No, it was from when the band's tour bus crashed on the road. Patrick apparently wrote a lot of the songs under a cork tree
this is from www.falloutboyrock.com under the biography section:
When he was a little boy, Fall Out Boy bassist and lyricist Pete Wentz enjoyed reading “Curious George,” “Babar” and Richard Scarry books, but his favorite children’s book was “The Story of Ferdinand” by Munro Leaf. The story, about a giant bull who sits under a cork tree and smells flowers instead of getting into the ring and battling a bullfighter, was so inspirational to Wentz that he titled the band’s breakthrough record From Under the Cork Tree.

Nope, I have never heard anything from then until now.
so i am guessing you like green day?? their awesome

James_666 07-20-2005 02:11 AM

I dislike FOB because I feel there lyrics are beating a dead horse (though better than most pop punk), and I think that the guitar, bass, and drumming is very boring, repetitive, and lacks inspiration.

But I am a rocker/metalhead just visiting other forums for the h e l l of it.

Drum Boy 07-20-2005 04:21 AM

Well that was kinda pointless, if it isn't your kind of music then your probably not going to like it! But i don't agree with you about the repetiveness!

Gnarmageddon 07-20-2005 07:48 AM

w00t. I'm going to see FOB today. :D

Divine_Enemy 07-20-2005 08:35 AM

Great FA. I don't think it could have been done better. I've been an FOB fan for a few years since I heard a little comp thing with them on it that I snagged outside of a concert. I haven't been able to see them live because when they come to Philly, it sells out so flippin fast that it's nuts. I have a ton of their live vids on my computer so it's like I've seen them live. They were on Fuse's 7th Avenue Drop a few weeks ago and that was awesome. If anyone saw that, they know how cool it was.

Drum Boy 07-20-2005 01:31 PM

Whats Fuse's 7th?

Drum Boy 07-20-2005 03:33 PM

Why was Kif banned?

Kif 07-20-2005 03:44 PM

Because I posted a see-thru boob shot of Jessica Alba, which apparently constitutes as a nude

2 month ban, which is lucky since the sentence (Haha) is perm ban

Drum Boy 07-20-2005 04:12 PM

Lol, thats kind of a stupid reason! And how come your allowed make a new account?
I hate you! :p
They weren't that great. I didn't realize they were playing, so i got there about 3/4 of the way through their set. They kind of sucked. :-/

Tjebby 07-20-2005 08:31 PM
They weren't that great. I didn't realize they were playing, so i got there about 3/4 of the way through their set. They kind of sucked. :-/
I see. Doesn't suprise me though.

Drum Boy 07-21-2005 06:01 AM

Why doesn't it surprise you? You expect them to perform badly live?

Kif 07-21-2005 06:11 AM

Honestly, I know they suck live. I've got severla live songs from them and Patrick's singing is quite bad. I think it's because in the studio he doesn't play and sing at the same time, so he focus' more on singing.

Doesn't make me not want to see them though

Drum Boy 07-21-2005 06:32 AM

Oh, well, thats kinda put me off! I'd still love to see them live, but to me, half the bands work is writing the songs and recording them, the other half is delivering a good performance! Ah well, not like they'll be coming here anytime soon!

Tjebby 07-21-2005 07:04 AM

It doesn't suprise me, becuase i wouldnt expect them to play cd quality. In the studio, they all focus on one thing... playing your instrument... minus patrick. When your on stage, you have to play for the crowd, so you focus on them. And besides, who hits all the notes every time.

drummerchick88 07-21-2005 08:31 AM

I LOVE FALL OUT BOY. I bought take this to your grave and listen to it every day its such a good cd and such a good band and whoever hasn't checked them out should

Giving Away Warped Tour Tix

What's up guys…I just found this contest for Lazer Tag where you can win a trip to Warped Tour including hotel and everything; I was at warped tour in Pomona and it was really cool. You'll also have the opportunity to play Lazer Tag against Fall Out Boy which would be kinda crazy. Check it out: http://reg.hasbro.com/lazertag/wt05/Registration.aspx?linkID=lazertag140

hey, you're not cory! 07-21-2005 03:30 PM

I saw them at Warped yesterday and they were really good. I made my way really close which made the experience better. They had a lot of energy. You couldn't hear Patrick very well but they played well and all the stage antics made up for it. During "Saturday" the guy from Gym Class Heroes came out and screamed in it. It was "kewl".

Drum Boy 07-21-2005 04:45 PM

Wow, your so god **** lucky! Sounds cool, i like energy driven bands live!
Fall Out Boy

Fall Out Boy is:
Patrick Stump - Vocals, Guitar
Peter Wentz - Bass
Andrew Hurley - Drums
Joseph Trohman - Guitar

Fall Out Boy have quickly risen from playing garages and clubs in Chicago to places all around America and Europe. Their blend of beautifully crafted hooks, fast beats and tongue-in-cheek lyrics have gotten them to where they are now; a part of Island Records roster.

The band appeared on the scene no shorter than 4 years ago in 2001, when they made a 3 song demo. These 3 songs were enough to catch the eye of label Uprising Records, and in 2002, the band made a split EP with Project Rocket.

