Y'know, this album did what ACLOTM did. It grew on me. I loved the first 4 tracks from day one but the rest have really really grown on me. This album is up there with Make Yourself and ACLOTM. I still could have done without Paper Shoes though.
i love paper shoes. i like how when he sings "and hen like a locomotive" the drumming sounds like a train especially. |
Does the new album have a similar sound to ACLOTM?
Well, it's closer to ACLOTM than anything else. |
Does the new album have a similar sound to ACLOTM?
you know..after thinking about it. this album is like a mix of Morning View and ACLOTM. Here's why: Morning View. alot of acoustic/chill/laid back songs with a few that rock + ACLOTM. alot of raw guitar/bens bass sound/brandons full range of voice/and well thought out guitar solos. = Light Grenades |
Doesn't sound too thrilling to me then, I might check it out eventually.
|
I'm really liking Quicksand, although I wish it was a bit longer.
|

Agreed. Brilliant way to start an album. Really atmospheric. I'm thinking that LG is something of a synthesis between the somewhat adventurous composition and music of SCIENCE and the much more relaxed, slicker, smoother vibe of MV. |
None of their albums really has a specific feel to it, although each song throughout their career has fit one way or the other with the album if you know what I mean. This album feels the most disjointed out of anything they've done.
|
I am really liking the new album. Love the song Love Hurts, can't stop listening to it. I am very pleased that they are coming to scotland, I'm going!:) What are Incubus gig's like?
|
It's a bit of a disappointment to me. I'm hoping it'll grow.

They put on a good show. Edit: They definitely mastered the shit out of this thing. |
I am so clueless. What does that even mean?
|
Mastering?
|
Yeah...
:upset: |
It's basically the final run through the EQ before they send it off to the presses. But it sounds like they went a bit nuts. It's a loud album and it peaks (at least my copy) much like RHCP's Califonication.
|
Ah gotcha.
Thanks. |
this is quite most frustrating thing i have expierienced ever. im not gonna lie. i love incubus like no other band ever. i dont even know how i heard of them but i instantly loved them. i love all their musicians, einzhiger is hands down my favorite guitarist, i love his style. im not a fan boy, i love plenty of other bands but they are my favorite. when they lost dirk i was terrified, i thought they were going to go down hill. proved wrong in ACLOTM. so ive been waiting for this album, SIX months or so for this. excited like a person whos about to get their next crack fix, just like rediculously ecstatic.
AND...now i get it and i feel horrible, not myself. but i just ask myself what happened? what happened to my favorite band ever? im not saying the new CD sucks, it might grow on me but i doubt it. ive listened to it a few times through and im just horribly frustrated because i knwo that they are sooo much better than this...i dont know how to explain it, the record just sounds so...unenthusiastic, if that makes any sense. does anyone see what i mean? |
at first listen i was like that between the "Earth to Bella" songs. but it passed after a few listens. the songs i thought werent that great are good now. i like the whole cd. it defiantly gets better everytime i hear it.
the whole album is different cause its mostly about love. which is a topic not often touched apon in previous albums. and you cant have funky hardcore songs about love. well you can but...you know what i mean. plus they are getting older, more mature. --about the mastering. im glad they did. incubus has a great rhythem section and i love Jose's drums in "A Kiss to Send Us Off". its not a difficult beat but its still pretty badass. maybe next album they should get god ole Rick Rubin to produce...or Scott Litt |
Yeah, as much as I like the stuff Brendan O'Brien has done with Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, they do need to find a new producer I think for the next album. Maybe just let Mike do it since he's been producing between albums.
|
i hope it will grow, because im not really feeling it right now.
|
i hope it will grow, because im not really feeling it right now.
Exactly what I'm feeling right now man.
|
it'll grow on you, trust me...
my friend and i were talkin about this the other night...about the whole Ben Vs. Dirk thing and we came to this conclusion Ben is better live Dirk is better on albums i think Ben is afraid to come up with something new other then just providing rhythem because he's stepping into a band that already has a distinct sound. he should just chill and lay down some sh!t. you can see his potential on his solo albums. |
I liked about half the album right off the bat,the others im sure will grow, its very
very ACLOTM ish but thats ok, i guess everyone just wants them to sound like the old SCIENCE days but that will never happen,on another note i think thats the first time ive heard Mike Einziger finger pick on Pendulous threads! |
Mike Einziger is so underrated.
I totally agree with you Mr. Rhoades. Since listening to Incubus over two years ago I can say that Mikes playing has definately influenced mine. I think it's the combination of massive guitar sounds and the 5-string bass that I love. |

Another unbeliever, hey? Fvck you. :D How many songs did Dirk actually play below the E? I can't think of anything off the top of my head... I'm just asking since I get the impression he only played a fiver for the slap advantages, not necessarily for extended range. |
theres a couple he played below E...but its nothing you cant play with a 4 string. only parts of "new skin", "clean", and "glass" is there a part where you actually need it to sound like the song. on "glass" cause its cool to have that lil slide in there.
|
I tried to buy tickets for the Incubus concert like, ten minutes after they were on sale and it was sold out.
I hate life  |
I have to try to get some tomorrow morning.
|
Ah yeah the one in Boston?
I might try and get tickets for that one... Get them ASAP. |
This CD aint half bad. oh and Einzinger,The Office rules! :chug:
|
Hmm,m I've been listening to the album the past 4 days and I would throw it to the trash if it wasn't for Mike's fantastic work....the rest of the band is bland as hell :(
|
Well, the thing is, that'd be stupid to do in either case. IMO, one should listen to the finished product, not the individual contribution of each member, aye?
Also, today at work I took a look at the cover booklet, and I realised I would kill (or at least seriously maim) to own even one of the vintage keyboards Chris plays... Hammond B3, Rhodes, Moog Voyager, Mellotron... zomw, Rhodes. |
I was expecting another Make Yourself :(
That's why I don't like it that much.....I guess it's not THAT bad. |
It's okay, though not their best. Here's where I think it ranks:
Make Yourself>Morning View>ACLOTM>SCIENCE>LG>Fungus Amongus |
I'm listening to the album through proper headphones for the first time. One thing I love is how the album is obviously well-produced (with all the little panning tricks and stuff one would expect from Mike et al), yet it retains a very raw feel. Awesomeness inc.
|
yeah its pretty bad that you need good headphones to hear Kilmore though. he shines when the play live though. you can also hear alot more of Ben
|
tickets for the show near me (electric factory) sold out so damn fast i seriously dont even know whats going on. and now im sad because they arre raping people on ebay at areound 120 a ticket.
|
For the show I want to go to, some of them are 300+ a ticket.
|
I officially love this album. Stand out tracks: Pendulous Threads, AKTSUO, Anna Molly, Dig, Love Hurts, Diamonds and Coal, Quicksand.

thats pretty much the whole album minus the Earth to bellas hahaha. what do you guys think of "punch drunk" and "look alive"?? i think they should've kept them onthe album even though they wouldnt really fit to the theme. |
