im getting into nofx, so..what do u recommend of their albums to start with?
Well, So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes probably impressed me the most when I got it. I absolutely loved it, still do really. Heavy Petting Zoo if you like the poppier, slowier stuff - still good though! Punk In Drublic is a very strong album too. Probably get that first up I guess. |
el hefe is probably the best musician in nofx, even though mike writes the lyrics hefe knows his music stuf.
The entire band is overrated, musically. Fat Mike plays some cool bass lines, smelly is one of the coolest drummers around. He's incredibly tight. Melvin kind of sucks, but hefe's incredible, esp with the trumpet. |
NOFX is going on tour this spring with Lawrence Arms and some other Fat Wreck band...was this mentioned already?
|
Sweet. I didn't know about that.
Tour dates? They had better be coming to Indy. |

Scroll down half a page. No tour dates yet tho.. |
When you say they sucked, do you mean the music? I've heard they're hilarious during they're shows. I probably wouldn't even pay attention to the music ;)
I've always wanted to see them live because of their humor.
I said the timing and guitars were bad..... And they were not funny AT ALL! It was so fkin cheesy. They kept saying we love this city for 25 min. Then at the end they were like, what city is this?.... it was lame. |
NOFX are f'ucking hilarious live, and although they do make mistakes it doesn't take anything away from the show
|
im hanging 4 nofx 2 come down under. they havnt been out here 4 ages its not fair and it makes me want to cry
|
Exactly. When they were here in Aus in '02 (Jan + Feb!) they said they'd be back in '04... '06 at the earliest now. :upset:
|
If they don't come here, I'm gonna be mighty angry.
|
They are the last of my favourite bands that I haven't seen live (well, save for Rage Against The Machine, of course). I MUST see them soon! And I really hope they don't play the Big Day Out again, 55 minute sets do not do justice to such a great band!
|
BDO is lame anyways. Such a rip-off.
|
Couldn't agree more. 2003 was the only year worth going, and the only year I've been. Foo Fighters, Frenzal Rhomb, The Living End and Millencolin. On top of that, Queens of the Stone Age, Jimmy Eat World, Jebediah, The Music, and others I've forgotten. That was worth $95 for sure. The line-ups since then have been worth a lot less than $100!
|
Next year's line up is basically the 10 most over-rated bands in the world plus ten other bands that I've never heard before.
|
NOFX are so much fun live, i feel insanely satisfied to have seen them twice and i want to see them a lot more.
How big are The Living End in Aus? The only band i haven't seen out of my favs are the Descendents |
Yeah I wouldn't mind seeing Descendents either.
The Living End are reasonably large, they get mainstream radio play, and most everyone who knows anything about music will have heard of them, and most likely have heard/know their song Prisoner of Society. To be honest, I think they were bigger in the late 90s, and ever since Chris had his terrible car accident they kinda aren't as popular now. But they are still quite popular. Definitely one of the bigger Aussie rock bands, behind Jet and Powderfinger, probably as popular as Grinspoon (although the Grinners keep getting more and more pop all the time). So maybe in the top 5 most popular current Aussie rock bands here in Aus. |
The band I sawlast night covered Bob, and I went insane.
|
i dont like bob that much. i just dont think its very good. the rancid cover is good though. in fact i think all the rancid covers from the BYO split are great. i love matt's variations/riffs on stickin in my eye
|
I think The Decline is the best song they have done.

its an absolute epic, this one song defines nofx completely |
I can play The Decline on bass all the way through.
Or I used to be able to. I haven't played it in about a month. But for one week over the summer, I sat at my computer and looked at the tabs and played it probably 5-6 times a day just trying to memorize it. |

no its not plagurizing(sp) because the goal was to find exisisting work not make your own. we were graded on facial expressions and s.hit. |
Yeah I've learnt it on bass several times. It is very hard to not play it for a month or two and then remember it all, straight away. But it is great to play it the whole way through when you've memorised it! Nailing 18 minutes of the best Punk Rock ever is a good feeling.

I have decided that whenever I am in a band, the first song we will play together will be the Brews. |
