Yeh if i could record my drums :(.

superpeer 07-11-2005 02:45 PM
So, do we have a guitarist, a vocalist, and a bassist in here? It'd be fun to do a cover for the Thread Competition.
Don't forget a second guitarist, a DJ, two custom percussionists and a sample/media man. :p

Sleeper 07-11-2005 02:48 PM

Yeh, This is never gonna happen. Unless we do acoustic songs, Or songs with standard instrumentals.

Mr Herb 07-11-2005 03:17 PM

You got your bassist here! Am doing a few knot songs with the band

Down'd Angel 07-11-2005 03:29 PM

Im just asking, wheres clown cause i watch them play Before I forget on conan and clown wasnt there, corey said something about where he is before the song, but i couldnt work it out.
Is it something with his wife or what?

i think there is some family matters that he has to pertain to...

wasnt that performance on conan from a few months ago?
I wouldn't go so far as to say he is great, but he does lay down some cool riffs and occasionally plays a pretty entertaining solo.
Kerry King, Zakk Wylde, and James Murphy have all said Mick was a "great" guitar player. There's probably more metal musicians who have given him praise, but thats all I know of.

TheSubtleArts 07-13-2005 03:09 PM

Mick originally had guitar solos written in early songs like (SiC) but they were later taken out. he is a better guitar player than most people think.

Mick wasn't in the band during the writing or recording preocess of Slipknot's s/t. They had another guitarist(forgot his name), who left the band soon after they finished recording.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it was Jim who wasn't there during the recording. It's been a long time since I've read up on that stuff though. There could be a book of their line-up changes and it'd pwn Webster's Dictionary in size.

I'm pretty sure it was Mick, but I may be wrong.

TheSubtleArts 07-13-2005 04:54 PM

No Mick was deffinetly in the band recording s/t, it was Jim who came along shortly after.

Theres a big difference between overated glam metal and the only good nu-metal band still standing.

hethamulburton 07-16-2005 11:50 AM

I'd say Godsmack is more mainstream and popular than Slipknot.
I mean in terms of sales for albums and airplay on the radio, cause Duality is the only song I've ever heard, and Godsmack I think is still going strong, so Slipknot isn't the only nu-metal band still standing.

Tennek 07-16-2005 12:03 PM

slipknot are also popular !!!
they are even famous in japan !!!
and ther were on the grammy awards ore something like that :p

Huber 07-16-2005 12:09 PM

There is plenty of Nu-metal bands still hanging in there. The best ones are still making music. Slipknot, Mudvayne, Mushroomhead, Godsmack, Korn...etc

Tennek 07-16-2005 12:10 PM

godsmack is nu-metal ???
didn't knew that

I think if you are born your popular in Japan.

But yea Godsmack is nu-metal, but with their last albums Faceless and Otherside, I think they are drifting into Mainstream Rock, but their roots are no doubt nu-metal.

Mr. Black 07-16-2005 03:11 PM

Sorry but I have to say, how the hell can you like these guys, i mean; There are 9 of them in the band, and they wear silly masks all for this stage prescense, and I'l admit that its original and they have an original sound, but I find all this stuff really tedious,

Don't ypu people get scared by these maniacs, when you go to the concerts they make you pary to them and beat the crap out of each other,

AS for the band itself, 9 members is far, far, too much, they have about 4 guitarists, that's too many, Yestaday, I watched the Video to Duality; and there were only 5 members of the band playing, i dont know were the rest where and the clown was hittin stuff, with a bat, If they are gonna be on of the greatest bands ever, (WHich I'll amit they probably will) THey need to fire some people, thre are talented musicians in SLipknot that are goin to waste, and could vbe using their ability to the fullest in other bands

first off...they only have two guitarist...

and what is wrong with being tedious...thats what makes them great...its hard as hell getting 9 people together to perform in unison like that for this genre of music...

as for the beating the shit out of each other...they don't...sid, the DJ used to get infights with with shawn, clown...but those days really are over...

and as for the duality vid...chris and shawn really dont that many beats to the song...

then there is sid and craig...you cant really be expecting to see any theatrical playing from the samples tech and dj as seeing the type of equipment that they use

THAT'S IT !!! :thumb:

Down'd Angel 07-16-2005 03:53 PM
So, By custom percussions, you mean drums or what
yeah...percussions are a branch off of drums...

they are more bass oriented...

to me, they help pull alot of their songs together...they form a second back bone to joeys playing

Tennek 07-16-2005 03:56 PM

in there earlie days they were all drummers ( shawn, joey and chris )
so i read

TheSubtleArts 07-16-2005 03:57 PM

some songs like 'Vermillion' showcase more of the custom percussion drumming. there is not a lot of songs were they have extensive parts though, but they also do backing vocals.

I've listened to a lot of bands and I have to say thats is fairly original, having a drummer and then two back up drummer people, hmmmmmm. When you say Bass oriented do you mean they play bass and hit snares and things. Or they have just a bass drum, a snare and a few chimes, while this Joey guy has all the Toms, and bass drums and the stuff

hmmm...no...not per say...they just play a more low end version of the drums...

joey plays all parts...hell...joeys kit is monsterous (sp?) double bass beast...which i love...

but songs like (sic)....really show their talent together, the trio of them :)...
in there earlie days they were all drummers ( shawn, joey and chris )
as for that...joey has always been the drummer...shawn was customs percussions and backing vocals....

chris on the other hand didnt join til later...im not exactly sure...between MFKR and their self titled...

before him and corey on vocals...anders colsefni used to do custom percussions also...the song "windows" really is a good showcase for it...

Down'd Angel 07-16-2005 04:45 PM

sorry for double post...

but here are some pics of what their percussions are...

these are what they primarly use...
http://www.slipknot-metal.com/smimages/chris29.jpg

and on this third album...they have started using these...really the only song ive seen it on is "three nil"...
http://www.slipknot-metal.com/smimages/chris60.jpg

Edit:

here is a better pic of their setup...
