The Alembic was used on Intestinal Fortitude. It had frets at the time.

I bought it used while we were on tour. It came that way. I had broke the headstock of my 5 (and didn't have a backup) so I bought it at Guitar Center in hopes of returning it 30 days. I liked it so much I kept it. I had 2 hours to adjust from 5 to 6 strings. Yeah! :thumb:

So, Jean, you have some pretty interesting lines and riffs going on most of the time in your music. What's your creative work-flow? I mean, do you work from a scale or just messing about by ear. And how do you incorporate your work with the rest of the band. Do you figure out a song sitting and talking about it or do you jam until it just sounds right?

Usually, we make up ****ed up stories and try to write soundtrack music to them.... I don't think scales and stuff really come into the picture since we aren't doing solos etc.

As for sounding like Dillenger Escape Plan, we've been playing since the 80's, I think they formed in 97 or something. hahaha. They're new singer (Greg?) sent us an email when we were looking for a singer and said he would love to do it if he wasn't in Dillenger(or was some kid pretending to be the singer of DEP). We've been told we sound like dozens of bands that were formed long after us (system of a down is another one), but that's okay - we're more underground and not on MTV or anything. Geez, the deftones, greenday and papa roach used to open for us! I have a recording of Papa Roach playing (or least trying to play) a Nuclear Rabbit song... hahaha. That wasn't a dig on them, they just half-assed it.

Yeah, I have a fretless bass and I have one being built so I dig fretless, but I much prefer fretted.

Actually, tapping is just a small part of what I do... but two the videos on my site show it so I guess that's what you guys think I do. If you seen me live (with the band) it's maybe 15% tapping.

I've always played bass and wanted more notes. I don't think a Stick would do anything for me since I can't play it like a normal bass too (and it's got that whole upside down string thing going on).

Have you ever tried the Tetris theme song? I've figured out the main melody, but I can't get the bassline simultaneously because I don't know much tapping. However, I was wondering if you've ever considered arranging it for yourself.

Yeah, I think I figured out Theme "A". The bassline is pretty easy though, it's only octaves... maybe it's a different one you are talking about?

Yeah, I like FF 3/6 too... I actually like the older ones better than the newer ones. I played quite a few of the RPGs for the SNES (Chronotrigger, Soul Blazer, Illusion of Gaia, Secret of Evermore, etc). Never got into Megaman though.

As for Wals, I've never seen a 9-string Wal so if they made one maybe I'd be interested, but probably not as I've got plenty of basses already.

Do you have some kind of Copyright on the design of the Pac bass so that it cant be replicated without your permission (Like Kirk Hammet and his "mummy" guitar), or would Bill Conklin Make a replica if the price was right?
then again, he may wish to not make a replica of it, like Carl Thompson with the imfamous "Claypool Rainbow bass" as he wants to never make a replica of an old bass...

Not that I want to steal your bass idea, but I was just wondering.

hahaha... the graphics are too dreadful on Adventure or Pitfall for an inlay. I don't think that duck-looking dragon thing from Adventure would like nice on a fretboard.

I have more video game inlays planned - but you guys will have to wait until they are done to find out what they are. :D

the bass I used on bowling for midgets in the ralph 5-string (there's a picture of it on my website). The lyrics for SF Treat were "censored" because we got too much crap from past reviews. Instead of writing out an explanation in the liner notes, we decided to just cover them up.

We actually played an unannounced secret show last night in Santa Rosa... but the last show last year was at the Whiskey in LA.
