Heres a list of bands i'm diggin' currently.

Fall of Troy
Pretty Girls Make Graves
At the Drive in
Trail of Dead

Basically music that is mostly guitar driven. So recommend me indie with some sweet *** guitar!

Happymeal 12-14-2005 05:49 PM

^You might like The International Noise Conspiracy and Sleater-Kinney, and possibly Built to Spill.

I feel like I am whoring this out for suggestions.

Anywayz, I am compiling a mixtape for a boy I am dating for Christmas, and I'm having some trouble finding some songs that work around my theme that he hasn't already heard. The list so far:

Caribou - Pelican Narrows
Air - Alone in Kyoto
Efterklang - Prey and Predator
Alex Drosen - Untitled #6
Jaga Jazzist - Kitty Wu
Dirty Three - Hope
Explosions in the Sky - The Only Moment We Were Alone
Do Make Say Think - (undecided)

I would like the overall theme to be soft and innocent and pretty and sensual, but also intricate, whether it be guitar, synths, piano, whatevz. I would also sort of like intricate percussion aswell, but it's not necessary. Gracias.

tekniqz 12-23-2005 01:49 AM

I think some Mew would fit that list fine.

robot 12-23-2005 09:36 AM

I need something new. I listen to alot of Animal Collective, Xiu Xiu, BSS, M83, that sort of stuff. Help a brotha out.

Clunge 12-23-2005 09:50 AM

I'm always on an endless musical quest.

Shoot me with some stuff that resembles Oceansize or Amplifier. Really any post-rock stuff really that has vocals.

3rdplanet 12-23-2005 05:49 PM

You could try Redjetson, although I don't think they are any where near as good as Oceansize, they are that post-rock with vocals kinda thingy.

For M83, Efterklang. They share alot in common with M83, and use lots of electronic futuristic blips with organic strings and they are amazing.
For BSS, I would check out Apostle of Hustle, Do Make Say Think, Feist, Metric, and Stars. The first four have members in BSS, and Stars are from Canada and are on the same label as Boken Social Scene, I believe.
The only real comparison to Animal Collective I can think of are Oh No! Oh My! (formerly known as the Jolly Rogers.) http://www.thejollyrogers.org, but you've probably already been subjected to their constant whoring. They are worth it though.

M83 and Efterklang both might suit your needs. They both are synth based and very beautiful and good at capturing emotions. Efterklang alternates between a male and female singer, and both of them are good, while M83 just has a boy singer and uses some dialogues, too. You really can't go wrong with either Efterklang release, and the same for M83, although Red Cities would be my favorite.

mmmm, whoring Efterklang. My task for the day is finished.

tekniqz 12-30-2005 11:13 PM

Recommend me bands in the same vein as Cursive.

Happymeal 12-30-2005 11:48 PM

If you want something like The Ugly Organ, you'd dig Murder by Death.

OrbDragon 12-31-2005 02:40 AM
Jaga Jazzist - Kitty Wu
Good pick.

And don't feel shame for whoring bands...like me!

OrbDragon 12-31-2005 02:41 AM

Anything Murder By Death is actually miles and miles better than The Ugly Organ, so that's a good recommendation.

RHCPaddict 12-31-2005 07:17 PM

You have to listen to John Frusciante. He's a effing genius. He plays guitar with a Godly passion and he's damn dedicated. He practices 10-15 hours/day. He rocks like nobody's buisness. Check him out. Go buy all his album;s cause they will blow you away.

Also listen to the Manic Street Preachers, and The Mars Volta. And I'm not sure if they belong in this category, but the Snake River Conspiracy.

bmxrunner 12-31-2005 10:52 PM

ecently ive been into tegan and sara. theyre canadian twins that play folk/pop/rock. very catchy and original music

I think you may be my long-lost musical brother. Seriuzly.

Chiefette 01-02-2006 11:20 AM

One band I'm pushing right now are The Rakes. More english than you can shake a stick at but they are well worth a listen to their debut album Capture/Release.

Romeo A GoGo 01-02-2006 08:14 PM

Sorry if a few have been covered already, but I'm just looking to expand my library.

Opeth and Tool are sick bands you might like them or already know them

Midnight 01-03-2006 06:28 AM

First thing - I'm looking for classics. Good stuff, expansive, you know.

Second things - Also, some new kind of post-rock stuff like Interpol / Bloc Party.

Third things - emotional stuff like Grace by Buckley. That'd be great. Thanks.

I think Muse is straight up your alley.

marcusthecat 01-03-2006 09:29 PM

I'm looking for some bands that kind of have the pavement sound (the band)

Jeff Buckley = Damien Rice, Thomas Dybdahl

Also, Interpol and Bloc Party aren't post-rock. Post-Rock usually is just nice, instrumental stuff. If you like Interpol, though, you will probably dig Joy Division and Minus the Bear.

Midnight 01-03-2006 11:02 PM

thanks

the strokes are post rock right?

btw recommend me some stuff that is new, and isn't trying so hard to be indie that they use accordians. stuff with good vocals.

infact, recommend me stuff from whenever that has good vocals

Wanker 01-03-2006 11:17 PM

Sorry guy, but nope.

Okay, so no Arcade Fire. Hit up Wolf Parade for the indie and Sigur Ros for the post rock.

p.s. almost all post rock is devoid of vocals except for Sigur Ros and maybe a couple other bands. Some use field recordings though. *shrugs*

Otherside 01-03-2006 11:20 PM

Anything similair to Wilco, YHF specifically?
