Manic Street Preachers - Mausoleum (4:12)

Starts out with a tremolo effect on the guitar, then drums come in, then the bass. The guitar has a very simple rhythm. Three notes. Lyrics come in at 0:12. The singer's voice is kind of odd, but I like it in a way. Chorus comes in at 0:43. The singer sounds like he's rambling. He sings fast and it sounds like he doesn't take one breath. He's saying stuff over and over again. Another verse comes in after the chorus. Then the chorus again. Blah blah blah, it's basically the same as the last verse. Another chorus, which I like a lot. It's very catchy. Then a bridge thingy. A guy saying "I wanted to make it rub its face in its own vomit." Hmmm...Interesting. That's nice. A short outro thing, and then it's done. I didn't like this song too much, but it had a nice chorus. 5/10.

Glassjaw - The Gillette Calvacade of Sports (5:56)

I have been meaning to listen to more Glassjaw, from the small amount I have heard they seemed like a top notch band but as you do I forgot/am too lazy to take another listen, but here we are. From the start it sounds like we are in for quite an
interesting song, then about 13 seconds into the song the vocals come in. The vocals don't really do much for me until the song comes to life about a minute in. The rest of the song switches between soft melodies and heavy coruses although not quite what I expected. About 3:20 through the vocalist turns in some crazy talking backed up by some solid bass. Not really my thang, but still worth a listen.

Johnny Cash - The Man Comes Around (4:26)

Not the first time I've heard this song. It was in the remake of Dawn of the Dead. :thumb: It starts out with Cash talking. Then an acoustic guitar comes in. Johnny Cash's voice sounds like he's so ancient, but yet so badass at the same time. There's a piano playing low notes in the background when "When the man, comes around" is sung, along with another acoustic. The song itself seems very emotional, but at the same time it's not. It's one of those songs that when you first hear it, you have to stop and listen to it and sit down and kind of think about it. There are a few more verses and choruses, then at the end the talking that was going on continues about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

A VERY good song. I'm not a huge Johnny Cash fan, but I love this song. 9/10.

Poison The Well - The Realist
I've heard great things about this band, although this is the first song I've heard, so I was expecting a lot out of it. It starts out with a distorted bass intro, quite chilling actually and leaves you anticipating what's coming up next. It then builds up into the full band playing, and vocals being sung over the top. The chord structure is a little dark, sounds kinda cool. I really love the vocals too, I like singers who can scream as well, but choose to sing a lot more.

The breakdown is a great addition to the song. A little break from the darker side of the song, and it gets very cheery actually and slow. The song then goes back to the verse. Great transition from each of the 2 sections as well, nothing bad about how it goes form verse to chorus to verse.

Second breakdown is a lot faster and keeps with the loudness of the song. The vocalist screams most of it while the guitarist plays a fast riff and the drummer plays harder and faser. A really amazing addition to the verse, something to add more energy. It then goes back to the chorus, and gradually fades out. I think the fade out lasts way too long to be honest, but that's a minor glitch

Overall, and amazing song, and I would definately want to hear more from this band. The song has both fast and slow moments without losing the energy, the music is fantastically written and the vocals are perfect bothing screaming and singing.

9/10

I'll add my songs up a bit later

Scary Kids Scaring Kids - The City Sleeps In Flames (4:00)

Starts out with a slow buildup of feedback. Then the drums and guitar kick in. Vocals come in at 0:29. The singer's voice reminds me a lot of Geoff Rickley of Thursday. The singer has a pretty good scream in the chorus. At about 1:23, the guitar comes in with a pretty cool run. At about 2:20, there's a slower breakdown type thing. I really like the guitars in this song, and the drums are respectable too. I suck at writing these reviews and I can't think of anything creative to say. The song is alright. I pointed out most of the things that I liked, but the singer sounding similar to Geoff Rickley kind of turns me away from the band. It's a good song, but not what I was expecting. 6/10.

Guns N Roses - Shadow Of Your Love (2:43)

Starts out with Axl yelling "Wake up! It's time to play!" and then goes right into a fast guitar riff. The song is very fast, and it almost sounds punk. Definitely not what I was expecting this song to be. It has the same nanananananananana thing that's in Welcome To The Jungle. Axl's vocals are pretty fast, and the chorus consists of him yelling "In the shadow of your love" x4. A guitar solo comes in at about 1:45. Pretty good. Then straight back into the lyrics. It's a pretty good song. Very different from other GNR that I've heard. Axl's vocals somewhat turn me away from the band as I can't stand them. 7/10.

Picks coming momentarily.
