Oh, I'm pretty sure they are completely anti-religion, or atleast maynard is. That idea may not be expressed as much in Tool, but APC has several tracks devoted to anti-religion songs. Judith and The Noose, for example.
Although, it could be argued that those are anti-christian songs, and they hardly ever mention other religions.
I agree. Maynard is pretty anti religion or anti christianity. But he's not saying other ppl shouldn't believe in it. I don't think he really cares as long as you are thinking for yourself and aren't blind. He says that religion used to be something pure until some a.sshole comes along and tries to make money off of it. He doesn't like the people who use religion for profit. Don't forget about Opiate, thats a very anti christian song. |
Deadohiosky, what song has the line "This is necessary" in it? I've heard it and have it on my computer but can't remember.

Disgustipated, last track on Undertow. "life feeds on life this is necessary". Good song. |
I feel a little let down. The live version of Third Eye I have doesn't have the whole 10x or so repeat of Maynard saying "Prying open my third eye". Aw, that part's so badass..
Hah, well alright, it's still a totally kick *** version. Anyone got any other different live songs other than off of Salival? |

This is really random, but how come in some threads i can see ppl saying "f.uck", and its not censored, and in other it is? Does it just no catch it or what? Cuz i see it all the time.

Otherside,
i think the line "jesus won't you fking whistle something but the past and done" is more saying jesus (christianity) is all about the past whereas maynard/the protagonist of sober, wants spirituality to be about the future. Its interesting i'd never noticed until you quoted your own post above, that the seeds of tool's "evolution" philosophies are lyrcially quite strong even on undertow. I'd always considered them to be beginning on Aenima.... **** they're good! |
i havent really noticed any lyrics about the whole evolution thing or whatever on undertow i thought they started all that on aenima like u said but i guess not. might have to go look at that again....

The only reason that it repeats constantly is so the CD could be pushed to the limit of the allotted CD space. Doing it live would be a strain on his voice after so many shows |
Hooker With a *****, is my favorite song on the CD...Yet no one likes it :(
|
i like hooker with a ***** but its not quite my favorite song on the cd
by the way got the new apc cd. pretty good i didnt really like it at first but it grew on me. passive is probably my favorite song on there. they should of made more original songs though but its still good |
Hooker with a ***** is a pretty highly rated song of theirs... just not talked about much, probably because it's very straitforward in lyrical content.
|

So.. I was out walking my dog tonight, no moon and no street lights. I was listening to Parabol-Parabola. We'll at the end of Parabol, at the lead into to Parabola, my heart suddenly started beating 100 beats a minute. Then parabola started playing, and while listening to it I could swear I saw a little girl runnign the opposite direction from me, closed my eyes, opened them, she was gone. Turned around and headed back to my house. Saw a care pulling out of a close drive way. A few seconds later it got really bright, brighter than headlights can normally get, I turn around, the cars completly gone. It was pretty weird.
But, to give a meaning to this post, have you ever been listening to Tool, or any other band for that matter, and just startedly freaking out/seeing things for no reason? |

Thats totally insane man. Its happened to me, but not as detailed as that. I was just listenin to Tool while going to sleep, and I thought I saw something. Kinda scary. |
everytime i listen to stinkfist (my favorite of all tool songs) i get goosebumps at the crazy effects after the 2nd chorus!
|
Yeah, sorry for diverting the conversation off Tool...but given the number of votes for Stairway to Heaven and One that are going to be coming in, the more nominations for other songs the better. But anyway...hard question, but which one Tool song would you say is their best? One of their more well known ones, or is there a lesser known one that encapsulates their sound better?
I seriously think Stinkfist is Tool's all around best song. I have listened to all of Tool's songs and all of their albums and i must say Stinkfist is the best. First of all, it's on my favorite album, Ænema, and it shows off Tool's highly rythmatic and heavy style. It shows Maynards ability to sing in different ways and Adam's awesome ability with effects. I think the crazy effects part after the 2nd chorus is the best in any Tool song! |
Sometimes when I listen to Tool before I go to bed I'll get like a little smack on the head or something it freaks me out sooo much.
|
do you mean physically or something illegal?
|
Passive is quality..I've never really had an expeirience with tool..but their songs someitmes pop into my head at weird times ...Eg at the cinema with a freind...have random urges to tap out 'the grudges' killer fill like a million times...
/Is not sad :) |
I randomly quote lyrics in conversations, and i dont see that as sad, so tapping out drum intros seems professional compared to that.
I only have weird experiences when playing tool songs, everything around me suddenly seems relevant to tool. |
One of the coolest things that has ever happened to me happened at a show. I was playing a show on the exact stage that Tool had performed on in the past. We were covering Aenema, it became really strange for me. I was playing the song, which at times is challenging, during the easier parts of the song I actually broke concentration and started looking around. It suddenly came to me that the last person to play this drum track on this very stage, through this very PA system was Carey. The lights on the stage lit my kit up in ways I remember watching him play on that very stage and watched those lights light up his kit. I could look to my right and remember Maynard standing there and could imagine Adam and Justin down in front.
It was probably one of the greatest drumming experiences I have had. The bad thing is the stage lights. Lights that big actually get so hot they burn you, my back was sunburned for several days.. |
Thats a pretty impressive deal there, what venue was it? (just for 'slimmest chance of me recognising the name)
I took Lateralus to work with me today, and after reading this thread, I suddenly noticed a lot of things around me keeping time with the music (lights going on, people walking in rythym, etc) Or maybe it was just me |
It was the Big Sandy Arena in Huntington WV. They played the arena with Tomahawk in the month of 10-2001.
|
Nope, it was a long shot that i would know it. But thats still cool to have been involved in.
The closest i've ever ben to a tool played venue is Donnington Park. They have played 4 shows in England in the last 4 years. 2 festivals, 2 in London. So we are severly deprived of tool here |
While you in a cool man thread jonny, still want eMOTIVE tracks sent to you? ill upload them if you do.
And im still looking forward to the DVD purely for the good live interpretation of the Noose, since when I saw them do it, the sound was bad |

/Is not sad :)
Haha which one? I'm still having troubles with that song. Whenever I'm idle, I like to tap out the accent pattern of the Ticks and Leeches intro....it's become like second nature for me now because I literally do that ALL the time. I'll also tap out the accent pattern for the Grudge, but I don't think Carey actually plays the pattern like so in the song...*shrug* Oh well. |
I want to do a video for Lateralus. I've got so many ideas for how to do it. A combo between cool camera work and meaning. How cool would it be for Adam to relinquish music video control to an amateur?
In other news, guess who finally found Merkaba through P2P? |
You?
