Man you're a much cooler 13 year old than I was. When I was 13 I would have been rocking out to nu-metal and going to Linkin Park concerts. :thumb:

NP - Opeth - In the Mist She Was Standing

Yeah, I'm sure that there are lots of us here who were big nu-metal fans back in the day, at least for a little bit.

NP - Opeth - Forest of October (excellent riffing in this song!)

Jude 06-15-2006 10:54 AM

Haha, I was never a nu metal fan :elitism:

Nostalgia 06-15-2006 11:01 AM

The clean "moans" on Apostle In Triumph are great. God, Orchid is a great album.

Whale and Wasp 06-15-2006 11:17 AM

you mean around 9:00-ish where mike sings ooooooooooooooo-ooooooooooohhhh?

that is an awesome song. one time i was listening to it and staring out the window and it happened to start snowing outside, it was a beautiful moment.

Ah, that's awesome. There's nothing better in the world than when the weather outside matches the music you're listening to perfectly. It's like a perfect moment of synonimity with your entire being.

Nostalgia 06-15-2006 11:37 AM

Actually, yeah, I've had a time like that. I was driving up past the mountains with my Dad, and we passes a resivoir, and since it was winter, snow was covering it. It was really pretty. And as we were passing it, the piano was playing on Hours of Wealth.

Jude 06-15-2006 12:04 PM

The best was when I woke up one morning in January to find it was snowing unexpectedly. Morningrise was amazing.

Shadows 06-15-2006 12:04 PM

I was listening to Opeth last night. Man, I loooooooooooooove Opeth!

Too bad for me, when im listening to music, im either trudging around outside wishing the weather wasnt the way it was lol.

Or just on the computer, going to sleep and just relaxing. I hardly ever sit by the window.

Pathetic fallacy is a wonderous experience, I guess.

I actually kinda know what he means... hence my midnight strolls in the winter.

Nostalgia 06-15-2006 06:05 PM

I know exactly what he's talking about. It's just kind of cool whent the weather or presence of the weather matches what you're listening to.

To be honest, you don't even really have to be listening to music to get the feeling.

Shattered_Future 06-15-2006 06:07 PM

I love the feeling you get when you put on Hope Leaves as soon as you get up and look out at an unspoiled winter wonderland.

Then you get kicked in the balls when you realize that you have to shovel.

i am the robots 06-15-2006 06:08 PM

Like when you're in a really good mood, you look outside and it's a bright and sunny day?

That's how today was for me.

Toaster 06-15-2006 06:51 PM
I actually kinda know what he means... hence my midnight strolls in the winter.
Love those. :chug:

I'm not often in a really good mood. I'm usually fairly pleasant.

eug008 06-16-2006 01:04 AM
Er.. Morningrise? no..

Still Life man, or even Ghost Reveries.
Whats wrong with Morningrise?

penelope weird hands 06-16-2006 01:08 AM
just blackwater park so far, can you recommend what to get next?
I'd say get Still Life.
Then Damnation and Ghost Reveries if you find yourself liking the softer Opeth more, or My Arms, Your Hearse and Deliverance if you find yourself liking their heavier material.

Bah, go with your gut, you can't go wrong, they're all quality. :)

Fvck.. Harvest has to be one of my favourite songs of all time.
Those soft leads at the start get me everytime.
Listening to it in winter is quite provocative, emotionally.

TojesDolan 06-16-2006 01:41 AM

I relate Still Life with summer... probably the lyrics for the moor bias me. or that red cover.

Damn mental images.

Carrionshine 06-16-2006 05:02 AM

^ Word.Every album does that in a way.

Orchid to me takes place in a cold afternoon with the sun slowly dying down. The acoustic parts especially.

Captain Quentin 06-16-2006 05:36 AM

wow thanks for all the recommendations, i'll give still life a shot :thumb:

yeah i know what you guys mean, i was walking home the other night in the dark and i was listening to bleak, i dunno it just went well with nightime :p

Maybe because of the band photos on the album art?

Shadius 06-16-2006 02:48 PM
Whats wrong with Morningrise?
Nothing. It's just not the 2nd Opeth album you should get, at all, unless you're some kind of gothenburg fanatic or something then maybe i'd recommend it first.

I still don't "Get" Orchid and half of Morningrise, it's actually totally lacking in any form of energy for me. I hardly get anything out of the music, which is totally weird considering I love gothenburg metal (In Flames and Dark Tranquility).

Hearse onwards Opeth is genius though, as are the more clean segments of Moringrise.

Truth. I just got into them yesterday but I'm very impressed.
