I saw the Butterfly Effect a few years ago at Enmore, I can't really remember their sound but I wasn't a big fan initially. They might get some QOTSA or Tool influence into their sound through this producer which wouldn't be too bad.

PeEpHoLe_10 08-24-2005 05:18 AM

Argh, im in a bit pf a pickle. I had planned to go see Cog tomorrow night but i forgot about the exams i have on. I want to go, but should study. I have my music exams the day after though, so if they put on a good show it might inspire me to go out and kick arse, lol.

Ulysses 08-24-2005 05:21 AM

Go to the concert, make the most of the opportunity i reckon.

PeEpHoLe_10 08-24-2005 05:26 AM

Yeah i probably will end up going...i would still fail the exam anyways.

Ulysses 08-24-2005 05:42 AM

Yeah, I'm currently doing the HSC and not studying real hard, I'm too absorbed in music and instead of reading through notes I have my head stuck in a book about Hendrix or Eric Burdon.

Same :upset:

My trial results left alot to be desired.

PeEpHoLe_10 08-24-2005 05:57 AM

Hahah...well i have my second English test tomorrow, and what am i doing? Posting on ****ing MX, curse this site, lol.

dUSK 08-24-2005 06:12 AM

Go and see Cog, and if Shihad are at the same show it is a must. The two bands one after the other was an awesome experience.

AIC/EAZY-E, the Shihad setlist was very similar to the setlist you told me to expect. I didn't know anything of Love Is The New Hate though, as I'm yet to hear it.

Finally, apologies for not getting anything done on Sunk Loto. It'll happen once I get through all the crap I need to do for uni.

Five Star Prison Cell

www.fivestarprisoncell.com

Adam Glynn - vocals
Marc Whitworth - drums
Marek Holain - guitars
Andy Macdonald - bass

Fans of Dillinger will approve of this experimental metal band. They are fronted by ex- Frankenbok vocalist Adam Glynn. I saw them at Bayswater metalfest last week in the outer suburbs of Melbourne where about 50 people turned up for this event. Absolutely blew me away. Quite technical and very amusing. Sound like Dillinger Escape Plan cross SOAD with their own musical flair. Very inspiring live performers; check out their website and follow the links to download one of their songs. :thumb:

Has no one mentioned The Berzerker yet?

Nobody has done them yet. Are you going to?
Five Star Prison Cell
I have their song Ballad Of The Cheated, the vocals are a bit heavy for my likes at the moment, but with the interesting music I will be giving it some chance. I've seen the drummer live in his other band, Tension.

Getting some more songs off their site now, I'm hoping Gandhara is the same one from Monkey.. .

dUSK 08-24-2005 07:05 AM
Nobody has done them yet. Are you going to?
They have had a small bit done on them here. Feel free to do a larger/more in depth piece on them though.

All the artists that have been done are listed in the first post. :)

MRDuCran 08-24-2005 07:36 AM
Nobody has done them yet. Are you going to?
To be honest, i don't really know much about them, I just like the song Reality after seeing a video of them rehersing it.

PeEpHoLe_10 08-25-2005 06:15 AM

Welllll, i decided to go to Cog, and how happy am i about that decision. I couldnt stay for Shihad cos i need to study, but Cog were AMAZING live. It was a small venue and only 200-300 people,so i got right in the middle on the barrier. Great show. Missed out on a drumstick though, the two people next to me got them which sucked. But it was a really good show,so glad i went.

I can't say that the exams I have received back have been too crash hot either. All I do at home is play music, read books about music, listen to music and draw pictures.

Iron_Weed 08-27-2005 04:08 AM

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds = Best Australian band ever.

Ulysses 08-29-2005 04:25 AM

Yeah I saw Nick Cave at Wave Aid and watched a documentary on him, very interesting guy. I haven't got any of his material with the Bad Seeds to be honest but I'm considering buying an album.

Jasarn 08-31-2005 05:50 AM

Glad to see no one acknowledged my write-up. :(

dUSK 08-31-2005 06:15 AM

Please don't take it like that. It was a good write up and one day I'd like to check Vanishing Point out. However, downloading isn't a viable option for me, and as I'd never heard anything by them I couldn't really comment. Also, you were unlucky in that Lord Tim posted shortly afterwards, taking up the limelight.

I have there new album, it's awesome! I want to go see them at the corner hotel in Melbourne but it's overage and I'm still 17! Anyways, I can upload some if you'd like..?

I can't download music due to the amount my college charges me for internet. If I had any brains, I'd leave mx and save myself a small fortune. I know I won't though. Anyway, I appreciate the offer, it's very generous, but for the amount I would pay to download it I'd rather just buy the album. :)

Oops! Sorry 'bout that!

