Yeah, just because a band has a singer that screams from time to time, doesn't make them screamo.

SGlove 03-23-2005 11:49 PM

C'mon now, suck it? Are you in the Eighth Grade?

What's with this Morov guy's obession with penises?
Freud would say he has issues.

Wow 03-24-2005 06:56 AM

That was, without a doubt, the best verbal schooling I have ever seen.

dislocated214 03-24-2005 11:43 AM

I think the Used is power-pop.

Nick Morzov 03-24-2005 04:42 PM

You're right, maybe I don't know everything there is to know about the genre, but nowhere in there did you give a solid definition of emo/ screamo, (don't compare it to some other band because that would leave it up to interpretation and there'd be confusion in that one). If there is no solid definition to the genre maybe you should poll the members of the forum. What better defines a genre than its fans right? In the event that after all of this the used still don't fall under emo or screamo, I won't stop liking them, but I will back down and apologize for my arguments. Say days ago is a pretty good song as well, also check out pieces mended... As for everyone else, I'm not talking about songs like "all that i've got" or whatever it is you saw on mtv last week... Try listening to the rest of the songs on the cds they're actually pretty good. THE drummer DOES do pop punk beats but at the same time adds flavor and variation. Which makes it easier to listen to. I know there are more hardcore bands out there than the used, but at the same time they are doing what they love and making a d*ckload of money for it... the used are making the music they want to make. I like them. So with that said i'm sorry for generalizing the genre, in tern don't generalize a band like the used... i seriously don't think bert is thinking i need sing in a certain way to keep my band in the pop punk genre... did you ever think that maybe that's just his voice? If you really think the used is that bad of a band... i like the sound... tell me more... what would be a good step up... not a HUGE step but more towards what you would consider respectable?

Thanks and sorry

Nick
Giving a solid definition of emo is one of the things I've neglected to do as a mod. As a compensation I have a huge band list for each genre so you can listen and figure out for yourself what makes emo or screamo the way it is. Also, a genre is defined by its fans. Good Charlotte's fans think that they're punk, but Good Charlotte is just a stupid pop band. Their new song even has rapping on top of the pop. It's really weird. The fans don't always know best. Often the bands don't even know what type of music they're making (www.purevolume.com allows members to label themselves and tons of people who aren't emo/screamo label themselves as such).

I don't care about your thought on The Used. If you like them, yay for you. I've listened to all of their songs and know that they are not a band that interests me. I'm the one having the argument with you because I know what they're about, and it's not good to me. I'm not generalizing anything. In fact, you're the one generlizing by assuming I don't know anything about The Used.
i didn't mean you when i said generalizing... i didn't think you were at all, in fact you probably know more about them then i do... anyways what do you mean by "what they're about"?

Wow 03-24-2005 10:25 PM

I missed the A Day In Black And White concert. I hate life.

Edit: I got the date wrong. I love life and cb.

RetiredAt21 03-25-2005 12:41 AM

Are you guys still arguing? Jeez, stop.

BuddyBigsby 03-25-2005 12:43 AM

I love it when n00bs think they can out-argue DFelon.

SGlove 03-25-2005 01:51 AM

That was beautiful man.

Has anyone heard any Appleseed Cast?
I haven't seen them mentioned around here recently. I wasn't sure if they were filed with Jawbreaker into the Pop-Punk or the emo and was forgotten about.

BuddyBigsby 03-25-2005 01:56 AM

Appleseed Cast were good.

There are lots of mistakes in your argument, you know.
The only songs I can find on either CD that stray from the pop beat are "A Box Full of Sharp Objects" and "Maybe Memories," which are actually sorta cool as songs.
the hidden track owns.

There's not such thing as bad and good music. Everything comes down to opinion, and debating whether TBS is good or not is just a plain waste of my oxygen. Simplicity doesn't make something bad...

But bringing TBS (and The Used) in this thread was, in the first place, wrong.

Before posting keep one thing in mind: emo is NOT poppy. you will probably never (or very rarely, though we'll never hear that type of music on the media where I live) see emo on TV so forget underoath, the used, MCR and all of the likes.

Read at LEAST the first page of the thread, to see names of emo/screamo bands before you post (not wanting to flip through 70 pages of text can be understood, but NOT posting without getting your *** ripped open on the first page of the thread.) This doesn't look like a community thread anymore, it's a n00bie slugfest.

Yes there was. If you'd have taken a look at the rest of the thread you'd have noticed there are dozens of noobs who come barging in here thinking underoath and my chemical romance are emo. ok thx bye

As did I, stupid venue being shut down

cbmartinez 03-25-2005 07:13 PM

Are Books Lie emo or just hardcore?

tornpictures 03-25-2005 10:26 PM

To me, they're hardcore.

I don't think anyone could disagree on this one.
If YOU read the threads you'd see that we'd already settled that... D*CK.
If you read the thread you'd have noticed I don't give a **** about you or your lame argument against DFelon, but rather the never ending flow of pop-centered kids who come here and post about underoath and the likes thinking it's emo. You're just one among the throng. Have a fine day :thumb:

Who cares if there is a never ending flow of kids that don't know what emo is. Once they read the thread a little they will learn, which is a good thing. The Used, TBS, Finch etc. fans don't really bother me. It's the ****faces that say they hate emo because it's whiny p'ussy s'hit about guys breaking up with their girlfriend. They think that emo is softcore punk. If you try to tell them emo is really emotional hardcore they will laugh at you. If they ever saw this forum they would laugh because hardcore and emo are grouped together. They think Dashboard Confessional is the epitome of emo. Then, you'll have the "emo fans" come back and say that's not real emo. Listen to SOTY, The Used, Thursday, and My Chemical Romance. (I think Thursday and The Used are good bands though, just not emo.) These people think emo kids are all depressed, and wear thick glasses. You know, the same stereotype of emo being a fashion instead of a genre of music which is completely WRONG. You'd be surprised how many people think like this. These are the people that piss me off.

The_One 03-26-2005 01:59 PM

Sup DFelon.

This thread is so old, but really clean. Good modding.

Saetia is neat.

RetiredAt21 03-26-2005 08:58 PM

Saetia definitely is neat.
