The Best Bitter, but they were all really good.
Excellent. Good taste. The Best Bitter is my favorite too, and the only one that I can drink in larger quantities. The porter and the stout kill me after one.

Efrim 05-06-2009 06:53 PM

Yeah, same, but maybe more than one. I drank them while I ate barbecued lamb and beef (on separate occasions).

Bastard. That sounds delicious.

Then again, Maude and I ate really well for the entire duration of our trip, so I can't complain. Had a lovely veal dinner at the hotel. Didn't realize that Quebecers were so big on their veal.

Efrim 05-06-2009 07:02 PM

Because their beef sucks, so they make up for it by eating the babies.
I bought a blade steak for 4 dollars yesterday. It was big enough to last me for three meals, and tasted better than any of the sirloins I bought in Montreal.
Too bad its the opposite for lamb here.

Ah, that would explain it, then. Thankfully even the French can't screw up chicken. No one can screw up chicken. :/

Lamb is delicious, though. Also: still craving more pickles.

BenJammin 05-06-2009 07:36 PM

Also, if anyone cares, I found out that not only am I graduating with my honours degree in English Language and Literature, but that I am graduating with distinction (from what I understand, it's like honours ++, based on having a high GPA in the courses related to my program).

Mr. Pickle 05-06-2009 08:12 PM

I just bought a Free Speech pedal. lawl

Spaceman Spiff 05-06-2009 08:26 PM

Due to some Sri Lankan holiday, I don't have work this Friday.

Also, Victoria Day is a week from Monday, so that's another day off.

Who wants to do a looping comp?
Who wants to do a looping comp?
Who loops, anyway?
Who loops, anyway?
Losers. So you're in?

BenJammin 05-06-2009 09:24 PM
Losers. So you're in?
Depends. Does it have to be with bass only? Or at all?

Spaceman Spiff 05-06-2009 09:35 PM

Fuck bass only. Anything goes is the only way to do it. With a theme, obivously, but any instruments you play should be allowed. Make it only bass if you choose, but don't limit anyone to just bass if they want to do more.

EADGCF 05-06-2009 09:35 PM

I'm thinking:

- Any type of sound goes
- At least one instrument played by you
- No pre-made loops
- Sequencing of anything you wrote is ok
- Any and all effects ok
- You can use a looper or you can multi-track it

BenJammin 05-06-2009 09:37 PM

I'm totally down for that, then.

Spaceman Spiff 05-06-2009 09:48 PM

Goddamn it. I wish I could record at home. :upset:

I'd so get in on this. I just don't have a good computer. Maybe in a couple of months, if you guys want to start doing comps again, I'd get involved. I just need to wait until I have the money for a good computer and basic recording gear so that I can record at home.

Neither do I.

EADGCF 05-06-2009 09:52 PM

And yeah, I encourage people to experiment with as many kinds of sounds as they want. I don't really encourage anyone to do just bass (yawn...) but of course you can.

I don't really see the need for an additional theme either, personally.

My computer is just effed.

It can't play music off the HD without skipping like a scratched CD. It can't play streaming audio or video unless it's completely loaded, or else it just skips and stutters.

I doubt it could properly run a recording program.

Well, I meant that looping would be the theme here. Whatever the general idea for the comp is is all that needs to be specified, the instruments that you use should be up to you. Although you should actually have to play an instrument and record it. Pretty much the only rule I can come up with.

You could always actually record the audio elsewhere, then it's just a matter of pushing buttons. Working with the samples, cutting and pasting, mixing.

What's wrong with it?

Tried scanning it, defragging, reformatting, etc?

Yeah, sure. I think the rule list I posted pretty much covers it.

Yeah, tried all that, it's just old and busted like a granny that fell down in the shower. It's not good for anything anymore... except posting here. It can pretty much run Firefox and MSN, that's about it.

EADGCF 05-06-2009 10:10 PM

Audition takes up about as much system resource as MSN, and definitely less than both MSN and Firefox. Tried Audacity or some other similar freeware?

Spaceman Spiff 05-06-2009 10:11 PM
Yeah, sure. I think the rule list I posted pretty much covers it.
Yeah, I've had a few beers and I'm not really paying attention to every post... if you know what I mean.

But your rules are good. Should remain for every comp, with minor alterations depending on the competition.

Sablate McNuff 05-06-2009 10:11 PM

I hate viruses on my computer. Don't even know how I get them as I virus scan everything before I download it. Must be spy/malware from link re-directs that people have unnecessarily hidden on their pages.

Either that, or my sister used my computer and figured that I need Windows XP Antivirus 2009. **smacks forehead** One of the most annoying viruses to get rid of because it's hidden in your registry.

Not on this computer, no. Maybe I should.

Perhaps I'll give it a shot and see what happens. If I can't get it going on this computer, I should have a new one fairly soon so that I can record at home.

EADGCF 05-06-2009 10:15 PM

So Joe is in, of course, with his new found interest in audio looping.

Sablate McNuff 05-06-2009 10:21 PM

I love audio looping!

Why?
Who wants to do a looping comp?
That's why.

Epidemechanical 05-06-2009 10:24 PM

wait wtf a comp whats going on here

EADGCF 05-06-2009 10:25 PM

See above!

I'm doing some guitar looping in front of my class tomorrow. Coincidence?

Epidemechanical 05-06-2009 10:26 PM

what is a looping comp judged by

who can make their entry sound most repetitive?

Sablate McNuff 05-06-2009 10:29 PM

I might be able to do that. Got some ideas going on. Any limit on loop length? I mean, I could argue that my 3 minute song is a 1-minute loop repeated 3 times.

Sablate McNuff 05-06-2009 10:46 PM

btw, somebody try this for me:

type in "Ernie Ball Music Man" into google.

third link down should be the home page www.music-man.com/

instead, when I mouse-over the link, I get this:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=3&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.music-man.com%2F&ei=AWcCSpnEG47oMP6O8JMG&rct=j&q=ernie+bass+music+man&usg=AFQjCNG2uKAz7VC9i_A36uR_coUpTS3Llw

is this happening for anybody else? It's really starting to piss me off.

No length limit but trust me, it works in your favour to make it on the shorter side.
what is a looping comp judged by

Probably whatever entry is the least terrible.

fatbandit 05-07-2009 09:46 AM

Someone should hook me up with a link for some good free (I don't mean freeware) recording software, and suggest a good interface for me to buy. I don't like using those 1/4 to 1/8 adapters, because they end up working the jack socket loose.

BenJammin 05-07-2009 10:05 AM

Can't help you much on the software front because I use GarageBand, but I've got an M-Audio MobilePre that works decently, and it's not particularly expensive. Agreed on not using converters... I need to get a cable with 1/4 on one end, and 1/8 on the other, so I can run my laptop through my amp.

Sablate McNuff 05-07-2009 10:05 AM

I have an m-audio fast track pro and I love it. It was relatively cheap and they pop up used on CL for about $100 all the time.

As far as recording, I love my Adobe Audition. If you don't use midi, it's very simple to learn and very functional all-around. isohunt.com + μtorrent program will help you find it for free.
