Yea, he does. If you're looking for Ben Harper stuff try getting his Live from Mars album as I feel his studio work really pales in comparison.
Yeah, I'd agree very much there.

My flatmate sometimes insists that Stealer's Wheel have been the only band to use a slide without making him want to kill someone, yet he loves Ben Harper.

metallica83 04-26-2005 12:29 PM

Allota you hate nu stuff, but anyone heard of 40 below summer? Theyre like slipknot and trapt hanging at breaking benjamin's house

metallica83 04-26-2005 12:31 PM

or... Interpol. i love them and i hate a lot of scremo

Bartender 04-26-2005 12:33 PM

Interpol are good, but I don't see why you're mentioning them next to your hatred of screamo ?

Try reading the first post of this thread, please.

Can anyone recommend me some really dark, scary, stuff, with high pitched screaming and scary sounds and voices and whatever, something like cradle of filth

Dr Doom 04-27-2005 12:49 AM

I just got done reading the thread involving metalcore bands and their lack of uniqueness, could anyone recommend some good ones that ARE unique?

fantomas, what sort of music are they? They sound quite interesting.

Dude3 04-27-2005 05:00 PM

Okay, I have a few requests:
What are some great Steve Vai or Joe Satriani songs?
What are some good classical songs?

Also, I'm wanting to get into some more Death Metal. I love the band Death, because they have great musicians, and awesome vocals. What are some awesome Death Metal bands, that don't have Mono-tone(cannibal corpse) vocals, and are very good?
Thanks

I'm no expert on either, but for Steve Vai, try "For the Love of God".

Athiest and Cynic are for you :thumb:. Mithras as well, although they sound much different than Athiest and Cynic.

I would also suggest Lykathe Aflame, but the vocals are very low, so you may not like it. The plus side to it would be the outstanding musicianship, songwritting and melody.

Vai: For the love of god, the audience is listening, yai yai, the attitude song, erotic nightmare

Classical composers: John Williams, Beethoven, Mozart, Paganini. Typing these names into a P2P program should bring forth their most known/sometimes best songs.

You may also like to check out The Trans-Siberian Orchestra, who incroporate classical elements into rock songs, and Haggard who blend classical music with metal.
fantomas, what sort of music are they? They sound quite interesting.
Could only really be called "experimental". Try checking them out though, most of what they've done is good so far.

I'm not really an expert on metalcore but the ones I like are Converge and Posion the well.

Dude3 04-28-2005 03:54 PM

Two more things:
What are some good The Mars Volta songs, what CD of them do you reccomend, and what genre would you classify them as?

Also, what would you say is the best Meshuggah Cd? I have "Nothing", and while its good, I've heard that it's crap compared to their others.

They are classed as prog rock but I don't know if I agree with that.

Eriatarka and Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt are two of their best tracks I feel, and De-Loused in the Comatorium is the Stronger album.

can someone recommend me some black metal bands/albums

thanks

ArcLite 04-29-2005 02:57 AM

Immortal - Sons Of Northern Darkness was the album that got me rolling down the black metal road. Great album. Also try Bathory - Blood Fire Death, Emperor - In The Nightside Eclipse, and Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.

u2forlife 04-29-2005 03:58 AM

can someone please recommend to me some albums or songs by SRV and The Allman Bros?

ATM 04-29-2005 03:59 AM

Can anyone recommend some songs that build up to a climax?

stoner dude 04-29-2005 05:45 AM

Can anyone recommend me some cool, melodic and creative music that isn't overly pretentious and/or tacky?

I like Opeth, Isis, Tool, Porcupine Tree and Soundgarden among other bands.

ArcLite 04-29-2005 05:47 AM

Well, seeing as you like a lot of prog stuff I'd say check out Symphony X and Dream Theater. Both are progressive, melodic, and show exquisite musicianship.

stoner dude 04-29-2005 08:59 AM

Yeah, thanks for the recommendation...but that's the thing... I find most of those "prog bands" eg Dream Theater, Symphony X etc to be too pretentious and tacky... Also, I don't like the excessive showmanship.

I like bands like Opeth, Isis, and Tool because they are melodic, creative, and progressive without feeling the need to show off their technical skills. And also, they have some really cool riffs.....

Get any of these for starts:

Emperor - Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk, or In the Nightside Eclipse
Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane
Mayhem - De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas
DarkThrone - A Blaze in the Northen Sky

Those are good starters, so enjoy. :thumb:
