I like SOAD...I like them alot.
My favorite album would have to be there self titled, then toxicity.
And yes I actually am a fan of mezmerize...and hypnotize is growing on me.Attack is a wicked song.
Yes without a doubt soad is probally one of my favorite current bands.

mbrinton138 01-10-2006 04:23 PM

One thing that was said at the first post:

Victems of a Down was a poem that Daron wrote....I dont THINK it was ever used as a band name.

But yes, System of a Down is amaizng. Daron is by far my guitar idol. Proud to say I play a Ibanez iceman model :)

mbrinton138 01-10-2006 04:26 PM
I don't know if this has been posted before, but i found a sweet SOAD concert on google video, 42 mins long. Im only at 8 minutes and so far theyve only played stuff from their first album. Good waych anyway.
If that is up to date, I would LOVE to have that link. other than that, I have their BDO concerts downloaded...on the 05 show I dont have that much, but I would love to hear them do their old stuff now. Expecially P.L.U.C.K. or Sugar.

MrJack 01-10-2006 04:28 PM

Im pretty sure he's talking about the show at Whisky. Easily one of their best old shows ever. I watched it on google a few weeks ago...let me find the link....

Edit- That was fast. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5298788966424691415&q=live+at+whisky

mbrinton138 01-10-2006 05:23 PM

thanks, this will be great

DWJK 01-10-2006 06:36 PM

I personally liked Mez better than Hypnotize.

The way I see it..

Mez
Violent P0rn
Old School/Lost In Hollywood
Sad Statue
Cigaro
B.Y.O.B
Revenga
Radio/Video

Hyp
Stealing Society
Vicinity of Obscenity
Lonely Day (Awesome song, shoulda bee longer though!)
Tenative
Attack

In my honest opinion, Mez just has more GOOD songs.

A-S-S-H-A-T 01-10-2006 06:57 PM

true, but in my opinion their older stuff, destroys all the newer stuff.... but bands change over time (e.g. metallica)

Blank 01-10-2006 07:39 PM

Tenative is probally one of hyps better songs.I loved it.
But sill,I hope Daron decides to stick to backup.I feel bad for Serj.

mbrinton138 01-10-2006 07:49 PM

Serj wanted Daron to sing. I was reading something and Serj felt that since Daron wrote most of the material (from Toxicity - Hypnotize) he should get to sing it. Daron is an amaizng singer, too. Daron also said something about it being hard for someone to get the same emotion while singing your songs if its about your life.

Blank 01-10-2006 07:52 PM

Well I guess that makes sence.
And there letting Serj play keyboard alot more so I guess he doesn't felt left out.
But he did write Vicinity of Obscenity which has the best chorus ever

Ya, thats the one. i completely forgot to post the link and didnt realize until now. Sorry

mbrinton138 01-10-2006 08:52 PM

I love Stealing Society, Dreaming, and Soilder Side. Serj and Daron Harmonize very well on Soilder Side.

Blank 01-10-2006 08:55 PM

I love how Serj plays keyboard in about every song now.
And yes the singing was excelent in soilder side.
But I like soilder side intro to....THIS close to being an insturmental.

mbrinton138 01-10-2006 09:00 PM

the little bonus thing at the end of aerials is instramental...and its...good...?

Blank 01-10-2006 09:05 PM

Yeahhhh it's good.
I want John to have a drum solo in a song. That'd be pretty cool....but I can't really see them doing that.
Ah man...I can't stop listening to Tentative.
That female chorus thing is awesome.

mbrinton138 01-10-2006 09:33 PM

Every second of playing that System does is a drum solo for John, the drumming is crazy-cool

Moses 01-10-2006 09:41 PM

I liked Hypnotize but it's more of a "face value" type record than Mesmerize. I'd say I like both equally and Hypnotize still brings back the old overinventive SOAD that we all love.

Blank 01-10-2006 09:55 PM

Yeah.
Attack sounds like old school soad somewhat.
I like the bass lines through the whole hypnotize cd.
And the guitar in tentative.
And the drumming in the intro to attack... :naughty:

Are you sure Daron is an amazing singer? Everyone who i talk to think that Daron shouldn't be singing. They all think that he can't sing for ****. Most people wreckon that letting daron sing is holding SOAD from being better than what they already are. If Daron focused on just playing guitar i think that they would be a much better band.

YearsOfOppression 01-11-2006 04:38 AM

But it's so whiny.

