The middle riff in Black City, Black Fire just SLAYS.
\m/:evil:\m/ I wonder when their next album will hit. |
Nice work RCA. I shouldn't download, but I'll get Black City, Black Fire purely because I want more stuff by this lot. :thumb:
|
Phoenix Rising is a killer album, I'd recommend any metal fan buying that but then again the only other D666 recording I have is Terror Abraxas which i bought soon after it was released. "I Am the Wargod" off Phoenix Rising is an awesome track, they make that double kick sound so much better than other bands do, except perhaps Death.

Wolfmother
Location: Sydney, Australia Band Members: Andrew Stockdale - guitar & vocals Myles Heskett - drums Chris Ross - bass & keys Formed: 2003 (but jammed on and off before that) Label: Modular Recordings Biography: It's like Black Sabbath and Zeppelin put together. Shamelessly taking and recreating music from the past. A celebration of love for the music. Wolfmother is a 3-piece rock'n'roll band from the abyss that are going to make you peer inside your brain and howl at the moon. From Dimension's military, thundering drums, roaring axe intro and stunning melody, to Woman's showcase of vocalist and guitarist Andrew Stockdale's shivery holler, right through to the chugging riffs and sludgy breakdown of Apple Tree and the freaked out psyche of The White Unicorn. It is basically psychedelia/hard rock/stoner rock. Contrary to the rest of the songs on the EP which were written and recorded just this year, the first radio track, Woman, was born around 4 years ago as a slow jam funk number, Earth, Wind & Fire-style, with slower, sing/speak vocals. To hear it now it couldn't be further removed, apart from the base, primal lyrics about said woman. The song's doesn't require a lot of analysis, being more of a stream of consciousness lyrical splurge over a groove and the kind of riffs that shake your foundations. We may be experiencing the rebirth of the power trio. Nice post Ulysses. These guys are pretty awesome, although I do have to been in a particular mood to listen to them. A lot of people I know really like them, and would say they are one of Australias best musical acts in years. I also believe Slipknot are big fans of them as well. :p
Here's some Uploads Apple Tree Woman Dimension The White Unicorn |
I'm planning to see them at Homebake. I do like music reminiscent of the late 60's/early 70's. Generally my favourite period regarding musical output and I believe, in a sense Wolfmother are bringing it back, maybe not in virtuosity but in those hard and driving riffs and trippy segments.

Sick fellow Aussie awake at quarter to 6 in the morning :thumb:
I guess I'll have to check out Wolfmother soon. |

I totally agree with this statement. It is interesting to hear the sounds of the 60's/70's in modern times, and they sure as hell are doing a much better job than Jet at bringing back older styles of music. |
Powderfinger! Powderfinger! Powderfinger!
I'm quite stunned to see that they haven't even earned a mention on this thread yet considering they are one of the most repected Oz bands ever. For the uninitiated (you should be initiated), here's a quick run through... Bernard Fanning – Vocals Darren Middleton – Guitar Ian Haug – Guitar John Collins – Bass Jon Coghill – Drums Established in Brisbane in the early 90’s, they made a few sub-par EP’s which lead to their dark debut album ‘Parables for Wooden Ears’. This had a real Soundgarden vibe (though, not as good) and because of it’s lack of catchy tunes, sold by the handful. The follow-up album ‘Double Allergic’ is what saw them hit the big time, with such classic songs as “Pick You Up” and “d.a.f” (which was named after the chord progression). This saw them receive plenty of radio air-play, with many touting them as the “next big thing” of Oz rock. Their third outing ‘Internationalist’ confirmed this. Far lighter and more “indie” than previous records, it blew away the charts and won six Australian Record Industry Awards including ‘best single’ (for “Day You Come”) and the almighty ‘album of the year’. Many believed “Internationalist” couldn’t be topped. But in 2000 they proved their talent with one of their most subdued (and arguably best) albums. ‘Odyssey Number Five’ is a work of genius that was home to such hits as “Waiting for the Sun” (their best song IMO), “Like a Dog”, “These Days”, “My Kinda Scene”, “Thrilloilogy” and the most noted song – “My Happiness”, which also won ‘best single’. This album also won the ARIA for ‘album of the year’. After extensive worldwide touring, the band decided to tackle the next album with an entirely different approach – to drop the pop-rock sound and feed themselves on a diet of classic blues and “rock’n’soul” and created their loudest record ‘Vulture Street’ – which was inspired by acts from Led Zeppelin to Leadbelly. This album was also a critical success and completed their ‘album of the year’ hat-trick, beating off the evil Delta Goodrem to take the prize. They’ve gone on a break now, but you’d do well to seriously check them out. Best songs are: Waiting for the Sun Passenger Pick You Up Day You Come These Days The list is endless……. I’m not a computer wizard, so I don’t know exactly how to “upload” stuff. Their site should set you straight though. http://www.powderfinger.com I hope this works!!! |
i don't know why i didn't think of powderfinger, really well done anyway.

