Okay, I have a couple more recommendations for you guys. Usually I've been recommending bands I have seen live over the past few weeks, but these bands have caught my attention even though I haven't seen them recently.
Bayside - Cool pop-punk band out of New York City. they are signed to Victory records and released a new self-titled album this past Tuesday. If you haven't heard them, I definately suggest checking them out. Veda - An indie band out of Kansas City, Missouri. They offer a different sound, because they have a female vocalist by the name of Kristen May. I hadn't heard of them until just recently, but they are actually pretty good. Similar to Paramore. I have albums from both bands, so if you are interested, let me know. Ath this point, YSI isn't working real well for me (because my file converter expired), but you can still get them off me using AIM (EmoScreamoPunk9), or Soulseek (user515). With Soulseek, message me and I will add you to my userlist so you can view my files. |
Kif's Sunday Recommendations!
My Awesome Compilation are my first recommendation. Their mixed style of Fall Out Boy's catchy melodies and Jimmy Eat World's heavier riffs, along with the British accent, has got them known a lot here in the UK. Their new album, Actions, provides lots of good fun songs with clever lyrics. Listen to "You Need Discipline" and "Gave You Everything" on their PV. I Am The Avalanche are up next, who some might know. After the massive Drive-Thru band The Movielife split, vocalist Brandon created this new lighter band. Their somewhat dark riffs and Brandon's matured writing style has won previous unsure Movielife fans over. Their self-titled debut is released in a month's time, and it's brilliant. Listen to "Dead And Gone" and "New Disaster" on their PV. The Juliana Theory have that skill of making catchy and original music. When combined with their impressive lyrics, TJT are a big name in the online music world. Their new release, Deadbeat Sweetheartbeat, is sure to be one of the end of the year's highlights. Listen to "Shotgun Serenade" and "The Final Song" on their PV. Excuse me for having to use a Myspace, but The New Amsterdams deserve to be up here no matter what. Side-project of The Get Up Kids' Matt Pryor, he creates some of the most beautiful lyricary and songwriting that could compete with others like Andrew McMahon and Max Bernis. He released the Killed Or Cured EP as a download only, containing 5 songs. Listen to "Drinking In The Afternoon" and "Strangled By The Thought" on his Myspace. EDIT: I'll try and upload all these full albums today, so listen to the songs and decide if you want them or not. |

Lovedrug - Alternative/Indie band out of Canton, Ohio. Some of the better musicians I've heard in a while.
Days Away - Talented Alternative/Indie band from Philidelphia, PA. Signed to Fueled By Ramen records. I'll try to upload albums from them in the YSI thread in a little while. /2000th Post :chug: |
Both brilliant bands Brain.

Kif's Sunday Recommendations
Socratic may be one of Drive-Thru's best new signings. Their unique style of music makes every song difficult to categorize, and their debut album Lunch For The Sky is certainly a journey in itself. Incorporating the best elements of pop and classic rock sensibilities, each song unfolds through vivid lyrics and perfect song arrangement. Listen to "Alexandria As Our Lens" and "Lunch For The Sky" on their PV. Rufio's arrival on the pop-punk scene in came in the form of the exciting Perhaps, I Suppose.... Their incredibly fast pace, technical and melodic pop-punk riffs and heartfelt lyrics made this one of the top albums of 2002. Now, 3 years on and after the release of their latest offering, The Comfort Of Home, Rufio have remastered undoubtedly their masterpiece, and included 5 exclusive demos. Listen to "Out Of Control" and "Mental Games" for a glimpse of this awesome band. Stretch Armstrong are that rarity in the scene today that combines hardcore roars and dark riffs, with the punky guitar work and beats that have seemed to be forgotten. Their new album, Free At Last, is said to be their best work yet, and it's got SAS's melodic rock and energetic force you won't find anywhere else. Listen to "The Sound Of Names Dropping" and "For The Record" and check them out. My American Heart are my last recommendation. They might not be the most original band around today, but their well written riffs and their infectious melodies make them one hell of a catchy band. Their debut, The Meaning Of Makeup, produced by Sal Villanueva (Taking Back Sunday, Thursday), is sure to get on everyone's stereos. Listen to "The Process" and "Don't Sleep" on their PV. Uploads are available to download here, so check them out :thumb: |
Nice job Kif. :chug:

