Can't we have a discussion other than Ben vs. Dirk?

misunderstood 03-08-2005 09:43 AM

I actually like Incubus...they're not my favorite band but they're all right. My favorite album is probably Make Yourself (its the only one i have actually). However, I must say i was rather disappointed when i saw them live last september. The show was just kinda...boring. Who knows, maybe it just wasn't one of their best performances but I've seen better.

Incbus is definitely an excellent band. The most admirable aspect of their music, in my opinion, is that it is constantly changes so the material never gets dry. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is their greatest achievement to me because it is so funky and fairly heavy which better satisfies my constant craving for metal music. Morning View, again, in my opinion, is the worst of thier albums because it contains the least amount of great songs, but it is still good. Seeing as how some of my favorite bands are Metallica, Megadeth (best band of all time), and Slayer, I would probably class myself in the category of people who enjoy Incubus (no pun intended) no matter what genre is their favorite . Overall, Incubus is great and I hope to see much more of thier music in the future.

The Odyssey is awesome, all the four movements. Flea plays the trumpet on the Third Movement, sweet!

Sleeper 03-08-2005 03:53 PM
The setlist blows though. Mostly the last 3 albums, which makes for a sad fanboy.
The last 3 albums were the best music they have ever written. Dont give me the Fungus Amongus funk speech, Im sick of it.

Deth 03-08-2005 03:59 PM

fine, I'll spare you it. But I'm thinking it in your general direction.

Cheers for the Odyssey by the way. Very cool. You can have some imaginary rep.

quoted for some truth.... all of Incubus's albums are great ... personally I am tired between Make Yourself and Morning View because their both awesome... but yea the rest is pretty much true

Deth 03-09-2005 08:04 PM

After much thought, my favorite post science song is under my umbrella. Just awesome.

Anyone else like it?

\m/ vo|ati|e \m/ 03-09-2005 08:52 PM

Actually, you´ll also find Crowded Elevator in When Incubus Attacks Vol 1, but that was a limited edition CD :thumb: . What´s everyone´s thoughts on Time Lapse Consortium (Incubus´ parallel project)? I think TLC is great! My favorite songs are Grimace, Cholula and Tres Puntos.

Orange Fog 03-09-2005 09:48 PM

I first got into Incubus when I heard 'Megalomaniac' about a year ago... (sorry, I was your usual MTV-drone :upset: at the time, don't fret though, I have been exposed to 'good' music) anyways, I fell in love with the song. I decided I'd just go out, buy an Incubus CD, and see if I like it. I bought "A Crow Left The Murder" (not sure about the real title... that's what I think it is...) anways, I quickly fell in love with this album as well. I plan on buying "Morning View" next, as I have downloaded songs frfom there, and like a bunch of 'em.

Just an FYI too, I like Dirk more than Ben :p

Favorite Incubus Songs:
Aqueous Transmission
Drive
Mexico
Sick Sad Little World
Agoraphobia (SP?)
Southern Girl
A Certain Shade Of Green
and last but not least: Are You In?

Deth 03-10-2005 08:28 AM

I can barely stand "are you in?" but to each his own.

Or southern girl for that matter.

Sleeper 03-10-2005 03:48 PM

Yeh i agree, Are you in is a lame song IMO. When i heard southern girl i liked it alot, Not one of my favorites on ACLOTM though.

I suggest listening to some more songs off Make Yourself and S.C.I.E.N.C.E, Your missing out!

Deth 03-11-2005 08:35 AM

You are! Go buy Make Yourself and S.C.I.E.N.C.E as soon as possible. If you like S.C.I.E.N.C.E, get Fungus Amungus, If not...somethings wrong with you.

Now for something completely different. I hope on their next album they put an instrumental on it like the Odyssey, because all the greatest bands make instrumentals and Incubus are great.

EDIT:Morning Views better than Make Yourself IMO. I didn't see that you didn't have it. Get that first.

Sleeper 03-11-2005 03:48 PM

I dont think i would enjoy a Incubus album with alot of instrumental, It would get old fast. The Odyssey was a one time thing, And thats what made it great.

Deth 03-11-2005 03:50 PM

Not full of instrumentals, just one good one. They could easily pull it off well.

BeaZ 03-12-2005 06:40 AM

I think Incubus have a unique sound, I like the use of dynamics and vocal harmonies. The bass player will be missed but i think the new one will do just fine.

Sleeper 03-12-2005 09:19 AM

What brand of guitar does Mike play, Is it fender?

clearvision 03-12-2005 09:38 AM

Paul Reed Smith methinks. Custom 22 if i remember correctly...

..but he uses a fender telecaster sometimes, depending on tuning i think.

munky_magik 03-12-2005 09:42 AM

He used to use PRS's but now he uses a Fender Jazzmaster(I think).
I know it's some variety of fender he mainly uses now.

