Idyll 01-12-2005 07:40 PM

Iai i tend to agree with you on most things and you seem like a reasonable bloke so whats wrong with the Libertines? And if its a cool or drugs thing then well thats fair enough but im about as cool as michael jackson and Pete Doherty is an idiot. Albeit a bloody talented idiot.

"Billy the Mountain" is the name of the tune, from the album Just Another Band From L.A..

YDload 01-12-2005 08:37 PM

I've finally got the opportunity to listen to "Double Nickels on the Dime." I must say, it's a really great album, and it can only grow on me further. It's also the only album I have that's on Zappa's list of favorites (so far).

Iai 01-13-2005 04:43 AM

I find Doubles Nickels On The Dime quite hard to listen to in full. But it's great in short bursts.

Pete Doherty and Carl Barat can't sing, nor can they play guitar. Their bassist can't play bass, their drummer can't drum, the lyrics are generally terrible, what occasional good lyrics they have are blatant sops to The Smiths and The Jam, the melodies are basic at best and horribly annoying at worst.

To top this all off, they've disguised their awful music with a web of tabloid sensationalism. The media has made such an effort to make everyone think they're great because they've realised that pop-indie is becoming big again and they're desperate for a martyr. They want a Kurt Cobain, a John Lennon, a 2Pac - somebody who's going to die tragically and summarize the entire movement they were part of by their own death. Pete Doherty got arbitrarily chosen because he looks like an unwashed anorexic ragdoll.

I heard Is This It? before they were media sensationalized from a friend who worked in a record store. I thought they were very catchy and that it was a great album from the start. I think many people fall in the same boat. The media pushes alot of music, but a fan is still going to listen to what they like even if it is something that is pushed.

Wow. You need to listen to more music.

Idyll 01-14-2005 06:55 PM

Listen to up the bracket and the libertines album 5 times each and i bet you will think differently. I dont understand the idea that they cant play guitar cos TG say their tunes shine through but their guitar playing is shambolic well it doesnt seem shambolic to me it sounds expressive. Its not like they play bum notes or go out of time.
I will do a top ten cd of all time someday but it might be more. So yeah i love the libertines, they have fantastic tunes. I listened to cant stand me now about 50 times on repeat when i bought the album, just perfect.
