Thanks dude..
Thanks dude..
Don't limit yourself to Black Water Park
It's good, but it is only a tiny taste of what opeth is like.
For a first Opeth Album I'd suggest BWP because its the easiest album to submerge yourself into for most of the public. Although BWP is the most accesible, I'd try Still Life.
Just my opinion though.

Alright..thanks to you to

Hive 02-21-2005 01:00 AM

I own ****ation, Deliverance, Blackwater Park and the Lamentations DVD.

Opeth is the best. Period.

Hive 02-21-2005 01:04 AM

Morningrise is their best album BTW. I'll be purchasing it within the month.

hafez 02-21-2005 01:42 AM

Opeth are an amazing band. incredibly creative and very skilled
been listening to them non-stop for like a month

opeth_oasis 02-21-2005 02:35 AM

theres a new diary entry on the site, mostly bout a new years eve party though (and the weirdest pic of mike ever)

Det_Nosnip 02-21-2005 03:42 AM

I still don't get the obsession with Morningrise. Still Life+BWP all the way!!

opeth_oasis 02-21-2005 04:22 AM

morningrise is addictive, but for a while you may get sick of it. I never get sick of still life, but morningrise and bwp are my favourite albums. BTW, do you think the lineup of Opeth is the best ever? I mean if you had the chance would you change the lineup, say put johan or anders back in? I feel the lineup to be perfect how it is, it would be cool to have anders as a full time piano player though

magicbus 02-21-2005 09:56 AM

To CARMEN77 if he shows up here, check out Orchid.

Deth 02-21-2005 10:28 AM

I got Orchid about a week ago and I love it. I never thought I'd be able to listen to a 3 minute piano piece and love every second of it. :)

I'd never change the lineup (sans adding members). IMO, the band is at its peak right now, the Martins are both excellent musicians, alot more well-rounded and diverse than johan and anders. In fact, that's a big part of why I hardly find myself listening to the first few albums...it's just not the same without them, I feel that Lopez and Mendez better embody the kind of band that Opeth is. IMO, there could never have been a song like "Face of Melinda" or an album like Dam nation without them.

Hah...try "Star Crossed" by Arcturus. Best. Piano. Intro. EVER!!!

RouteOne 02-21-2005 12:40 PM

Any new info on their new album????

nicksilver101 02-21-2005 08:46 PM

I just started to get into opeth, the more I listen the more they amaze me. They can pull off a song like hope leaves, which I really like, and then they have brutal, wicked death metal songs.

Is there any other songs people can suggest the are like hope leaves by them

BradyEB 02-22-2005 12:27 AM

the Whole ****ation album, Credence, Benighted and Harvest.

opeth_oasis 02-22-2005 12:37 AM

you might also like to bid you farewell

willis2441 02-22-2005 01:07 AM

can you guys recommend me some good opeth albums?thx much appriciated

opeth_oasis 02-22-2005 01:09 AM

for a new opeth listener i recommend blackwater park, simply because it is pretty much what opeth is all about. Still life is another great album to get into opeth.

4130 02-22-2005 01:57 AM

Well I dont know. Personally the way I got into Opeth:

I was in a heavy mood and I wanted to listen to something brutal, so I asked my friend what's a good death metal band he instantly said Opeth. So from hearing much praise about them and now this reccomendation I decided to go to the record store and get a CD.

So 30mins later I come hope wth Damnation. It wasn't at all what I was expecting but it was an amazing album. I listened to it twice through and then thought "man, these guys kick some serious ***"

In 30mins I come home from the record store with Deliverance. Listen to that twice through and absolutely loved it. In another 30 minutes I get home with Blackwater Park, and that absolutely blew me away.

Fast forward about 2-3 weeks, and I owned the rest of the albums, and the DVD. These CDs have been on constant replay for the last 6 months. Seriously, I cannot believe that I had not listened to these guys before.

evil ernie 02-22-2005 08:10 AM

Yeah that dude should have told you that Dammnation was not a death metal album. It's good that you have enjoyed it anyway though, it's a brillant album.

whatduffhuck7 02-22-2005 02:02 PM

MOS DEF the best opeth song with out a dought is 'the leper affinity'
anybody agree?

BradyEB 02-22-2005 09:01 PM

Ive got the dvd but not the studio album of ****ation. Do you guys think its worth buying if i own the dvd?

ArC 02-22-2005 09:07 PM

I this the Drapery Falls is their best. Haunting guitar riffs, perfect transitions, and a great mix of clean and growling vocals. Amazing

Det_Nosnip 02-22-2005 10:05 PM

I keep coming back to "Godhead's Lament." I dunno, though..."best Opeth song"? Maybe I could pick a "best Opeth song for x mood," but best overall would be pretty **** near impossible. I mean, you CAN'T compare a song like Demon in the Fall to Harvest or Death Whispered a Lullaby, because they're completely different songs.

"Bleak" is my favorite all-around, with "The Moor" probably at a tie. "Blackwater Park" best for the heaviest. "Benighted" for best acoustic guitar. "Black Rose Immortal," "Windowpane," and "A Fair Judgement" for the most complex, cool melodies and harmonic content.

relliK 02-22-2005 10:52 PM

The Moor all the way for me.With The Leper Affinity coming in second.

Dancin' Man 02-22-2005 11:43 PM

Dark Suns = Most similar band to Opeth in terms of genre I've ever heard. Every should check them out if they can be found.
