Actually, Gerard used to be alcoholic and a drug abuser, but he's sober now after he had a meltdown on tour (pre-Three Cheers). And the deal with Three Cheers isn't that it's more or less honest than the first album - it's just not as dark, a bit more cinematic, and, I'll admit, streamlined more for better crossover appeal.

iBENezrocker 07-23-2005 05:22 PM

Theyre most famous, most "pop" but its loud and its good, Im not ok. I used a closed mind git, but then i started to listening to everything and appreciate it for what it is,MCR are ok, but i dont think Id buy any of their albums or anything like that

iBENezrocker 07-23-2005 05:23 PM
I'm ashamed to say I kind of like this band.
Amen.

dan_electro182 07-24-2005 01:05 PM

ive been a pretty big fan lately, i havent really heard their first cd but i like 3 cheers. i like Helena, I'm Not Okay (I Promise), and The Ghost Of You.
i also think its kind of stupid when people stop liking a band just because they become popular or "mainstream." a song or an album doesnt change if more people listen to it, so what would make you stop liking it?

Untitled 07-24-2005 01:07 PM

Im just sick of them being played on the radio, they just annoy me now, i like them when i want to listen to them, ill still go see them live etc etc etc. But if there on TV, i just turn over because the tv has ruined them.

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 07-24-2005 01:34 PM

I've never seen the lead singer with regular clothes on and with out make up........ With regular clothes he'll probrally look like a fat a'ss. He use to be fatter.

hey, you're not cory! 07-24-2005 11:29 PM

I've seen him in a t-shirt, gym shorts and flip flops. True story.

He still looks ugly though

Mother_Of_Abominations 07-29-2005 05:56 AM

MCR is a pretty good pop-punk band, I'm listening to thank you for the venom right now.

Ganondorf 07-29-2005 06:03 AM

That song is AWESOME.

Mother_Of_Abominations 07-29-2005 06:04 AM
That song is AWESOME.
yes it is.

Ganondorf 07-29-2005 06:06 AM

I know.

Firecracker 07-29-2005 06:39 AM

Yes, i agree.

Ganondorf 07-29-2005 07:09 AM

Isn't that good? :)

I don't stop liking the band, I start hating the people who suddenly have a huge MCR obsession after i've been telling them to check out the band for the past year.

I'm still a big fan but I don't listen to them much anymore, I really like MCR filmclips though- I think they did an awesome job on TGOY and Helena. I'm not okay is a funny clip but I was never a huge fan of the song because the chorus is so lyrically basic and unoriginal.

SunnyDayRealEstateAM 07-29-2005 09:42 AM

I was flipping through Fuse yesterday and they had a MCR live program. I saw the last 10 minutes. They are horrible live. Gerard can not sing live. He kept on taking deep breathes. And the band didn't have their s'hit together. Complete mess.

Yeah, MCR are studio-produced.

Dumpweedrock 07-30-2005 10:54 AM

i liked 3 cheers, but i saw a few live performances on tv and stuff and i wasent impressed. Gerard basicly screamed half the words on most of the shows ihave seen and the words he dident scream were either off key, sung by the crowd, or just plain not sung at all. What i find odd is that i saw 2 songs on aol sessions( shut up i was bored as hell)
and the band hardly moved at all, but the performace was alomost perfect. So im thinking maybye gerard can't sing when he's moving or something? im am planning on seeing them at warped this year for the first time so i guess ill get a taste of thier live sound in person.

oh yeahy i just wanted to add in that the only song i have heard from them before 3 cheers was the song drowning lessons and i really liked it.

I have to MAJORLY disagree with this and every other "they are awful live" comment.
Gerard did an amazing job of getting the crowd into the set. He did do a lot of screaming but it worked for him. As for them not moving, that is totally not true. They all were very energetic and lively. They all did so much to get the crowd going and moving.
MCR probably had one of my favorite live performances just because of Gerard's showmanship.

Untitled 07-30-2005 02:20 PM

I agree with Rissa. The only problem i had when i saw them is there set was way to short. The first time they was a support band so its not too bad, but the second time, i think they played for 45 minutes and it was there headlining show, they was good but pissed me off at there set lenth. Still im paying to see them again.

TheChaplain 08-01-2005 01:52 PM

Let me add my voice to the "MCR is a good live band" movement. I saw their MTV2 Special, and I loved it. I taped the whole thing, and I still watch it. Like Rissa said, Gerard plays the crowd really well, and the tone of the songs that they play means that his voice screaming, or breaking, or wailing really fits the material. And the guitars are just as good live as they are on the record - maybe a little more sloppy, but in a good way, and Frank's stage presence is awesome.

TheChaplain 08-01-2005 01:53 PM

btw, check out my review of "Three Cheers" at sputnikmusic.com

DepthsOfDreams555 08-01-2005 02:10 PM

i really like MCR but i saw them at warped tour in indy and i thought they sounded ok they werent great but the also have a cd released that is from this years warped tour in like san diego and i listened to like Helena and Im not okay from that cd and it really sucked but i guess they always sound better when im there haha

gffbrl21 08-01-2005 02:39 PM

i like them, "helena" is great.

Bad Blood 08-01-2005 03:28 PM

They're not the best band live. But they do make awesome music.

poprocks&coke 08-01-2005 04:48 PM

Do they play Headfirst for Halos on their setlist?

'Cause they better, the bitches.

Untitled 08-01-2005 04:54 PM

Last time i saw them they played it, i cant remember about the first time.

I think on there next tour theyll play mainly 3 cheers, some off IBYMBYBMYL and hopefulyl some new tracks off there next album.

poprocks&coke 08-01-2005 04:56 PM

Next album? When's that coming out?

Untitled 08-01-2005 04:57 PM

I dunno but i heard some where there writing it, so maybe theyll play some songs off it.

RissaPoodle 08-01-2005 05:10 PM
Do they play Headfirst for Halos on their setlist?

They didn't when I saw them a few weeks ago(much to my dismay). They played Drowning Lessons. I think that was the only one from the old album they played actually. Everyone went crazy when they played it.

Untitled 08-01-2005 05:11 PM

they didnt

Gererd gave us a big lecture on if we think about killing our selfs, talk to somebody and dont do it. then they sung that, it was in april though. The 8th to be precise, the ticket is pinned to the wall along with all my gig tickets and pit bands.

When I saw them, Gerard gave this big talk to all the girls about how if some asshole in a band tells us that if we show them our tits they'll let us backstage... we're suppose to flick them off and yell "fuck you". All the girls freakin went insane. And had their middle fingers in the air. It was great.

Oh, they said that too, but he said, "spit in there face and say thank you, thank you for the venom..." them played im not ok for some reason...

Ok, that very last bit was a lie, they played TYFTV serprisingly.

RissaPoodle 08-01-2005 05:19 PM

Before they played To The End... he sang "Here Comes the Bride" and I thought it was pretty effin sweet.
And before they played TYFTV he kept going "Can I get an Hallelujah" and "Can I get an Amen" and it was neat.

Untitled 08-01-2005 05:22 PM

They said that to befre they played to the end too.

I saw one of there set lists in a magazine and it had all prompts on it to say all that stuff, we said when we was there "he'lll say that every night of this tour" i remember next to TYFTV it had in big letters "****" which is proberly censored and i cant be botherd going around it but you get the jist.

CrimbleVan 08-02-2005 08:13 AM
