I'm not saying it does. I'm rather pissed they had dropped out of supporting Sonata Arctica when I saw them...seeing Into Eternity live would have been awesome. Instead, we got the East Coast's only Queensryche tribute band. *shudder*
Talk about weak. I hope you booed them off the stage.

Shattered_Future 06-13-2006 06:31 PM

In all honesty, they didn't actually do that bad of a job. The lead singer was annoying as hell with his constant high pitched screaming, but the rest of the band was quite good. And the blind keyboardist tore it up.

Whoa? Queensrhyche had Steve Wonder?! Awesome! :thumb:

We should probably start talking about Opeth again soon.

Sorry, that's honestly too funny though.

Shattered_Future 06-13-2006 06:32 PM

Probably.

In all honesty, The Grand Conjuration is immensely fun to play on guitar. It's simple as hell, yet it kicks ***. Kinda like the opening riff to Master's Apprentices...

I remember my friend told me who would be supporting, and I just sat there a minute, staring at the wall...then uttered a large string of curses.

Yeah, that must have been the dissapointment of the century for you guys.

And yeah, I also know how to play a few of the riffs from The Grand Conjuration and yes, it's incredibly fun. :thumb:

Toaster 06-13-2006 06:41 PM

Most fun Opeth riffs to play: The Moor. Or maybe BWP.

My personal favorites include:
1. the breakdown riff in The Leper Affinity
2. the main riff in Master's Apprentices
3. the end to Deliverance (who cares if it's one note?)
4. the opening riff and chorus riff in The Grand Conjuration
5. the riffs in Bleak when Steven Wilson sings

Those are all so awesome.

Toaster 06-13-2006 06:51 PM

The first few riffs in Master's Apprentices are really fun too. The one that goes "Dah dah dudu duh t- duh du dah duh du duh dah dah dudu duuuuh duh dah du du dah duh duh" is my fave.

Points if you can figure out at what point that riff comes in.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's the main riff. Am I right?

That's the one that's at about one minute in, right?

Toaster 06-13-2006 07:00 PM

0 for 2!

Darkness 06-13-2006 07:00 PM

The one at like, three minutes then?

Toaster 06-13-2006 07:02 PM

2:23. Disappointing. :p

That's actually my favorite riff in the entire song. It's so heavy and incredibly awesome when blasted in your car on a highway. I did that today. :)

Master's Apprentices on the DVD = ownage

Darkness 06-13-2006 07:04 PM

Well I wasn't going to skim through the song... so I just played it, then I forgot about it, then checked and it was at three minutes... ah forget it. :p

Nostalgia 06-13-2006 07:11 PM

God, the clean vocals at the end of The Funeral Portrait are amazing.

It's my favourite as well. Honourable mention for best riff: the riff at 1:47 in BWP. Is it coincidence that in both these riffs, Mikael goes "urh"? :p

(I love it when Mikael goes "urh".)

Darkness 06-13-2006 07:13 PM

The BWP slays it IMO, I find it even eviler (is that a word?).

Yeah whenever the infamous "urh" is unleashed you know you're going to have a headbanging riff following soon thereafter. :)

Toaster 06-13-2006 07:17 PM

Wreath comes to mind.

/strains brain to think of urh riffs

Darkness 06-13-2006 07:18 PM

Some of the biographies on the site were updated, I thought this was interesting:

(Mikaels) Favourite Opeth tracks: Ghost of perdition, Hours of wealth, The night & the silent water (live), Harvest
Least favourite Opeth track: By the pain I see in others

He doesn't mind The Night & The Silent Water now I guess...

Also note that 10,000 Days is on his playlist. :)

Jude 06-13-2006 07:23 PM

Those are some weird favorites, esp. TNATSW. Face of Melinda was his old favorite, though I suppose this means current ones.

Darkness 06-13-2006 07:31 PM

It's still my favorite. :)

Wow, 15 000th post is mine. :D

Nostalgia 06-13-2006 07:37 PM

15,000 posts in this thread, yay.

Either that, or the first riff where Mikael comes in on The Moor.

Though thats more of an "urhBWAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!" effect.

And you are just like them all
Stained by the names of fathers
I'm greeting my downward fall
Leaving the throes to others.

Haha, great song.

I'm listening to some of My Arms Your Hearse now. I haven't listened to a lot of this album, but so far, I like it. :)

Orchid is still one of my favorite albums of all time.

I actually listened to Orchid recently, and just didn't get as much of a thrill out of it as I used to. Their songwriting ability just wasn't nearly as refined as it is now. I'm much more likely to pop in Blackwater Park or Deliverance.

But the opening harmonized riffs in In The Mist She Was Standing = sex.

Nostalgia 06-13-2006 09:30 PM

Anyone think Closure is one of their great songs? Seriously, I love that song. I think it's the best track on Damnation.

I have almost every Opeth album... I wonder why I don't post in here.
