I actually got Nimrod before Dookie, but I can't say which one I like better. My second all-time favorite song is on Nimrod, though. Hitchin A Ride.

What happened to his wrist?

Oz Rembrandt 05-26-2006 02:09 PM

He developed Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, which is a degenerative disease of the nerves in the wrist, restricting movement.

My fav song on Nimrod has to be Scattered.

Scattered is a pretty bitchin' song.
Worry Rock is a close second though.

Oz Rembrandt 05-26-2006 03:24 PM

Another Sentimental argument, and bitter love...

Yeah, Worry Rock is a Top Tune too.

Was Cigarettes And Valentines (The stolen Album) ever leaked onto teh net?

chumpradio 05-26-2006 03:33 PM
Was Cigarettes And Valentines (The stolen Album) ever leaked onto teh net?
Nope, but in my opinion, I think that what was Cigarettes And Valentines ended up as The Network's album.
They both seemed to happen at around the same time, but I may not be correct, as it was a couple of years ago.

Untitled 05-26-2006 04:12 PM

I doubt greenday would of released the network as there own stuff, its too different, and not like them, i think that would of made them loose lots of fans.

The Jungler 05-26-2006 04:29 PM

I saw GD live back when I was obsessed with American Idiot among other Pop-Punk CDs, they were good but Billie's constant sing/sing back games bored the shit out of me.

pgm 05-26-2006 10:54 PM
I fail to see an artistic statement in American Idiot. I see an album pulled together, just barely, and stuck with a "We hate George Bush" ethic to it, because its whats the popular thing these days.
There's barely anything political on the album. The first track is the whole "Don't do what the establishment tells you to do" thing that Green Day has been doing since "She". It's more about the media than George W. "Holiday" is about war. On live shows, they rant about Bush, but not on the album. The album is a story: Dirnt calls it a punk love story or something like that. That's a lot more accurate than calling it a Bush-bashing album.
As for Warning, well, I don't deny that its a good album, but the influences don't interest me. Those arn't bands that interest me, so the music appeals to me less.
I'm not a big Warning fan because I think it gets a bit too repetitive in the middle. I understand completely that you don't enjoy the style. An acoustic guitar? A riff ripped from the Kinks (slight modification). A song that is a re-working of Petula Clark?

But that's really Green Day's secret love--60s Pop. It's like The Clash releasing Regae songs or a lot of Dub. They're a punk band, but they play more than punk.
I'm not saying they shouldn't be moving forward, I'm saying that thats what got me into them, but they've moved away from singing about things I can relate to anymore.
Fair enough.

Oz Rembrandt 05-27-2006 05:59 AM

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Thanks for forming a cojent argument though. Most people just type *OMGz, American Idiot iz t3h bst b-coz Billi3 J03 iz h@w7!1*
It was refreshing.

nag*with*a*gun 05-27-2006 10:29 AM

^did (or is) mike getting surgery or something for it? I believe my father had a carpal tunnel.

Oz Rembrandt 05-27-2006 03:28 PM

Yes, Mike has had surgery for his wrist, and is apparently back to normal playing ability.

nag*with*a*gun 05-27-2006 04:44 PM

was kind of hoping the lack of good bass wasn't voluntary.

Bad Blood 05-27-2006 04:46 PM

it wanst amazing in first place.

Oz Rembrandt 05-27-2006 04:47 PM

Not amazing, but above average. Better than alot in the genre.

Bad Blood 05-27-2006 04:48 PM

not above average imo

Oz Rembrandt 05-27-2006 05:11 PM

Fair enough. Depends who you compare him too. Les Claypool, maybe not. Mark Hoppus, Definatley.

nag*with*a*gun 05-27-2006 05:23 PM

its not BAD

Well, I can relate to how you feel. It's not like I became a Green Day fan with American Idiot. I was a fan before, and I was interested in hearing American Idiot. I've become more interested in serious music since I first started listening to Green Day, so I listened to American Idiot as a whole album--rather than a sum of songs.

It really is a much better album as a concept than musically. I liked Boulevard of Broken Dreams when I first heard it, then became horrified at how overplayed and overrated it became. The preppy girl in High School who you hate sings "Don't you wish your boy friend was hot like me" followed by "I walk a lonely road, the only one I've ever known". It was kind of sickening, so I picked a new song that was underrated--Holiday. Of course, that became the next single, so I had to move on.