YearsOfOppression 01-11-2006 04:45 AM

OK maybe it suits the band but it is very annoying. Do you think that if it was just Serj singing and Daron focused more on guitar that they would be better? Daron should probably only do backup vocals like he did on ST and Toxicity.

YearsOfOppression 01-11-2006 04:50 AM

Yeh i guess so.

Spiritofmosa 01-11-2006 05:23 AM

i gotta pick up toxcity one day

Spiritofmosa 01-11-2006 06:56 AM

i am watching their vid at rock ring 2002.. daaron makes me laugh

Blank 01-11-2006 01:18 PM

Needles is an awesome songs.

But peephole pwns it :smash:

Mambuto_O'Mally 01-11-2006 01:34 PM
No, Serj can get annoying on his own after a while. Daron isn't really very good on guitar anyway, so I don't think it would make much of a difference, at least it gives them a fuller band sound.
Thats because on Toxicity, he really only used the one voice, unlike on the s/t when he had many cool voices.

Blank 01-11-2006 01:40 PM

I much prefer Daron in the background doing metal screams :chug:

Kyle 01-11-2006 02:03 PM

I prefer Serj's metal screams on the self titled. But I love how their voices harmonise on some songs, On Lost in Hollywood it works amazingly.

Blank 01-11-2006 02:53 PM

Yeah that is pretty cool.
They sound great in soilder side to :chug:

MrJack 01-11-2006 03:33 PM

Daron just needs to stop. A perfect example of when and how he should sing is STA. You can hear him, but he doesn't(and shouldn't) overshadow Serj.

He cannot hold a song on his own. Sure, you want to do a ballad every CD, fine. But otherwise, STFU. This is exactly the reason why I can only tolerate 5/12 songs on Hypnotize. Ah well.

Moses 01-11-2006 03:37 PM

^^^Exactly how I feel.

PepsiMetal 01-11-2006 03:59 PM

Yea his voice is too similar to green day, simple plan, good charlotte, etc. Heck, the guy from good charlotte has better voice than daron. Daron has that "singing through the nose" voice. :(

mbrinton138 01-11-2006 04:12 PM

I dissagree, Daron is really talented. Besides which, he has been writing all the songs you people love and you seem to be hating him for wanted to display the acual emotion he put into them. Sure, we'd all like more Serj, but there isnt a song where Serj doesnt sing, too.

PepsiMetal 01-11-2006 04:19 PM

Nobody said he isn't talented. He writes some great lyrics and guitar riffs, but his vocals just aren't suited for soad. Especially when there is a guy like serj who didn't sing as much even though it would make songs sound alot better.

mbrinton138 01-11-2006 04:24 PM

your slowly hurting Darons feels, you know...

(Daron IS in system, he IS singing, he IS suited for them.)

MrJack 01-11-2006 05:00 PM

I do agree, he is talented. But just because you write the lyrics, doesn't mean they sound best when they are coming from you. "Back in the day", Daron was known as the guy with the wierd on stage antics, and the guy that did most of the talking inbetween songs that got everyone hyped.

Fast forward to before the Mezmorize release. People start asking him about the lyrics, and in seemingly every interview, he makes it clear that he has wrote most of SOAD material. Okay, people now know he writes and does all that other stuff I mention. Now whats the reason for forcing Serj to change his tone just to accomodate Daron, which overall sounds rather bad compared to the older songs when he was "background"? Streamline is a good song that demonstrates what im talking about.

Mambuto_O'Mally 01-11-2006 05:00 PM

You know there is a point where obsession messes people's reality up(mbrinton138). I think this guy has passed that point. I mean they have some amazing songs with Daron singing but he shouldn't sing on every song. I can see about a 1/4 or 1/3 but more that is too much.

Blank 01-11-2006 05:08 PM

Wooo. The song that made me want more Serj is lonely day.
Daron makes it sound so pop emo :amaze:

mbrinton138 01-11-2006 11:14 PM

Ahhh, if there is anysong that only Daron should sing, its Lonely Day. That one seems really personal. System of a Down is a band that likes to evolve...this form of evolution involves Daron on vocals...The next album will probubly be back to "normal".

And just cause Daron is my biggest inspiration doesnt mean I am obsessed. Hes showing that the guitar player can be more involved in the band than just sticking to the guitar. Yay Daron.

Blank 01-11-2006 11:19 PM

But Serj is the singer.
There have been countless bands were the drummer/bassist/guitarist wrote songs and didn't sing them.If I recall soads lineup is
Serj Tankian-Vocals
Daron Malakian-Guitar
Shavo Odadjian-Bass
John Dolmayan-Drums
And it should stay that way :smash:
