good list of stuff. although i think Venom would lump into the black metal category as well. there is lots of great thrash out there, and still out there, thats why i love it so.

That's one thing I've never agree'd upon. Venom may have coined the term ''black metal,'' but they are far from it. Sure they sang about Satan and Hell and vampires, etc. but their musical styling was nothing like what black metal became. The black metal bands that came later used the lyrical content and added blast beats and other such noise to the music. Although similar to thrash, it clearly isn't.

PS - I still say Impaled Nazarene are more black metal than thrash.

Which is why I hate ye. :naughty:

RetiredAt21 08-06-2005 01:46 PM

I agree with J about the Venom thing, they coined the term black metal, but that was it, their music wasn't black metal at all.

So are any of ye bastards going to go see the Accused at those Save CBGBs shows? I think they're playing 2 nights. I'ma just catch the live feed at the cbgb's site.

RetiredAt21 08-11-2005 10:47 PM

CBGB's is too far of a drive for me to go.

evildemonlemurs 08-11-2005 10:52 PM

wow, i didn,t know the accused were back together.
anyways, i am a huge thrash and crossover fan, as the two genres are the things i listen to most along with punk and power metal. my favorite band ever is DRI, and im glad this thread happened. most of the bands i have heard of and are great. Cryptic Slaughter i think are really cool because they managed to not only do the crossover of punk and metal, but they threw in some grindcore and made it more extreme than most music. somebody mentioned Hexenhaus, and i just found out about them. they're a really good swedish prog-thrash band led by Mike Wead, who is now in Mercyful Fate.
oh yeah, when my band gets some recording done i will post a link to some on here because we are pretty much melodic crossover. we started off as a mediocre hardcore punk band, but we changed some members and i moved back from texas to nashville, so we have become basically that. its more melodic than any crossover due to my influence from power metal and melodic death metal, and my own style of guitar playing. you'll have to hear it to really understand, but so far it sounds really good. our bassist is being dumb. our name is the cripple beaters, but he doesn't like it, but i refuse to change it unless we find a better name, which its hard to top a name like that. so yeah, thats my story.

Awesome, but yeah, the Accused are back together, splatter and all, released a 4 way split, Louder Than Hell!, with Municipal Waste, Hirax, and Voetsek, and they just released their new album, Oh Martha. It's damn good, ye should pick it up if ye see it.

Be sure to post some links when y'all have some recording done.

Feel The Darkness 09-03-2005 01:59 PM

Indeed they do, they do thrash good.

Oh, and I finally managed playing Nuclear Assault's "Nuclear War" (http://mxtabs.net/tabs.php?path=Bass,n,15043,Nuclear+Assault,Nuclear+War,126327) on bass, without my arm dying on me.

RetiredAt21 09-03-2005 02:37 PM

How long have you been playing bass for?

Feel The Darkness 09-03-2005 02:57 PM
How long have you been playing bass for?
On and off for near 3 years. My bass kept busting with time, and I bullshitted my way through fixing it, haha. It's so jacked up, I really need a new one. I've never been the most dedicated musician, though I've been meanign to start playing alot more. I'm off to a good start.

RetiredAt21 09-03-2005 04:22 PM

I've been playing guitar for about 3 years. I'm pretty good. We should start an internet thrash band. I'll make up a riff, send it to you, and then you play bass over it. It'd be awesome.

I like it, even if there are no vocals. One of my favourite bass players was in this band.

Sounds good, just send em to me through AIM (J Atomic 84) and we'll go from there. I can do the sound editing if required. Who'll drum for it though?

I like it, it'd be better with vocals, but it's still good. I'll add em to the list just for shits.

RetiredAt21 09-03-2005 08:41 PM

I'm not sure who will play drums. I'm sure someone on these forums would wanna do it.

Feel The Darkness 09-03-2005 09:14 PM

Dig it.

Found a little gem on MySpace:

They rule.

RetiredAt21 09-03-2005 10:16 PM

These guys are even better than that Brazilian band. These guys are fantastic.