Yeah, I'd love to see a full scale late 60's and early 70's revival, that period offers so much in the way of experimentation, largely due to new studio equipment, onstage jamming and a general awesome vibe that swept England, especially London and the San Francisco areas particularly but also in Europe and other parts of the states. It would probably become a parody of something great that has been and gone but still with a lack of originality and new ideas but it sounds good in theory. |
Finally, we are still waiting for the re-release of Resurrection, and the last I heard of the band, they had suffered yet another line up change, and a lack of funds. However, true commitement showed through on Tims part, and he sold numerous guitars to help fund an overseas tour (unconfirmed romour).
Hey, cheers for the plug! Gotta love site stats that show links from sites, hey? ;) Just wanted to clarify a couple of things here... Resurrection is now out in Australia and selling great - the first pressing sold out in about 2 weeks, which is awesome. LMP will be getting it out this year sometime with new cover art and a limited edition version with a bonus track and a video clip. Stu was the guy who sold the guitars (he has like 40 of the bastards - I think he needs help! HAHA!), I sold a ****load of my vinyls (*sob*) and tracked down investors and sponsors for the tour. In a couple of weeks, we raised $23,000... not so bad... although the tour ended up costing us over $60,000 all up! :amaze: Gotta love those lineup changes hey? There is a full band right now and has been since February when we added Glenn Williams (bass) and Tim Yatras (drums). These guys did the Angra / Nightwish / Megadeth Aus tours with us and did the Euro tour with Megadeth with us. Hopefully this will stay the lineup longer than the last one (that was like 4 months or so? *sigh*) Cheers to all that said nice things about us on here! :) |
I actaully have a friend who's band is touring in Newcastle and i personally think their great. Their called Castro and their site is www.castroband.com . Just curious as to what other people think of them. Their songs are in the mp3 section and their best are probably slave, beautiful sins, 1986, not today etc...Their style probably fits in with just grunge/rock so yeah check it out its pretty good for a band that have been together no more than 1 year.

sorry for the little girly post but...
OH my God...Lord Tim! *cough* sorry...*clearsthroat* |
Ha Ha Dungeon rules. I didn't know Tim posted on here too.
|
HAHA! I didn't know about this place until today thanx to our site stats showing that we were linked from here... But it seems pretty cool, so I'll likely hang around until someone tells me to **** off! :p HAHA!
|
You a cricket fan Tim?
:p |
^ Silence!! :upset:
Anyway, it's very cool to see you here Tim, and thanks for the corrections. I was going to attempt to list every member Dungeon had ever had, and the period of time they spent with the group, but it was all too much. Whenever the next Aussie tour for you guys is coming up, be sure to let us all know. I was pretty bummed when I found out MftB was 18+. Also, I hope you don't mind about me sharing a little of your music, with the intention that someone will buy the album after hearing it. :) |
Nah, it's cool considering we know that within 2 days of any release (including my solo album) it was up on P2P and freely being shared. At least by doing it like this people are checking it out and being referred to the Dungeon site.
Listing every member change has been attempted by a few sites now with various degrees of success! HAHA! There's been a few now! But I guess you have to expect that when the band is 16 years old! You must be talking about the Brisbane M4TB, yeah? The Canberra one was all ages. We're working on a Brisbane gig now - keep an eye on the Dungeon NEWS/GIGS page for updates on that. :) And Slave To The Dark - about the only sports I get into is (oddly enough) Australian Pro Wrestling and V8 Supercars, but even then I haven't had much of a chance to follow either - busy as hell! |

