Anyone think Closure is one of their great songs? Seriously, I love that song. I think it's the best track on Damnation.

I have almost every Opeth album... I wonder why I don't post in here.
It's a great song with some really memorable licks and riffs, but I think people tend to overrate it. In My Time of Need is easily the best song on Damnation IMO. Ending Credits has also always been a favorite of mine.

Darkness 06-13-2006 09:33 PM

Hope Leaves for me. Very emotional song for me.

Nostalgia 06-13-2006 09:37 PM

To Rid The Disease is also great. Listening to it now

Thor 06-13-2006 09:38 PM

Hell, the entire album is pretty incredible. The only song that I think is weak is To Rid the Disease. After hearing every other song be incredibly impressive, it just can't compare.

Here's a chance to whore out my Damnation review :)

To Rid the Disease is great. I thought it was average, then I saw it live at SOTU... that style of song was so unheard of at that show, that it made me love the song. Great chorus + piano lines.

I've always loved To Rid The Disease... it's probably my favorite Opeth song... Mikael actually sings in it... like, he sings in other songs... but it's normally softer and more soothing, and like... cool, but in the chorus of that song he's so powerful... plus the keyboards own.
Most fun Opeth riffs to play: The Moor. Or maybe BWP.
The first Distorted riff is fun to play.Awsome song. I like the ohhh parts at almost the end of the song heh:p

TojesDolan 06-13-2006 10:23 PM

Incredibly for a progressive music fan right here, I think it drags on too much. The live version however, is one of my favorites and it's even longer. Go figure.

EDIT: Talking about closure.

Crysiss 06-14-2006 12:54 AM

The live version somewhat drags on, when they just **** around with the guitars while Mikael switches guitars, But the part with the octaves makes me eargasm.

eug008 06-14-2006 01:43 AM

Crysiss 06-14-2006 02:35 AM

friggin dave mustaine..

penelope weird hands 06-14-2006 03:52 AM

Off topic but.. I am finally beginning to enjoy Orchid!
Listened to it for the first time in ages and it clicked like never before.
There are still some parts I cringe at, songwriting wise.. but, the acoustic parts are the best Opeth have written, IMO, and more than make up for anything I dislike.

As for fave from Damnation I would say Closure, aswell.
Beautiful vocal harmonies followed by crazy riffs, then finishing with more harmonies before the awesome outro.
I always feel like i'm in a desert at that part.

Completely off topic now, but I got a new keyboard today. w00t!
I mention this only in hope that nobody else has felt the pain and tedium of having to cut and paste letters from notepad or webpages to create words/sentences...
Not fun. }:/

Carrionshine 06-14-2006 03:56 AM

In Mist She Was Standing at around 4:00 is one of my all time favorite Opeth parts.

Captain Quentin 06-14-2006 05:07 AM

my favourite opeth moment, at the moment is the riff in bleak when the clean vocals comes in, i can't stop listening to it and im fairly new to opeth

penelope weird hands 06-14-2006 05:30 AM

Yeah, Bleak ceases to amaze.
First Opeth I ever heard, so it holds a special something in my memory.

What albums have you heard so far, Captain Q?

Stoo 06-14-2006 06:09 AM

Me too ^ :p

penelope weird hands 06-14-2006 06:28 AM

^Heh, nice.

A friend had it playing on an MP3 player outside when I was hungover and I went over and mumbled "what is this!?" in a complete state of

He doesn't even listen to metal.. dunno why he even had it..! But, because of that I am lucky I even know Opeth by now.

He should be compensated by the Gods, as far as me and my Opeth fanboyism are concerned. ;)

Father 06-14-2006 06:30 AM

Hehe .. Bleak was my first one too... And one of my all time favorites

Thor 06-14-2006 08:26 AM

I think Bleak is the song that everyone hears to get into the band. Lots of people have been mentioning it, and it was also the song that got me into them.

I listened to it just about every day and always get a kick out of it. So amazing.

Txus 06-14-2006 08:59 AM

Deliverance was the song that got me into Opeth and it's still one of my all time Favorite tunes.

Nostalgia 06-14-2006 09:09 AM

Deliverance anf Morningrise are the only albums I don't have. Am I missing out?

Det_Nosnip 06-14-2006 09:10 AM
The live version somewhat drags on, when they just **** around with the guitars while Mikael switches guitars, But the part with the octaves makes me eargasm.
Huh? Are you talking about the part when Martin takes a solo? Typical guitarplayer description.

Stormrider 06-14-2006 09:11 AM

Still Life and Morningrise are the only albums I do have :(

I've been listengin to more Opeth lately though.

Txus 06-14-2006 09:14 AM
Deliverance anf Morningrise are the only albums I don't have. Am I missing out?
Hell fucking yeah.
Deliverance anf Morningrise are the only albums I don't have. Am I missing out?
Being that they are both Opeth albums, yes - you are missing out. :p

Thor 06-14-2006 09:31 AM
Still Life and Morningrise are the only albums I do have :(

It's imperative that you get more. Like seriously, you've been missing out.

Stormrider 06-14-2006 09:33 AM
It's imperative that you get more. Like seriously, you've been missing out.
Yeah, I know. I do know a bunch of songs from the other albums though.

NP Falkenbach - Heralder

Thor 06-14-2006 09:35 AM
Yeah, I know. I do know a bunch of songs from the other albums though.

NP Falkenbach - Heralder
Well it's imperative that you get Blackwater Park, Deliverance, and Damnation. The rest of the albums are still quite good, but they aren't essential to your collection unless you're really into the band.

Stormrider 06-14-2006 09:38 AM

Yeah. But right now, I'll be honest, I'm not really on the hunt of Opeth albums...But eventually.

penelope weird hands 06-14-2006 09:57 AM

^As long as you have My Arms, Your Hearse, Still Life and Blackwater Park you should be alright.
But, on some Pokemon related tangent, GET THEM ALL!!! :p
