metaliq 02-22-2005 10:23 PM

Alright, after carefull analysis of Poison Oak's lyrics... I think the song is about his brother. What are other's inferences?

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-22-2005 10:43 PM

His cousin Colin who commited suicide.

metaliq 02-22-2005 10:46 PM

Actually, I think it is about Colin, written to Colin as well.

theredwonder 02-23-2005 08:45 AM

I concur. I'm bumming Elliott Smith right now.

Necrophilia ++

i_mine_cor 02-23-2005 04:49 PM

Right now, I'd have to go with Catch for us the Foxes and Irony is a Dead Scene. But they seem to always be at the top of the list... so for an album that is temporarily my favorite, I've recently been stuck on Norma Jean's "Bless the Martyr, Kiss the Child" just waiting for the next one to come out.

Oh, and APS, weren't you a bit let down with Digital Ash? Tracks 3, 6, and 11 were all disappointments to me... I haven't gotten ahold of "I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning" yet, and I heard that one was better.

To metaliq: I know you listen to some good stuff, could you give me an idea of what those two bands (in reference to the two cds you bought) you suggested are like? Also, if you haven't already heard it, go over to purevolume.com and check out Norma Jean's song "Memphis will be Laid to Waste"... it's fantastic.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-23-2005 04:51 PM

Well, those are the songs that let me down on Digital Ash also, although I quite like #6 (it's catchy). Time Code is trash too, the first track.

IOWNU200 02-23-2005 05:02 PM

Has anyone in here seen taking back sunday live?
I'm really exciting because they're playing a show in town on my birthday, so I'll deffinately be there. So I guess I was just wondering if any of you have seen them live and should i be this excited for it

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-23-2005 05:04 PM

I hear they let down live. You could probably pick up some hot girls at the show though :).

IOWNU200 02-23-2005 05:05 PM

haha, oh well, I'm still excited nontheless since my parents are Nazi's and rarely let me go to concerts. I've only been to like 4 or 5 in my entire life

Permanent Solution 02-23-2005 05:06 PM

I've only been to about 10, I just never go though, cause I'm lame :)

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-23-2005 05:07 PM

Nobody plays shows where I live, it's like a 2 hour drive to go see one... EFF DAT.

Permanent Solution 02-23-2005 05:13 PM

Well, I can only see very local shows now that I have no car, but RX Bandits is here in about two weeks playing on campus :)

IOWNU200 02-23-2005 05:13 PM

hah I'm cincinnati, so we get a decent ammount of good show

Yeah but their set was short(warped tour) and they played only new stuff. They have a good live show.

That should be awesome, they are good.

EDIT: First Day of My Life, Poison Oak, and Train Under Water are my favorites. and We Are Nowhere... The whole album is quite good though. I'm also very impressed with Digital Ash. Arc of Time, Gold Mine Gutted, Take it Easy, Hit the Switch, and Light Pollution are awesome. Fevers and Mirrors is still better. Do you guys like the new stuff or older more?

Ska of Dead was awesome.

Permanent Solution 02-23-2005 08:28 PM

*Ska is dead?

If so, I hate you fool :p

Yeah. Typos+. It was awesome though, seriously, it was the most fun I've had at a concert. Streetlight did a couple Catch songs. MU330 were my second favorite band that played. Superspecs were also awesome. I don't really listen to Voodoo Glow Skulls' recorded stuff, but live they were great. It was still really fun to listen to them even though I don't really listen to their albums.

The Chariot: Has ex-norma jean vocalist, who was on the Bless The Martyr cd, and a lot heavier. I saw them live along with Showbread, As Cities Burn, He Is Legend, and Far-Less. www.purevolume.com/thechariot/

He Is Legend: They are awesome, a mix of quiet a few genres. The vocalists range is pretty sweet, and he does some heavy growls. I guess you would have to hear them, The Seduction is a good song. www.purevolume.com/heislegend/

Both are signed to Tooth & Nail I believe.

I have heard Bless The Martyr, Kiss the Child upwards of 20 times (full cd listens), so I am quiet firmiliar with Memphis. I love Aaron's guest vocals.

MWY is my favorite band, of all time. I have been a fan since A to B life, and got possesion of the songs from their demo. I have listned to Catch for us the foxes upwards of 30-40 times, full cd listens.

I got Konrad addicted to MWY, and I believe I introduced them to Zeppi.

Hmmmmm, what else am I spinning on my cd playa. Well, on my mp3 player I have been listening to a lot of Porcupine Tree, The Fall Of Troy ( www.purevolume.com/thefalloftroy ), Dragonforce, The Pixies, Still Remains ( http://www.purevolume.com/stillremains/ ), Monday In London, Show Bread, Norma Jean, Nodes Of Ranvier (metalcore, like NJ - www.purevolume.com/nodesofranvier/ blink or we may miss it is a good song from the cd)....

Yea, I dunno. I have been working 4ish hours a day, post schoolage, and I decided today that i was going to use the company gym. That was the first tiem I have ever worked out (outside of my house or school) and I liked it, i need to put more muscle on my 6'2 frame.

Arghhh, I really want to see it, but I don't think I can.

Ty: I saw them live before you said a word about them to me

I liked Fevers and Mirrors, but the aforementioned songs are growing on me.

Obviously Poison Oak is my favorite of the CD though :). I haven't yet picked one from Digital Ash though.

But you said they sucked (well, you didnt like em because of some odd reason, and you liked blindside more), and I urged you to listen to them again, THEN you became a fan.

:thumb:

I am not gloating... just taking credit where credit is due... lol.

i_mine_cor 02-23-2005 11:30 PM

I like the older bright eyes stuff. Definitely. Haligh, Haligh, a Lie, Haligh.

And I live somewhere that 130 miles from everything so I've actually only gone to one concert and there was only one set played *sigh*

I am going to miss Norma Jean's old vocalist too, he's the best thing to happen to metal-core (except for those guest vocals). I'll have to get some of this Chariot stuff. Have you ever heard Bella Futuro? If not maybe send me an email and I can get you the song. I'm kinda angry that I didn't get into mwY sooner and missed their ep, but (being a horrid person) I downloaded it last week.

And as if this wasn't enough, I too recently started working out. One to one and a half hour workouts, three times a week, for two weeks. I'm already a monstrous heap of muscular intimidation and testosterone. /flexes

Meh...

I gave you their EP...keep that in mind :p

theredwonder 02-24-2005 06:08 AM

Hmmm. I used to hate Feeder, they piss me off. But some guys have been going on about their lyrics for a while so i thought i'd check out some of their earlier stuff. Not too bad, better than their latest shit.

"I feel this going down
Ten feet below the ground"

Dear God...

metaliq 02-24-2005 11:09 AM

Eww.

*salutes zeppi*

theredwonder 02-24-2005 11:28 AM

Afternoon Metaliq, how's your day been?

So what's all this about Thrice's lyrics being amazing?

metaliq 02-24-2005 02:30 PM

Ahoy redwonder. Forgive my latency, for I am home doing homework.

Our school is a very big wrestling school, so we have the option to 'go' to the wrestling tournament (all out people went to state lol) today and tommorow, so i chose to stay at home and do homework today.

Other then that, I am liking Porcupine Tree currently... how beith thee?

theredwonder 02-24-2005 04:06 PM

Oh not too bad. I managed to miss this morning's lecture, but i made the afternoon two and that's me done until the 6th of March. Unfortunately after only 5 hours of freedom i'm already bored out of my skull. Perhaps i should do some reading, not read a book for a good while.

i_mine_cor 02-24-2005 05:06 PM

I'm at school as well. All our wrestlers got back from the state tournament sometime within the last two weeks or so. I'm "doing math". Another twenty minutes and I'm out of here... Been reading some of Keat's poetry, it's good. Planning on reading "Paradise Lost". Anyway, see you guys later.

metaliq 02-24-2005 08:50 PM

Pariadise lost did a decent cover of one of The Smith's song.

Hmm, I have been listening to Porcupine Tree (even more...) and I am starting to like them more (even more...) then before.

Would anyone mind telling me the difference between 'than' and 'then'?

Is than comparision, while then is referring to time? It has been bugging me, haha.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 02-24-2005 08:57 PM

Than = comparison (Something is bigger than something)

Then = passing of time, sequence (Then, we went somewhere)

metaliq 02-24-2005 09:31 PM

Ah, just as I had thought... APS, you are my hero.

theredwonder 02-25-2005 10:20 AM

Then also has several other meanings.

mshort813 02-25-2005 02:23 PM

whats the difference between effect/affect?

IOWNU200 02-25-2005 02:38 PM

effect is the result of a cause and "affect" is like to alter something
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to metaliq again.
Aww noes...

So can anyone recommend me some acoustic rock with lyrical genius to boot that i probably haven't heard?

metaliq 02-26-2005 12:35 PM
You have 680 Reputation points.
Aww, someday.

How about The Spill Canvas? The Tide is a good song, along with All Hail The Heartbreaker, but the only song that sits on the verge of cliche is 'Black Dresses' and that is only because of one line, the rest of the song is good.

metaliq 02-26-2005 03:01 PM