Kif's Sunday Recommendations
I'm sure everyone has heard the news about YSI type links, and that they are banned from MX. What I might do is upload them to my alternate Gmail, and post the password in here. Sorry if this annoys anyone, but it's the best I can do without uploading through AIM all day, which slows my computer down so much. With Honor are a hardcore band, bringing back the older punk riffs and combining them with deep vocals and roaring melodies. They have toured hard over the past 2 years, and are releasing their debut for major indie label Victory Records, This Is Our Revenge later this year. Trust me when I say this band are awesome and will be big! Listen to "Like Trumpets" and "Gun For Hire" on their PV. Go Betty Go are my next recommendation. This all-girl pop-punk band pull out catchy hooks like many other bands can't, and their harsh riffs and fast beats make them one to look out for. Their debut album Nothing Is More is out now, and has been quite popular in the pop-punk scene. Check out "Son Mis Locur Valencia are 5 guys who make feel-good pop-punk songs. Think Hidden In Plain View, but with more variety and structure to their songs. Chirpy melodies and great vocals made them a hit on Purevolume, and their debut album This Could Be A Possibilty will surely get them noticed. Listen to "The Space Between" and "Eagle Mount Drive" on their PV. Let Go are my last recommendation. They have a heavy JEW sound, and an ability to combine lush lyrics with hard-hitting pop-punk melodies (Like JEW, then?). Their debut self-titled album is out next month, and has been praised by bands like Jack's Mannequin and Spitalfield. Listen to "Spotlights" and "Paper-Cuts" on their PV. NOTE: With Honor, much to my dismay, hasn't leaked. The rest of those though have, and I will try and upload them to my Gmail account as soon as I can. Meanwhile, check those bands out if they tickle your fancy. |
Alright I don't really use Gmail but I can figure it out.
|
megaupload ?
With honour are pretty cool. |
All YSI-type links are banned I think.

This weekend, I went to two concerts, and got to see a lot of cool bands. Here a couple of them that I would would definately recommend checking out:
Just Surrender - Pop-punk band out of New York. Their sound is a bit like that of Taking Back Sunday. Really cool live act, too. Paramore - Pop-punk band out of Tennesee. I saw them a couple months ago with Story of the Year, and I wasn't really into them. However, I got to see them again on Saturday, and they were pretty awesome. The Suicide Pact - Pop-punk band out of Pennsylvania. I saw them with the Starting Line in May, and they were okay, but their show was kind of boring. However, when I saw them again on Sunday, they were great. They had a lot of energy, and they put on a really good show. The Mile After - Pop-punk band out of North Carolina. Some parts of their songs sounded almost like a mix of country and pop-punk, although for the most part they were just a cool sounding pop-punk band. The Rival Sonata - Local band formerly know as Led Astray. This band is incredible. I saw them with Story of the Year a couple months ago, when they were still known as Led Astray, and it was intense. I had the pleasure of seeing them again last night, and they were even better. If you only check out one of these bands, make sure it's these guys. (Note: to find music, use the link to Led Astray, as The Rival Sonata purevolume currently contains no songs.) I also recommend Madison and Cute Is What We Aim For,who I have already mentioned before, as well as Day At The Fair and My American Heart, who have been recently recommended by Kif. |
Man, My American Heart look pretty gay
I quite like them though. |
Haha yeah. 4 people with stupid hair cuts and one Chinese guy at the back.
|
There are 3 chinese in the band aren't there thouhh ? |

The Forecast
Listen to them if you didn't see my thread. One Way Letter They have a really good female vocalist. Excellent band from what I've heard so far. Ludo Think The Aquabat's vocals with a synth pop band. I suck at writing descriptions. Just listen to the bands. |

Good bands, Spence. I'm not huge on Ludo, but I also don't like the Aquabats that much.
And don't worry, I can't write descriptions either. :p |
You wrote like 500 band blurbs though haha.
Haha, those were a little different. I took the time to look up info and write short biographys. A lot of the time for my recommendations, I have trouble describing how a band sounds. I just want people to check out my recommendations. More people might if I gave a more accurate desciption, but oh well. |
You forgot Melt Banana :(
They don't have a Purevolume or Myspace. :-/ |
I just downloaded a Melt Banana CD today. I haven't listened to it yet.
I also just thought of a band I meant to recommend: Secret Lives Of The Freemasons - Cool band out of North Carolina. I just downloaded their CD yesterday and it's really good. I had the chance to see them a couple weeks ago with Across Five Aprils, but I didn't know who they were at the time. Anyway, CHECK THEM OUT. |

Aw. Lmao just reading the name makes me giggle. Edit:
I just downloaded a Melt Banana CD today. I haven't listened to it yet. Haha, I just started listening to Across Five Aprils about a month ago. They're great. I really wish I would have gone to that show now. Oh well, that's the first show I've "missed" in a while.

I've been listening to them for almost 6 months I think. I got them from one of the first posts in this thread. |

Agreed. A Tragedy In Process is awesome. |

I don't know if this is the right place but can anyone point me to some bands which have a similar style to sum 41?
|
Recommendation:
Waking Ashland - Awesome band out of San Diego, California. I've had the pleasure of seeing them live twice. The first time they were good, but nothing special. I saw them again on Thursday, and it was incredible. They played an acoustic set, and it was really great. I've never seen an entirely acoustic set before, but these guys pulled it off excellently. I also got to see JamisonParker. They were really good, although they only played a couple of songs that I really knew. They still put on a good show, and are a great band on CD. I have an LP and an EP from each band, so if you are interested, hit me up on AIM (EmoScreamoPunk9). |
JamisonParker is soooo good.