That's right. I'll keep my eyes open. |
Any chance of a show or two over in England Tim?
maybe at Bloodstock or 13th day festivals next year? (these if you don't know are two great Power Metal festivals over here, Children of Bodom headlined Bloodstock this year and Sonata Arctica headlined 13th Day or maybe even Download (more mainstream but still fun) |
There was a possible chance of some UK shows on the tour this year but they didn't eventuate (much like the US/Canadian shows). We'll do our best to get over next year when we do Europe/Japan again.
Hey, we should take this to another thread so we don't pollute this one too much with Dungeon crap! :p HAHA! Back on topic, folks! :) |

Well, here's the Power metal thread, for dungeon crap :p been discussed in there before and becuase Dungeon are such a mix of styles, we decided to call them PM and place in there |
Windchase
Location: Sydney, Australia Formed: 1976 Genre: Symphonic Progressive Rock Members: Blight, Doug - Drums; Carberry, Ross Cooper, Ralph - Drums Ledger, Peter Millo, Mario - Guitars, Mandolin, Vocals McGuire, Duncan - BassNethercote, Doug - 1976 Pilt, Tovio - Moog, Mellotron, Piano, Hammond Stevens, Gerry Those are the various members that seemed to come and go over a period of two years, from 1976 - 77. Review When Sebastian Hardie disbanded after their second album, Mario Millo and Toivo Pilt quickly formed a new band, and named it after Sebastian Hardie's last album. Windchase released only the album "Symphinity", but it's a very solid and enjoyable work of typical 70's symphonic progressive rock that most fans of the genre will enjoy. The sound is a bit more upbeat and the mood more varied than what it was in Sebastian Hardie. The album opens with the atmospheric piano tones of "Forward We Ride" that glides into the excellent "Horsemen to Symphinity". The sound is clearly a bit late 70's here, but not bad at all. Toivo uses his synths in a floating and very symphonic way. The charming and cheerful "Glad to be Alive" features real strings and an irresistible chorus. The instrumental "Gypsy" has the strong melodic themes that the last Sebastian Hardie album seemed to miss sometimes, and stands actually as one of my favourites here. "No Scruples" is just as typical symphonic progressive rock as it possibly can get. Complex and grandiose with numerous Moog/guitar solos and juicy Hammond riffs. "Lamb's Fry" opens with the sounds of a frying pan, and is essentially a long and energetic jam where Millo and Toivo duels from start to finish. The short, acoustic instrumental "Non Siamo Perfetti" combines the melody of "Rosanna" from Sebastian Hardie's debut with one of the themes from "Windchase". The closer "Flight Call" is slightly more lightweight than most of the album, but still quite nice and enjoyable. Discography: Glad to Be Alive 77 Symphinity 77 Flight Call 77 Website: http://www.mariomillo.com I cannot find an mp3 of these guys, for free anyway. I have searched the world wide web and come back empty handed, apart from only a few samples from one such website that didn't work anyway. I am interested in progressive rock and especially as this band is Australian and with a sound supposedly modelled on that of Camel, Yes, and Focus, it is of great intrigue to me. Before a few weeks ago completely unknown to me as ironicaly there doesn't seem to be any of their records in Australia. I am considering buying their "Symphinity" album off amazon at Amazon.com - Windchase - Symphinity but will wait and buy in bulk when I get some more cashola, which shouldn't be too soon. Then I will make some of their tracks available. ;) |
The Getaway plan
They've got a 6 track demo selling at shows and they were just on the Destroy Music tour with I killed the prom queen and Behind crimson eyes. Really good song writing for some 19 year olds. www.myspace.com/thegetawayplanrock www.thegetawayplan.com |