Sleeper 03-12-2005 09:45 AM

Ok thanks, Ive always wanted to know. Its a very nice guitar IMO

munky_magik 03-12-2005 09:48 AM

This is his old setup which he used until ACLOTM. Now he uses some variety of Fender(as I said) and a Marshall Plexi head.

Sleeper 03-12-2005 10:09 AM

Thats a great pedal set up.

Deth 03-12-2005 02:47 PM

Yeah, it's a Jazzmaster though he used many recording ACLOTM.

Hat 03-12-2005 03:05 PM

I think he used a Les Paul for one of the songs on ACLOTM. Maybe Talk shows on mute? He uses a jazzmaster mainly now through a marshall plexi and a vox AC-30 i think. He uses a telecaster sometimes, too.

CiminoUM5 03-12-2005 03:11 PM
The last 3 albums were the best music they have ever written.
Gotta disagree with that. I still think SCIENCE is their best album, and no, I'm not one of the really old-school Incubus fans that hate their new stuff. I love ACLOTM and Make Yourself, but I think Morning View is probably their weakest overall effort.

IMO, about half the album is pretty **** good - Just a Phase, Under My Umbrella, and Aqueous Transmission are all fantastic and some of their best work. Circles, 11AM, Mexico, and Have You Ever are all solid too. But the rest of the album does nothing for me.....I think Warning is one of the worst songs they've ever done, Nice To Know You is too generic-sounding, if that makes any sense...I like the verses in Wish You Were Here, but I hate the chorus....Echo's terrible (minus the Asian-sounding solo), and Blood on the Ground is just forgettable.

Just my opinion, of course, but I just don't think it's even close to their best work.

I've got big hopes for the new album, that's for **** sure. I'm really hoping they say fvck pleasing their label and just go nuts. I want to see stuff along the lines of Sick, Sad Little World and The Odyssey....lots of jamming, excellent instrumental stuff.....I'm really interested to see what Ben does on the new album. Anyone who's seen him live knows that he was clearly holding back a bit on ACLOTM (normal for a new member). I'd love to see some dual guitar action w/him and Mike too...anyone who's heard his solo album knows why.

Deth 03-12-2005 03:12 PM

I'm just happy he's not using one guitar for everything anymore. *eyes his old PRS*

Janitor 03-12-2005 03:15 PM

He had multiple PRS's, they just all looked similar.

Deth 03-12-2005 03:28 PM

same deal.

On the topic of Warning (which we weren't) does anyone understand the video at all?

Alessandro 03-12-2005 04:19 PM

I think that in terms of guitar playing, Make Yourself and Morning View are not as insteresting as SCIENCE and ACLOTM. Even Mike himself said on an interview (sorry, can´t remember where I read this) that he felt bored as a guitarist, although he loved MY and MV because of the songwriting. The songwriting has improved a lot since MY. Don´t get me wrong, I love MY and MV, and so does Incubus, but I feel like not only the guitar performance has improved, but the band as a whole.

Sleeper 03-12-2005 05:54 PM
same deal.

I always hated that song and the video, But the video is pretty much about a girl crying out a warning and no one hearing her. Its not that hard to figure out

classicrockielzpfvh 03-13-2005 11:44 AM
I always hated that song and the video, But the video is pretty much about a girl crying out a warning and no one hearing her. Its not that hard to figure out
Seriously ... the song isn't horrible but it isn't Incubus' best song... i personally thought the music video was well done and Remedy is right about what its about cuz it is somewhat obvious
.... TtyaL ....

IvortheEngineDriver 03-13-2005 12:40 PM

When I saw Incubus in concert in Sept., Brandon, Ben and Jose did this 3 part Drum Solo...it was really bad ***! Do they do this in every show?

I don't know...to tell you the truth, I haven't listened enough of Incubus. I really like Morning View and Make Yourself, but they are the only ones I own. I have listened to the other ones, but I really like the songs on Morning View. More poppy of their albums, but its probably my favorite so far. Incubus is a band I haven't fully dived into yet, but they are something I have been meaning to get into.

Warning is a good song off the album, but again, I dont think its their best...I really liked the harmonies on it, to me, its the strongest and best part of the song. Lyrics in the verses are cool, I love the line "We'd make millions writing books on the way it should have been"

Sleeper 03-13-2005 01:02 PM

I always like it when Mike and Brandon do a chorus together or a parts of a verse. If you listen to the song Stellar you can hear Mike singing along with Brandon on the second verse.

*listens* Ahhh!

They harmonize really well anyway, I think their harmonies are one of Incubus' strong points

Janitor 03-13-2005 01:08 PM

I prefer when Ben and Brandon sing together.

Sleeper 03-13-2005 02:23 PM

I would like to know some songs that shows that.