Kif's Sunday Recommendations:
Gatbsy's American Dream have always been seperated from the standard pop-punk style of today. Yet they have always been appreciated by fans of the music, for their ability to pull out anthemic tracks one after the next. Their April release Volcano is still getting plays on my media player, and it's no thanks to songs like "A Mind Of Metal And Wheels" and "Shhhhhh! I'm Listening To Reason", both available on their Purevolume. Their unauthodox style of writing (With few chorus', many melodic layers in one song and irregular time signatures and style switching) is surely the reason I love this band. Seriously, listen to "A Mind Of Metal And Wheels" and try and resist that urge to dance along to it's Latin vibe. Check this band out NOW! Straylight Run have been getting some listens from me after the release of their new EP, Prepare To Be Wrong. If you get a chance to listen to it, be prepared to be wrong indeed. It almost feels like Straylight went Digital Ash In A Digital Urn (Bright Eyes) on us. But tracks like "Hands In The Sky (Big Shot)" and "It Never Gets Easier" (Formerly named "Costello", and unreleased bonus track from their album) remind us of why we love this band in the first place. I apologize for the lack of new material on their Purevolume (Or Myspace for that matter). If I was allowed, I'd upload it. Ludo are the shit! Seriously, this is some fantastic "rock opera" material. The melodies are weird and not typical for nowadays sounds, the lyrics are eerie and dark, telling an epic story, and the vocals are great and fit the band well. Their success will only get bigger with the release of their new album, Broken Bride, which boasts ingenius styles and genre-switches. Listen to "Part 1: Broken Bride" and "Save Our City" for a taste of this magnificent band. Boys Night Out certainly deserve a lot of credit for their latest release, Trainwreck. It's a tale of The Patient, our protagonist who, after murdering his wife in his sleep, seeks to create the song stuck in his mind created by medication, prescribed in the first place to fill the "holes" and loneliness following the murder. Their blend of awkward timings and fantastic melodies, and of course those weird and beautiful lyrics, have made Trainwreck easily one of my favourite albums of the year. Listen to "Medicating" and "Composing", and be in for an amazing surprise. Panic! At The Disco will not stop being whored by me until everyone here loves them. Their infectious mix of Fall Out Boy style melodies, tongue-in-cheek yet never cheesy lyrics, and ability to experiment and bring electronic and world music feeling to their songs means they are never a dull moment. Their debut album, A Fever You Can't Sweat Out, is getting massive praise and huge anticipation from fans, and the fact that they are teasing me with their Purevolume isn't funny either! Check out "Camisado" and "The Only Difference Between Martyrdom And Suicide Is Press Coverage" for this wonderful band. |
Kif's... erm... Monday Recommendations
Yikes, this is a little late. I'm not going to lie to you guys. Nearly everything I have been listening to all week involves the words "Panic! At The Disco". But never fear, they shall not be mentioned in this weeks recommendations (I've done my whoring). Project 86 are a post-hardcore (God I hate that phrase) band from Orange County, and their blend of aggressive bursts of hardcore music blended with soft breakdowns and sometimes more gentle instruments like pianos has got them noticed on Purevolume. Their new album, ...And The Rest Will Follow, is a devilish record. You can listen to it in it's entirety on their Purevolume, but I suggest listening to "The Hand, The Furnace, The Straight Face" and "Necktie Remedy". HORSE The fucking Band! Legends of the synth-based hardcore, and dubbed "Nintendo-core" punkers, HORSE The Band release their second effort, The Mechanical Hand, in October. All I can say is WOW! Their writing style has matured somewhat, and although they have sacrificed a little of their harsher sound for more melody, they are still awesome. Listen to "Birdo" and "The Black Hole" on their PV. KT Tunstall is a somewhat odd choice for recommendations, but she is a great up-and-coming musician. Some UK MXers might know, she was nominated for the prestegious Mercury Music Prize for her debut album Eye To The Telescope. Her blend of folk instruments, alternative melodies and memorable lyrics have gotten her name out in the UK. Listen to "Other Side Of The World" and "Black Horse And The Cherry Tree (Live at the Mercury Music Prize)" (I saw her performance, it was amazing) on her Myspace. Sorry there aren't as many today, afformentioned reasons have been provided |

Not sure when it's out (Or if it is out yet or not), but it was advertised on the frontpage for Purevolume so I checked it out. |

Interesting. I'll give it a listen later. They're playing at the same venue mine is a week after we do, that's cool, I hope I can go :-D |
Can someone recommend me some bands that sound similar in vocals to underoath. I'm like the screaming and am looking for more bands similar to this.
If we aren't supposed to be asking for recommendations, tell me, then I'll delete this post. |
