Sounds like one of 'em "drum kitz".

Janeway 01-22-2008 11:33 PM

I'm thinking about reading Anna Karenina.

Win A Rabbit 01-22-2008 11:46 PM

My friend thought it was called "27 Dresses Later", and was making zombie jokes whenever his girlfriend talked about it.

He just found out today it's not actually called that, and realized he's sounded like an idiot for days.
Could somebody (especially etp2, chippy, seafroggys) take a listen to this?
For some odd reason your snare seems kinda weak. Do you compress it at all? Might be a good idea if you did.

Its hard to tell outside the context of your music, but I can guess that your toms might be lost in a mix. Just a guess though. Didn't notice a lot of high end slap. The actual tone is good though.

fishbulb 01-23-2008 01:11 AM

My snare drum sounded better before i tried retuning it to kill all of the buzzing. I'll have to readjust either the tuning or the EQ to make it sound better again. And yes i do have some compression on it.

I'm also really happy with the kick drum, sounds powerful and focussed.

ConnectiveTissue 01-23-2008 01:16 AM

fishbulb, recording sounds pretty good, nice and spacey, but not nearly enough presence, if you get what I mean? How many microphones were used?

Win A Rabbit 01-23-2008 01:53 AM

I think I'm going to quit my band and maybe join another band playing bass.

My band's going nowhere, and we never get together. And this other band is (I think still) looking for a bassist and seems like a fun band to play with. I used to play with the drummer, she's pretty good.

Win A Rabbit 01-23-2008 01:56 AM

good body, face not so much. hittable i suppose, but not too high on my list.

oliv_da_skinmasher 01-23-2008 02:07 AM

Anyway, new mix everybody. I spent 2+ hours trying to eliminate the snare drum buzz while playing other toms (on the actual drums with tuning, not on the recording) and as you can hear i failed.

And yes, i know that i sped up in the middle, do i care?
Everything sounds good but the snare IMO. Try tightening up the wires and tuning up the reso a bit.

I still think your hitting WAYYYYY to light. You'll get more tone out of your kit if you hit harder. Your cymbals still aren't really opening up.