It wasnt until Janurary 2003 that the band made their first full length record, Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend. The 3 songs on the demos were redone, and put together with 6 more hard-hitting and raw pop-punk songs, including the now famous "Honorable Mention" and "Pretty In Punk".

Touring for this CD was quick, as major pop-punk label Fueled By Ramen Records were eager to sign the band. The label were allowed an advance from Island Records to let the band record their debut for FBR.

So in May 2003, 4 months after they recorded their first LP, Fall Out Boy headed to the studio again to record what some say is the best record of 2003. Take This To Your Grave was unleashed on the world May 6th, 2003. Jam-packed with 12 chirpy pop-punk anthems like "Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy?", "Saturday" and "Chicago Is So Two Years Ago" (An obvious play on their former choice of venue for the band), the album featured more polished sounds without losing the momentum the band prevously had.

The band played 280 gigs in 2003, supporting both records released that year. Of course, it wasn't just this that go them their fanbase they have now. Touring with bands like Less Than Jake, Rufio, All American Rejects, Yellowcard and more got them noticed, and the band just 2 years old headlined the Radiotakeover “Back to School Tour” in August and September.

And how did Fall Out Boy bring in the new year? They signed with major label Island Records. That's right, in one year, all this drama went on for the band, and they managed to get a deal with one of the biggest major labels in the world, sporting bands like cKy, Sum 41, Thrice and Thursday.

2004 saw Fall Out Boy in the studio again, this time recording an acoustic EP which was tenetively entitled My Heart Will Always Be On The B-Side Of My Tongue. 4 new acoustic songs (1 of these would later feature on their Island Records album debut) and 1 acoustic version of "Grand Theft Autumn/Where Is Your Boy?", and a DVD included with the pack, left fans begging for more.

The band toured hard in 2004, heading across the pond to Europe and toured with huge bands such as Blink-182. The band also headlined the “Believers Never Die” tour over summer, quickly followed by a slot on the Warped Tour. It was at the end of the year the band headed back to the studio to record their first album in 2 years; From Under The Cork Tree.

The title came from when the band's tour van crashed, and apparently Patrick wrote a bunch of the songs on this album from under a cork tree while waiting for help. The album sounds completely perfect in sound quality, losing some of it's raw feel previous albums had. But this is quickly made up by the fact that FOB never lost their gift for making superb pop-punk songs. Newer riffs were tried out on this record, and Patrick's vocals sound tremendous. Songs like "Dance, Dance", the previously acoustic "Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner" and "I Slept With Someone In Fall Out Boy And All I Got Was This Stupid Song Written About Me" really prove how matured Fall Out Boy are, yet how they never lost their touch with the music.

As if this wasn't enough, the band have decided to remaster their first 2 albums. TTTYG was remastered back in January, retitled Take This To Your Grave: The Director's Cut (And included 2 extra tracks. Roxanne, a Police cover, and a remix of Grand Theft Autum/Where Is Your Boy), and FOBEWYG was remastered last month in May, and retitled as Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Grlfriend: The 2nd Date Remix.

And as for the band, they are busy touring and promoting the new album. They have toured with FBR new kids on the block Gym Class Heroes and The Academy Is..., and have toured with Silverstein as well. The band have appeared on television sets all around the world on such programs like The Conan O' Brian Show and TRL (Beating off The White Stripes in the video chart). Hell, they recently took over KROCK2 radio for an hour and got to pick their own playlist. They decided to play the whole of their new album, something only the cockiest and funniest band could get away with!

It may have only taken 4 years for Fall Out Boy to get into iPods of pop-punk fans everywhere, but they were 4 long years filled with studio time, touring and promotions. They have never taken themselves too seriously, something I think has helped them get to where they are. Yet they have always expressed their hate for the decline of the pop-punk and "emo" scene, and have done their part to get kids to not follow the scene (One demo for the new album was called "I Like You A Whole Lot More Before You Were A Fucking Myspace Whore")

My thoughts exactly.

Oh by the way...
I saw Fall Out Boy on Thursday at Warped... Oh my god, it was orgasmic. Justin from Motion City came and sang and then Ray from MCR played bass while Pete was in the crowd.
Oh man, it was amazing.

Mute Print 07-23-2005 02:44 PM

Wow! I'm planning on seeing Fall Out Boy at the Warped Tour when I go. I hope they do something like that at my stop. It's always cool when members from other bands make special appearances.

Wow, the same thing happened at my stop the day before. Only it was the rapper from Gym Class Heroes who came and screamed at the end of "Saturday". I don't know who the guy Pete gave his bass to was though.

Looooove FOB to pieces, great FA. :)

Favourites would have to be "Tell That Mick...", "Grand Theft Autumn..." and "sophomore Slump..."

Yeah, that's the song that they did it with... Saturday. It was their last song and everyone just went totally crazy.

I actually thought they were wonderful live. I mean they had so much energy. The vocals weren't terrible either. And it's not like I couldn't hear Patrick because I could and he was wonderful as always.
