I don't get it. |
Hi, I love Tool, I've been browsing this forum for a while now and I've finally decided to post :). I hav all of Tools albums and like most people I'm torn between aenima and lateralus. Aenima has the coolest song ever (Pu****) on it but i luv the maturity of Lateralus. My theory is that it's an album about the relationship between man and god. All the song lyrics seem to fit this theme and its the sort of thing that they wud do.

Glad to see another Tool fan on here. Honestly, your view on Lateralus is actually pretty good. I personally don't believe that that was what the band was going for, but what do I know? All the songs, technically, do seem to fit in with the idea of a man and his relationship with his god. I've never really heard that idea or theory before, but I like it. I do sense a lot of spiritualness in the lyrics actually. Plus, you know, the band says that Lateralus means "upward thinking." Taken literally, since the cliche is that heaven is above us and hell is below us, it could mean upward in the sense of God. |

I doubt that actually. Mainly because of a lyric in the title track. "as below, so above and beyond, I imagine." This stems from an old medieval saying, "as above, so below," meaning what happens in heaven (or some other higher plane) reflects what's going on down here. Tool reverse this, obviously they place more importance in this realm. |
so how come you guys all stopped working on the covers?
|
the upward thinking/lateralus part makes sense, but how do we know thats true. as we all know tool is known for spreading false information for what ever reason. so as it does kind of fit, im not sure if i can believe it.
|
Yeah, I don't neccesarily believe in this theory, I just like how it fits.

If anyone of you is interesting in Anathema and want to get some songs for free (upload), then put your email on the list:

Whoa now, anyone check out the Tool site? Newest update links to an advertising of electric drums that Blair says Danny uses extensively on the new record. You click on a button or two, and you get to look at it, read about it, while hearing a sample of someone (perhaps Danny?) playing it. It sounds really cool and I can't wait to hear what effects Danny will be using on the new album. If they're anything like what I just heard on the Tool site, then it could be something really cool (just as long as the electric drums aren't overkilled).
|
It says EXTENSIVELY (yes, in all caps) in Blair's update, so I hope the use of electronic drums and triggers don't overshadow his real kit work.
|
"(Spring 2005) Confirmed that the new Tool album may still be incomplete, so it will probably not be released until some time next year, 2006."
Not sure of the validity... Taken from: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0444665/bio |
lateralus is one of the best albums i heard. it brings 'heavy' to another new level, and the flow of thealbum is great
|
So, I was at the Orioles game tonight, and a little clip of an Elvis song comes on and I'm like, "Hey, I've heard that somewhere before". I realized its the little bit they play in the middle of Stinkfist in the OK show. So I came home and googled the lyrics "I'm caught in a trap...Because I love you too much baby", and low and behold, it is what they play in Stinkfist, its called Suspicious Minds. I found that rather interesting, and I haven't seen anyone post that, so I figured I'd share.

I like that. It's a good way of saying it. |
Ok, the name changing has got to stop. I have no idea who the hell is whom anymore.
|
I was a tad tired of trying to argue a point and just getting a post in response going, "Har har, atleast my name isnt Sliptallica LoLZ!!!1!uno!!1"
It isn't the big a deal anyways. I'll keep my user-title like that for awhile. |
 That justifies it, I guess, but I always liked your name. Beyond the fact that it was combining two bands I don't like, I thought it always fit you. I dunno, I'll get used to this, I guess. :)
EDIT: Oh, I feel like an idiot. I just saw your response to my same question in the community thread. :( |
Ok, the name changing has got to stop. I have no idea who the hell is whom anymore.
Im clearvision now. We swapped names I wonder if any dedicated Tool fan drummers (with wallets the size of my room) are getting hold of that drum technology and trying to second guess the sound of the album through using them? And the 'super fast' trigger thing sounds cool. Does it like, set off the trigger BEFORE you hit it? |
i'm watching apc live at pittsburgh, they are awsome .
y didnt they put the band version of 'the nurse who loved me' into any of their albums |

'Sup Rob? I don't post here much anymore, the world of tool has just gone so flat, news was building, then it all just collapsed. :( |

Acoustic/Electric hybrid kits are great. |
i didn't know you can change your name... i was sure it's forever.
so huber = ex-sliptallica the patient = ? |

Very true. |
the patient = ?
Err... ThePatient, or Jeff if that tickles your fancy. I just haven't come around much lately, so I guess that's why you didn't recognize me. |

I really like this type of thought process towards their music. Though, I think the phrase of "upward thinking" goes beyond the restrictions of simple Heaven and Hell.. Tool were always the first to criticise the persona known as Satan, and Satan being the mythical ring leader of Hell, I doubt they find heaven or Hell as a basis for their thinking.. Besides, I don't think Danny Carey would bother with Satan or his opposing God.. Rather it's inner upward thinking. Self-improving and reaching a higher level of humanity and consciousness...46+2.. It's really shown in their fondness in Alex Grey and titles of their songs. You can even look at the comic genius of Bill Kicks and see where their thinking and beliefs lay.. |
Tool were always the first to criticise the persona known as Satan...
That's awfully presumptuous of you to say that. I think pretty much all religious music in Western culture was condemning Satan many centuries before Tool or rock music in general was formed. People like this were the reason I held off on visiting the Tool thread. I consider Tool to be a very good band, and one that I enjoy listening to, but their fans seem to have this cult surrounding the band. They twist the cryptic lyrics into this massive bombardment of spirituality and higher meaning that it really takes all the fun out of the music for me. Music doesn't HAVE to be a path to enlightenment, you can still enjoy it on many other levels without complicating things. I realize that Tool is a very complicated band, and by over-explaining things I'm just digging myself deeper and deeper, so I'll try to stop. Phew. |

yeah, i like tool but i don't look at the lyrics soooo exactly/carefully. i listen to the lyrics, i read them and try to think about the meaning; but i don't overdo this.
the music is more important for me and there are bands whom lyrics i can identify more than with tool. |
Same here, least the waiting isnt as unberable now with lots of other good releases/great bands touring
Meh i listen to loads of pop-punk atm. Though ig ot tickets to alec empire ont he 13th of october :D, he better be good. |
I also agree with the aforementioned point about Tool being overwrought in terms of the meaning of everything they do. I think a lot of the songs are simpler than many here think. The lyrics are very good and meaningful to an extent, but they aren't brilliant.
