Free Ipods. I gave him a piece of my mind.

Cain 11-02-2004 01:46 AM

Free ipod thread. What a dope. Advertising like that. I see HeavyRiva has beat me to it, however. Close that sucker up.

http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=259770. Wrong forum. But don't move it, just lock and ban/ Because that **** is way too overdone in the guitar forum as it is.

jpj 11-02-2004 08:16 PM

Okay, I hope I don't sound stupid, but is the "reputation" button under everyone's avatar new or am I stupid and never noticed it?

Kingofdudes 11-02-2004 08:22 PM

Tis new

jpj 11-02-2004 08:25 PM

Okay, now I know I'm not retarded. Apparently I have 10 reputation points :thumb:

Kingofdudes 11-02-2004 08:26 PM

I just barely got out of the negatives :(

jpj 11-02-2004 08:29 PM

I just approved of one of your posts hopefully it'll help you out.

Cain 11-03-2004 02:10 AM

How can you check the reputation points? How do you know which posts go for which point? And what do the little green squares mean?

Permanent Solution 11-03-2004 02:22 AM

Check in user CP. The posts you get them for are listed there. I see no green squares :(

Cain 11-03-2004 02:30 AM
Check in user CP. The posts you get them for are listed there. I see no green squares :(
I have none listed in user cp, but it says I have ten points. Is it in a specific menu?

Riva 11-03-2004 02:32 AM

It should say the last reputation point you earned, and what it was for.

I'll give you one now. :thumb: :)

This guy even knows he is going to get closed.

Cain 11-03-2004 02:35 AM

Gotcha. Does everyone start with ten? Because there are still none there except for yours, Riva.

Riva 11-03-2004 02:45 AM

I think they do.

http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=258767

Here is the thread in the site forum. Not much info on it yet, though.

Good stuff, SFK. That is a really great idea. And Medopalis should be a mod of R & M, for all the good stuff he does around here.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hey, I was wondering if we could start an "exposure" thread. Somewhere were people can post bands that they think are up-and-coming, or are relatively unknown. We would have to restrict people from posting their own bands though.

We could set it up so that they review the band, give it a genre, classification, etc. and then list their favourite song and maybe a link to their sample mp3s etc.

Also, how would a "Recommended songs thread" go down? It seems we always have tons of people saying "Recommend me some Megadeth, etc." and it clutters up the forums quite a bit. I redirect them if it is related to an official thread (e.g. Classic Rock or Death Heads etc), but some of these are of relatively unknown bands. So in this thread, they post the band, and their general musical tastes, and others can then give a list of songs that they think that poster will like. I haven't got a major beef with these types of threads, but it would streamline the forum a bit. (In my opinion at least :) )

What do you all think? Sorry if it is a bit unclear what I'm getting at. :p

I second Riva's idea (as if this is a democracy pfftt) :p

I also put forth the idea that using "gay", "fag", etc.. as an offensive insult become a bannable offense because we do not need trash like that polluting our forums. It is also generally offensive and in bad taste for any one who may actually come to this site with that sexual "preference." If any mods agree with this I would appreciate it if you would toss it up in the mod or site forum. :thumb:

Broken Arrow 11-03-2004 08:09 AM

I have a question that has probably already came up but what are reputation points?

Are they good or bad?

SonorKen 11-03-2004 08:18 AM

The reputation points are a good thing. Be patient as the system is worked out....

When somebody calls something gay they aren't making fun of Gay people. They're saying it is not cool. Not saying homosexuals are uncool.

Gay has 3 meanings, 1 real meaning, 2 slang:

1. Happy "I feel so gay that it is Christmas," The real meaning
2. Homosexual "Gay people can date each other if they want, it doesn't effect me,"
3. Uncool "That song is gay,"

(Note how I capitalized gay in the noun form)

Read it. Carefully. Afterwards, come back and debate meaning with me, you are wrong. The first two are both real and accepted meanings, the last is a sad attempt to justify discrimination and profiling. It originated as an insult to homosexuals because they were uncool. It is also still used as an insult, if someone is not gay, then why call them it, and then ask if they like it in the butt? Don't be ignorant, it does not mean uncool, and if it is used as such it is still derogatory. Shall we also use "******" or "Spic" as a synonym for uncool as well? That is what you are suggesting. Don't respond to this, you are wrong, and, additionally, this is the wrong thread to do it in.

i am the robots 11-03-2004 06:33 PM

Dude are you really offended by someone saying I think that your acting gay?

I know a kid who is gay and he says things are gay all the time... so yeah... It's not "profiling or discriminating"

Probably not, but I was suggesting that if it was a bannable offense it might be cut down a bit though. I just figured Jeremy might go for it anyways since he tries to keep this site pretty clean. Just a suggestion though.

Eleven: You are an idiot, just because someone uses it all the time does not make it less discriminatory. Yes, it does offend me, moreover, it sickens me. The homophobicism of America is disgusting, 11 states just prohibited gay marriage, don't tell me that we are not discriminating against gays, if you choose to participate, don't waste your breath trying to justify it. It is immature and I have a big problem with how accepted it is to use it in that context. I can almost guarantee you if you asked a gay person if it was offensive that that term i used as an insult they would say yes. You also support Bush so I really don't think I can get such a thing as civil liberties and rights into your head anyways. Once again, DO NOT REPLY IN HERE. Start a thread in politics if you want to continue this.

Sorry 307 for spamming your thread :upset:

Got it. Medopalis is tearing it up, four stars!

Try to take the arguing to AIM or something. We need to keep this thread as clean as possible. I know Jeremy wants to keep the site clean, but in the R&M forum we're more concerned with keeping it readable.. It was the most insane forum on this site at one point, and we're still trying to get it to the same state of the other forums. It's getting there.

But to you users who are calling people derogatory names, stop. If you keep it up I will ban you. It's not needed.

Permanent Solution 11-03-2004 06:54 PM

Oh snap, I wish I was as cool as Medopalis.