Both are still good tracks. They're overplayed, but that doesn't make them bad. The real top tracks on AI are Jesus of Suburbia, Letterbomb, and Homecoming. They all are key events in the concept, but are great musically as well. I'm glad that two of those songs are too long to get airplay around here. I know a Top 40 station wouldn't touch them.

By the way, Mike Dirnt is a pretty good bassist. He has some good basslines and bass performances. I mean he's no Entwhistle or even Nick Oliveri, but he's pretty good for a punk bass player. He can carry a song with a bassline or just his playing. Long View, Welcome to Paradise, No One Knows (off Kerplunk), Panic Song, Last Ride In (the most unexpected Green Day song ever.)

Oz Rembrandt 05-28-2006 05:53 AM

Stuart and the Avenue... (AWESOME bassline).

I do like a few tracks off AI. Notebley, Holiday and St. Jimmy.

Oh yea. The bass is the best part of Holiday. Especially the bass break in the middle. The bassline to Geek Stink Breath is pretty good too.

Get Fighted 05-29-2006 01:12 PM

So i looked for my AI cd.. and i can't find it :upset:

Youre not missing anything

Get Fighted 05-29-2006 03:07 PM

Its a good album imo

Bad Blood 05-29-2006 03:15 PM

I like it. More than some of their older stuff.

Ross 05-29-2006 04:28 PM
The bass break is boring...
You think so? That's probably my favourite part of the whole song

Bad Blood 05-29-2006 04:32 PM

Yeah, well it's good, but it goes on for too long and it's really basic, just painful to know how much he can do better.

chumpradio 05-29-2006 04:52 PM

I know that everyone goes on about how bad AI is, but today I listened to it for the first time in ages, and it is a great album. Lot's of amazing songs on there.

yourstruly 05-29-2006 09:06 PM

I really like. I actually don't think it's that much differerent to their older stuff. Just lyrically it's a bit different.

pgm 05-29-2006 10:04 PM
Yeah, well it's good, but it goes on for too long and it's really basic, just painful to know how much he can do better.
I guess I see your point. It's still my favorite part of the song, but it's more of a vehicle for Billie Joe than showing off Dirnt. It doesn't really go on that long though.

nag*with*a*gun 05-30-2006 01:02 PM

lyrical diffrence=a lot of difference

Tooth Ache 05-30-2006 01:17 PM

I think I've gotten over American Idiot, and suckyness that came along with it.
They've had some great albums in the past, and thats what counts, I guess.

Get Fighted 05-30-2006 01:19 PM

I used to always dismiss American Idiot as a bad album, but it is a quality album. But obviously, they have done better albums.

hello_mr_jones 05-30-2006 01:21 PM

AI ( I keep thinking of that movie A.I., with the kid who was in 6th sense) was alright, but all the hype that came with it kind of dragged it down.

Way too much hype. And radio overkill.

And when I think of AI I think of Allen Iverson.

DJ Ducksauce 05-30-2006 09:53 PM

Haha, I never liked Iverson.

OK. I'm a Sixer fan. The 2001 season is still the most fun I've ever had as a basketball fan (actually as a sports fan).

KissArmyStarChild 05-31-2006 01:20 AM

Green Day is really awesome. I can't wait till the new album comes out. I hope they finish soon.

pgm 05-31-2006 04:38 PM
Green Day is really awesome. I can't wait till the new album comes out. I hope they finish soon.
Yea, I hope it will be good. They say they're throwing out song ideas already, but haven't started recording. I don't think it will be another Rock Opera (or at least I hope not). They're probably going to turn AI into a movie (Which will probably suck, but I might be suprised).

I hope the layoff won't be as long as the wait between Warning and American Idiot. Of course, there was a good reason for that. Green Day were recording the follow up to Warning and the master tape was stolen. They were depressed and didn't want to re-record the songs. Mike Dirnt started fooling around with a 30 second song, then Billie Joe, and then Tre Cool all started creating 30 second songs. It ended up being about 10 minutes and sounding like a Rock Opera and that was how American Idiot was created.

Speaking of that, there is a lost Green Day album. I don't think any of those Master Tapes were ever leaked. I wonder what they sound like.
