Wow, this thread is out of control, and not because people are post-whoring, but because so many new people are becoming regulars. Thats a pretty good sign.
But god, last time I remembered I was a part of the conversation was 20 pages ago (you post whores ;)) so I'm just going to randomly start off.
Anyways, lots of old topics are being brought back to life with the influx of new posters, so thats gonna make this pretty dead for a while (for me) with the "best CD," "best cover" etc.
To amuse myself, I'm gonna bring up a human interest topic that deals with opinions, instead of the "best/worst" kind.
How many people can really say Lars is a bad guy? Honestly, if someone were to ask me, I'd say hes up there (points high) in the top 10 most brutually honest people (something IMO should be encouraged, not condemed) and usually provides good explanations/justifications for things. Why he is hated so badly I do not understand. There was a point where people were wetting themselves at the thought of getting him replaced.
Lars is the reason Metallica exists, and survived.
Not many people know it, but Lars is the train behind the monster Metallica that keeps pushing it forward, while not bitching about it like some tedious chore. People do not appreciate him because he is not a narcisst freak always talking about himself and his accomplishments. His badass image is all the people can see of him because of how he will not let the camera's pry into him.
People need to see things clearer...

I agree with metal militia. One day we have this discussion that Im involved in, and next day I come and it's 20 pages back. That kinda sucks. You just forget about it and start something else. I guess thats the only thing to do.

I actually like lars and his drumming fits metallica perfectly imo. Plus his little mind discussions on SKOM were pretty lame. "Lately I've been saying word fock too much, I dont know why, fock, fock, fock, fock, see?" lol. It was something like that. Although I did laugh, it wasn't that important imo.

Lars is a good performer. Good person, but don't think he sees how he acts.

I agree that Lars is really a good person. I think that he does act a little "rich" at times, but meh, I prolly would too. I can't say I agree with the whole Napster thing, but I do see where he is coming from, and don't blame him. I think he is the perfect drummer for Metallica, performance wise, and as a person

he is such a dick. My mate has SKOM on DVD. Kirk has his 40th birthday and everyone is in good spirit, then Lars is saying all this **** and he is NOT joking, all seriousness, no one is laughing, (not even him) and he dampens the whole birthday for kirk. "why don't people do this for me?"
James leaving the band for a year or so was becuase of Lars too. he is such an arogant little **** whit. Hate him so much. As a person.
He is a good "Producer?" you know what i mean, arranger and has a good ear for music definatly, but he is a **** sucker...
Hes not goina get his gold plated shark tank for another two months!! haha....

No one is perfect man. If Lars was a good producer/good schemer (his skill at getting gigs/name) and a good guy in general, wouldn't he just take over the world instead of being a drummer?
We all have our flaws, and like I said, Lars is brutally honest. I love it when people do that because you can tell that they are not fake at all. They tell you the problem upfront in a very in your face way, because in the end, no matter how much you mask and pretty up the truth, its the same thing. They are not scared to follow their principles and ethics, or to NOT conform to society.

HE IS HIMSELF, 100%! More than I can say for most people (and sadly myself)
If he loves money, he doesn't need someone to analyze his character. He'll yell it in your ear. If he has a change of principles or ethics (videos), he'll say it loud and clear that he has changed his ways. If he thinks that people over-analyze their songs way too much (One, Enter Sandman), then he'll say it in an interview and laugh about it.

Obviously, since this is "condemed" by society, most people will think hes a dick for it.
Just because I admire his truthfullness and his integrity doesn't mean I agree with him, or that I think his princples/ethics to begin with are wrong. Thats a different topic. My point is that hes a man enough to stick to them, rich or poor, thick or thin.

Only if everyone keeps talking about "best/worst/top5/bottom5/most interesting/most meaningful songs." There is WAY more to talk about Metallica than just their song lists.

Lars is the reason it all started. So, hating him is a bit rude. He might be a wanker but who cares unless he writes good music???

And so many people said that Lars is a bad drummer. He might be one (I don't know, I play geeeeetar) but people have to realise that compared to other drummers he's also a very good composer. And he's been fronting the band since day one.
