote that sounds really dissonant and bizarre but he finds what chords go where and then we trade of soloing over it. I like doing that because it teaches you to learn to switch modes really quickly.

i had never seen the old thread.
*shrug* guess i'm not regular enough |
Not to rush you or anything, but how is the second round of the bass polls coming along?
Oh man, that sounds like work :( I'll do them eventually. I also have to ask a mod to close all the earlier threads because I don't want people bumping them ever. I'll just tally up the results and KICK MIKE DIRNT THE FUCK OUT. Pop-punk bassist voted by pop-punk forum members? Hell no, not in R&M! |

I've never liked Jazz :-\ I've never tried playing it, but I can't listen to it for more than about half a sing usually so trying to play it is a lost cause for now. |
Guess not. Anyway, I am really exhausted. Ihung out with my girlfriend and her family tonight and it was a lot of fun. I like her family. Of course, I've known them all for years so it was more like eating dinner and spending time with friends, not a girlfriend's family.
Tomorrow, my band is playing at some kind's party who lives over an hour away. He went to middle school with us which is how we know him. SHould be fun. I'll sleep in tomorrow and take a nap to be well rested. I think we changed our band name too. From Space Holder to Translation Optima Night MX. Zep - I like Jazz because it's hard to follow. I really dislike easy to follow music because I think it gets boring. Maybe I have a short attention span or something but that is a main reason I like abnds like Gorguts and Ephel Duath. Everything is changing constantly. My teacher heard Ephel Duath (curtosey of me) and loved it. It confused the hell out of him but then he figured it out and was having a great time with it. |
I wanna find a good guitar teacher. Someone that can really help me progress. I've gotten a lot done in one year, but I think I need to learn some more theory. I can almost pick out an interval, and I know a couple scales, but beyond that, I've got no theory under my belt.
Pete-Name change courtesy of me. |
I'm tired as well. I had a long day of art classes, and looking for a soccer team. I might join an indoor team, that starts up next month. I would seriously dominate in that league, since I played Varsity and grew up playing soccer in Europe.
Time to go into a coma until 8am. Night all. |

I have a terrible attention span, but Jazz bores me, oh well. Night. |
I like my gf's family; however, I've only met them once.
EDIT: Goodnight...everybody  |
Find either a jazz guitarist or someone who majored in composition. They know the most about theory and will give you the skills to diversify what you learn from them. Getting some college kid who only knows rock and blues won't help that much because they can't give you every voicing of a Cmin (Maj7) chord that exists and tell you what scales each chord are found in.
|
I've never had a girlfriend; there was one girl I really liked but she hated me, and her parents and I got along well. *shrugs*
|
Ah, the late night begins. Or begun. Don't worry, y'all, I'll help look after the kiddies (n00bs). Goodnight to all those goin' to bed.
Now Watching: Animal House |
:(
Maybe I'll be content just playing Tool and Pink Floyd songs. Good night guys. I have to get up at 5 again tomorrow to drive tractor for my dad. :-/ gayness++ |

/elitism Yeh...well, I play for fun, and I have no desire to learn all that just to be able to play a genre of music I don't even like :) |

Now Watching: Animal House
Animal house is one of my fav. movies, to much originality. |
...poor StillRix *feels sorry for him*...
yeah i need more theory under my belt too, i was doing advanced theory in highschool some years ago, but dropped that coz it didnt fit with other classes, then soon after that picked up a guitar, never got back to much theory, (though some scales and chord progression excersises to check im still up to scratch)... wow that was like 4 years ago... anyone know any good free music theory websites? |

I don't even really like jazz or theory. It's all too foreign to me. Maybe after I grow a little more guitar playing skill I'll look into some lessons, but for now, I just like mindlessly wanking with lots of distortion. Again, buenos noches todos. |
Buenos noches, senore Jake. Mucha lateo.
RB, you got AIM? |