For what it's worth, VP are awesome and good guys too - I definitely encourage everyone to grab one of their albums. Their new one is out on Dockyard-1 (Piet Sielk from Iron Savior's label) if no one has mentioned that yet.

Anyone who wants a taster of what they do, have a look around the P2P networks for Surreal from Tangled In Dream. Awesome song. :)

Hehe, thats cool I read that quote but wasn't sure why you would be unable to so I decided to offer. If anyone else is interested I'll happily upload some.

Greg and any other's showing some interest: A rare Red Paintings song that I just remembered I have, it's on webspace at the moment, sunbaking.

Ulysses 09-01-2005 02:29 AM

Nice, yet another band that I have been meaning to sample as I have heard some talk about them both on MX and elsewhere.

dUSK 09-01-2005 02:47 AM

Whats that you say? Rare?

/breaks no downloading of music rule

Ulysses, your in luck. I upload The Red Paintings - Walls [EP] just the other night. Theres the link if your/anyone is interested.

EDIT: Just listened to I'll Sell You Suicide. It's not bad, recording quality isn't the best though. I was hoping for more of a distorted ending, like I've been loving on The Streets Fell Into My Window or the middle of Dead Adults, but meh, still a decent track. I'm glad it's now in my collection.

Ulysses 09-04-2005 06:17 AM

Cheers mate, downloading now

Sunk Loto

The Band:
Vocals/Guitar - Jason Brown
Guitar - Luke McDonald
Bass - Sean Van Gennip
Drums - Dane Brown

Sunk Loto have been the makers of much great Hard Rock since the release of their debut EP, Society Anxiety, in 1999. It's a good collection of short, rocking tracks that aren't too hard on the lesser experienced musicians. It's opening track, Vinegar Stroke, was the first song I learnt with my first band.

Big Picture Lies was the groups debut album, and it first hit Australian audiences some time in the year 2000. The band sounds varied a little more than the EP, making it less repetitive, and the increase in cleanly sung vocals was a big plus for me. I find 11 to be an intriuging track, with it's Hip-Hop style beat and vocals. It just not something I expected from Sunk Loto, but it's not bad. Sunken Eyes is a stand out track, and consequently became rather popular. I can also see similarities with the band Karnivool.

3 years followed before Between Birth And Death was released as their second album. Jason reverts to more of his screaming vocals, and the album is generally more aggressive. It's not bad, but I wouldn't call it brilliant. I guess what most impresses me about this band is their live show, and the fact that they actually went to Mt Isa. Apparently at one point, the Mt Isa show was listed as one of their best on their website, but I never saw it. Give these guys a listen, as any Aussie should have heard them at least once.

This is a good EP, they could've made an album out of this material. I would like to see this band live now that I've heard them. "Walls", "Dead Adults" and "Mad World" are great tracks but the whole EP is pretty solid. They are coming to Sydney in late September, I might check them out.

My_sweet_Shadow 09-08-2005 12:45 AM

I do believe Daysend are a quality Australian band sorry dont have enough time to do one of those big *** thingis but im shaw someone will ne ways daysend go off they opend for Slipknot in january i thaught they were better then Hatebreed that night and i think they opend for In Flames and Chimaira back in September 04. So they have played with sum high profile bands which is cool

dUSK 09-08-2005 05:47 AM

HeavyRiva, are you still intending on doing something on Silverchair? If your not, let me know and I'll gladly do it.

Same goes for AIC/EAZY-E with Shihad.

:)

Jasarn 09-08-2005 05:54 AM

I love you G_Mac.

Ulysses 09-29-2005 08:32 PM

Anyone heard Wolfmother's new single "Mind's Eye"? It's coming out October 16th or thereabouts, I heard it on the radio and also on their website but haven't found a place to download it. I will probably buy their new album anyway as it will be released soon.

Simon__Thats_All 09-29-2005 08:36 PM

The Living End should have a new single out soonish as well. Going from their recent material though, it's probably not anything to really get excited about.

Ulysses 09-29-2005 08:57 PM

Yeah, they have talent though and great potential. It is a shame that it was disregarded on Modern ARTillery, I know you're probably right but I'm hoping they have canned making songs like Who's Gonna Save Us.

RIP Ian Curtis 09-29-2005 11:57 PM

The Living End used to definately own all. But Modern Artillery sucked humungous ape testicles.

dUSK 09-30-2005 12:49 AM

wow! I thought this thread was dead. I might actually do a few more artists for it now that it's been revived.
