...Thats not fast ;)

Just tremolo picking.

How about wearing spandex and playing Escape

Morning_Glory 02-22-2004 12:05 PM

It was not just klars objecting to napster, it was the hole **** band for ****s sake, they nominated lars to be spokesperson and front the campaign.
I ahve being paying guitar for a year and how the hell do you play that Four Horseman intro, the bit where it is palm muting switching between 5 and 7 on the a stering and hiting open E? It never sounds right when I play it.

d---------------------
a-5-7-5-7-5-7-5-7----
e-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0----

the bit above is what I cant nail, it never sounds right, when I play it I can only hear the e string, I can never hear the notes on the A string properly.

Morning_Glory 02-22-2004 12:07 PM

that damage inc solo isn't fast heh? Is that why its the 6 fastest shred solo ever?

Squirrel 02-22-2004 12:26 PM

^ I refuse to believe Damage Inc is 6th fastest. I can name 6 Petrucci solos alone that are faster.

Joeeddstealschickens 02-22-2004 01:54 PM

I saw a list of the top 10.They are:
1.Steve Vai-The Riddle(20.8 notes per second)
2.George Lynch-Wicked Sensation(19.8 nps)
3.Kirk Hammet-Damage INC(19nps)
4.Paul Gilbert-Addicted to that Rush(18.8nps)
5.Eddie Van Halen-You Really Got Me(18.7nps)
6.Joe Satriani-The Mystical Potato Head Groove(17.6nps)
7.Nuno Bettencourt-He-man Woman Hater(17nps)
8.Yngwie Malmsteen-Far Beyond the Sun(16.8nps)
9.Marty Friedman-Ashes in your Mouth(15nps)
10.Steve Morse-Tumeni Notes(14nps)

so there you go.

Squirrel 02-22-2004 02:08 PM

So where is Marcus Paus with 44 ? and Paul Gilbert with 40 ? ^, or am i being stupid and missing something here ?

Joeeddstealschickens 02-22-2004 02:17 PM

That's what the article said,I'm just writing it down.I haven't even heard half these songs! If you want to check it,it's in Total Guitar mag, issue 118.

superpeer 02-22-2004 02:35 PM

How about this :

Who the hell cares what the fastest solo is?

:)

Joeeddstealschickens 02-22-2004 02:38 PM

a)all the people who posted before you and b)it's just a point of intrest

superpeer 02-22-2004 02:39 PM
a)all the people who posted before you and b)it's just a point of intrest
I don't see what's so interesting about it.
Music is not a competition.

RareMana 02-22-2004 02:42 PM

thats probably cause your a guitar n00b who can only play power chords and you think tom delonge is the greatest guitarist ever.

Joeeddstealschickens 02-22-2004 02:47 PM
Music is not a competition.
You're right, though I never said it was. It's just like comparing how fast an athlete can run,or how slow a slug goes.It just comes from listening to a solo on a song and thinking "****,that's fast."We're just taking it a step further and wondering just how fast the solo is,and in comparison to other guitar solos. If you want to,then call it 'appreciating an artist for their talent'.The rest of us will call it 'comparing the speed at which some guitarists can shred'.

superpeer 02-22-2004 02:49 PM

Yeah, you're absolutely right, good point.

Alright, you have fun comparing solos. I'll keep out of it. :p

Joeeddstealschickens 02-22-2004 02:54 PM

Tom DeLonge has got some great (punk) solos if you don't mind,RareMana. Not that fast, but the one on Degenerate and the one on Reebok Commercial are great.

*slaps self in face for confessing liking of Tom DeLonge*

UnknowN Doodl3 02-22-2004 05:54 PM

I had an argument with two of my friends concerning the speed of the master of puppets solo. They were talking like it was the fastest solo on eath. Here's what one of them said:

"The solo is ****in hard its like 4 notes per second!"

I was laughing my head off!

But is it true that its really fast or does it just sound fast.

Wanker 02-22-2004 06:24 PM

^^While that solo IS fast, its still not as fast as the solos in Ride the Lightning.

superpeer 02-22-2004 06:34 PM

and they aren't as fast as the solo from damage inc.
And that is not as fast as some other solos.

Case closed :smash:

UnknowN Doodl3 02-22-2004 07:28 PM

One question for anyone who can play anything. How much time of guitar playing did it take for you guys to play the damage inc solo. I'm curious...

UnknowN Doodl3 02-22-2004 07:35 PM

Which, by all means, is The most incredible solo you've ever heard Hammet play and on which album is it. I want to know what people think, if this has been done before then give me a link.

YDload 02-22-2004 09:43 PM

I think the first Fade to Black solo is the most incredible one for me. It's certainly not hard or anything, but it gives you that nice tingly feeling.

metaliq 02-22-2004 09:52 PM

<something about metallica>

I dislike the new metallica cd. the sound quality seems crappy (to me at least) and it was too repative. And it just wasnt *metallica*.

I am wearing a master of puppets shirt right now. Go me.

</something about metallica>

Wanker 02-22-2004 09:56 PM

^Yeah, definitely that one and the last one in Welcome Home (Sanitarium) are both very memorable.

Joeeddstealschickens 02-23-2004 06:51 AM

The best Metallica solo is 'The God That Failed'.

superpeer 02-23-2004 09:33 AM

I like the 'ride the lightning' solo.
Also the 'blackened' solo and 'one' solo.

NoHero9 02-23-2004 09:54 AM

I like all of Metallica's solos. they all hit home. They all make me feel tingly, deep down inside, where im soft, like a woman.

also, I like a lot of wah wah in solos.

Jon 02-23-2004 11:33 AM
That's what the article said,I'm just writing it down.I haven't even heard half these songs! If you want to check it,it's in Total Guitar mag, issue 118.
Only n00bs / sk8r kids read Total Guitar. Its too commercial. I doubt that 5 of the readers have heard of TD Clark (Or even Mr Cooley for that matter (remember my guitar teacher has had a lesson from Cooley))...

Joeeddstealschickens 02-23-2004 02:14 PM
Only n00bs / sk8r kids read Total Guitar. Its too commercial
^Only closed-minded fools post statements like that.It is commercial because it is a magazine.I read TG cos it has a f**kload of tabs and backing tracks of songs I actually want to learn, like Hendrix or Metallica etc. The only other option on the market (really) is Guitarist, which has one 'classic track' every month, like 'Texas Flood' by SRV.I don't know about you, maybe your just a superhuman eletist whose guitar talent needs no help, but a lot of us play for enjoyment and hobby, and a mag like TG gives the oppurtunity to learn more songs and tehniques to further our playing.
