Guys, badmoon and I have an idea. We think that this htread should be changed to the classic rock/jam rock thread. We talk about jam enough here and it would be nice to keep it all on topic. Plus it is "rock" music. Classic rock and jam have ties, the dead and the allmans are a bit of both.

What's everyone's opinion?

Illmatic 01-17-2005 10:22 PM

Seriously?

EDIT: To led_zep_luvr. As for the issue rock not roll brought up, I can't see why not, even if I don't like jam bands.

BludgeonySteve 01-17-2005 10:24 PM

Indeed, it's not like the conversation would change.

Badmoon 01-17-2005 10:24 PM
All Christians? I'm just about 105% sure Bob Marley was Rastafarian, what were Garcia and Harrison all about. I think Harrison was pretty Christian wasn't he. I have no clue about Jerry Garcia though.
B. Marley - Chrisian/Rastafarian
J. Garcia - Christian
G. Harrison - Christian

Jerry actually strongly disliked John Lennon as a person because he interfiered with his belief. When Garcia was going to meet Lennon for the first time at the backstage of a Dead concert, Lennon approached him and kept calling Jerry "J.C.". Lennon also asked Bill Graham (Fillmore owner/Grateful Dead friend) to find him a large amp and guitar so he could walk on stage and play over Garcia's.
When you're agnostic or deist, you believe in God, but you don't agree with the teachings of major religions.
Hey that's sorta what I am I suppose, and I didn't even realize it. I like to believe there is a higher power of some sort, like a God, or guardian angels, or spirits (like Native Americans belive)...but I find it hard to believe all the stuff religions try to tell us.

Do you guys know of any Christian (or any other religion) classic rock bands? I remember I've heard one song from a Christian rock band on my local Classic Rock radio station, it wasn't a bad song, although it was a little cheesy (kinda 80's). I don't remember the name or the band though.

BludgeonySteve 01-17-2005 10:25 PM

Guys, enough of the religon talk. We need to focus on the issue at hand.

Badmoon 01-17-2005 10:27 PM

We all say yes, plus we are still on topic. We are talking about Classic Rock artists that are religious.

Illmatic 01-17-2005 10:27 PM

I don't like having a middleman around who takes my money, bullies me around, and tells me how to worship God (which, let's not kid ourselves, is all Christianity, and probably Islam and Judiasm, does). I think people should be free to worship God (or whatever higher power they believe in) any way they choose.

I personally can't think of any Christian classic rock bands offhand...I don't think any classic rock bands were religious because they wanted to be the exact opposite of the generation before them (who were for the most part deeply religious). Just a crackpot theory I came up with.

thickasabrick 01-17-2005 10:28 PM

Is someone complaining about our talk of jam bands? I haven't notice anyone telling us to keep on track in this thread. But if it's not a hassle for the mods to change the name of the thread, then why not..it's not gonna hurt anything. I think it's a decent idea, as long as Bonzo doesn't mind us changing his wonderful thread, as it is the only thing newer members know him by anyway.

We might as well just call it the "Classic Rock and Jam Band Community Thread". That way there's just about no way we can get off topic ;) (not totally serious of course)

BludgeonySteve 01-17-2005 10:29 PM
We all say yes, plus we are still on topic. We are talking about Classic Rock artists that are religious.
Oh fine. I;'m sure the other regulars would say yes.

Did Bob Dylan become a jew, your christian and then become a jew again? I'm confuzzeled.

Illmatic 01-17-2005 10:30 PM

Bob Dylan grew up Jewish, lost his faith somewhere along the line, and then became a born-again Christian, from what I can gather.

ANGUS YOUNG13 01-17-2005 10:30 PM

Yeah. Bonzo was kind of a rock n roll/ hard rock guy. But he did like jam too.

thickasabrick 01-17-2005 10:30 PM

when he was pissed off about being famous, he tried to make people hate him, so he went to another country (i'm sure someone here knows the name of the country) and got a picture of himself in a skullcap (is that the correct term?). It didn't really work out the way he wanted it to though, just got him more publicity.

BludgeonySteve 01-17-2005 10:31 PM
if u really want to expirence classic rock listen to a variety of old bands but listen to alot of led zeppelin best rock band ever
Yup, we all listen to a good deal of zeppelin. 'cept badmoon.

Illmatic 01-17-2005 10:32 PM
if u really want to expirence classic rock listen to a variety of old bands but listen to alot of led zeppelin best rock band ever

if u really want to expirence classic rock listen to a variety of old bands but listen to alot of led zeppelin best rock band ever
hahaha, is this some sort of joke? i suppose if he spelled led zeppelin right, then he's serious. to poster: have you seen how many posts are in this thread? obviously we all already deep into the world of classic rock and we have developed our own favourite bands, we don't need your advice on how to "experience classic rock". sorry if that sounded too mean. I'm assuming you are new...welcome to the Classic Rock thread.

and i believe Disconnection Notice is right about the Bob Dylan thing.

Illmatic 01-17-2005 10:35 PM

I prefer my two word answer the most for dealing with noobs. I sincerely think they do this to piss me off.

Hey That sounds a lot like what Ian Anderson talks about in the songs in Aqualung

Angus goes around in the threads saying dumb $hit all the time. He thinks he's some sort of genius when he's really just a dumb@ss

thickasabrick 01-17-2005 10:39 PM

i could have thought of a better two words to use, although one always gets censored for some reason. i try to take the nicer, more understanding approach to n00bs, since it wasn't too long ago i was one. luckily everyone in this thread was nice to me when i first arrived.

hey Angus Young13, what type of Classic rock do you prefer? The more bluesy stuff like Clapton, folky stuff like Neil Young, Jam stuff like the Allmans etc etc? or are you just plain hard rock (guessing from you're ac/dc type name)?

Illmatic 01-17-2005 10:39 PM

I'm 103% sure that ANGUS YOUNG13 likes only "noob classic rock" like Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Pink Floyd (and that's it).

thickasabrick 01-17-2005 10:41 PM
Hey That sounds a lot like what Ian Anderson talks about in the songs in Aqualung
ha, i suppose it did. I never thought of that. I think My God is my favourite song just because of his thoughts and concepts of organized religion. Very well thought out.

ANGUS YOUNG13 01-17-2005 10:43 PM

well i like all sorts of classic rock, tom petty, boston, kansas, and some classic metal, motley crue, acdc, black sabbath. DIO but not alot of people like thier work and also like r&b like led zepplin sorry for typing it wrong i was in a hurry but thanx for being understanding some people are just mean

BludgeonySteve 01-17-2005 10:45 PM

thumbs up for Tom Petty. He's not n00b classic rock.

thickasabrick 01-17-2005 10:45 PM

a boston fan eh. I'm a fan as well. Their debut album is definitely their best (best selling debut album of all time, before NSYNC came along). My favourite song is definitely Peace of Mind. I find their vocals are almost Beach Boyish the way they fit in three part harmonies, not to mention the harmonized guitar solos. What can I say, I'm a sucker for harmony (Simon and Garfunkel anyone?)

edit- it only took a couple Kansas songs to win me over, although I've only heard a few of their hit songs, nothing more than that. Carry On My Wayward Son is almost a masterpiece (using the term loosely)

Johnny B. Good 01-17-2005 10:45 PM

maybe you're the long lost son of Ian Anderson :D

Bartender 01-17-2005 10:46 PM
When you're agnostic or deist, you believe in God, but you don't agree with the teachings of major religions.
Not quite. If you're agnostic, you maintain that we can't know whether or not there is a god.

Anyway, do you guys actually want the title of the thread changed, or are you just going to start discussing jam rock without bothering with the change?

ANGUS YOUNG13 01-17-2005 10:47 PM

peace of mind is one of my favorite boston songs too very good guitar work great lyrics and as u said very harmonized Kansas has alot of that as well

but one of my all time favorite classic rock bands is BAD CO. juke box hero is a very good song

acdcrockr 01-17-2005 10:49 PM

Peace of Mind is their best song. As for Kansas,
carry on is an awesome song but Dust In the Wind rox :thumb:

Badmoon 01-17-2005 10:51 PM
juke box hero is a very good song
I believe that's Foreigner :)

ANGUS YOUNG13 01-17-2005 10:51 PM

yeh but there are more kansas songs than just the ones u hear on the radio but those songs are very good

thickasabrick 01-17-2005 10:51 PM

I don't think it's really necessary to change the thread title, since we are all already regulars here...but including the title Jam Band may attract some new good posters.

I think it's really up to the guys who have been posting here since the start, like Rock and Badmoon. Bonzo too if you find it necessary. I don't think I should have any real power in decision making around here. Especially for something as sacred as the Classic Rock thread. :p

ANGUS YOUNG13 01-17-2005 10:52 PM

o yeh my mistake forienger and they sing double vision as well

BludgeonySteve 01-17-2005 10:52 PM
what crap do u listen to
Calm down. Disconnection Notice likes those bands (I think). It's just that people who only listen to the main bands suck.

BillCosby 01-17-2005 10:53 PM

Who wants to be the one to push me over 1000 rep?

thickasabrick 01-17-2005 10:54 PM

can we set aside like two seconds to actually decide on this thread title changing idea? stop arguing about what defines a n00b and what doesn't. acdcrockr, please leave the thread for about ten minutes, the adults need to talk.

edit- Juke Box Hero is a great song. I love when he sings "that one guitar!" that song can basically speak to any amatuer musician. and Badmoon, you're newest avatar rocks.

BludgeonySteve 01-17-2005 10:55 PM
Who wants to be the one to push me over 1000 rep?
Foreignor is a very awesome band that never hear about. What's up with that?
