Dirk has a much better style. Plus he was the bassist when incubus was still "incubus" with there funk and cool rhymes.
I still dont understand why people are clinging on too the old Incubus. I mean yes Dirk was a great bassist, for the hundreth time. When dirk left im glad that they got a new bassist and decided to make new music. ALOTM is there best album they have ever done musically, Even though it took less time to record it from there previous albums. But please, I dont think Incubus wants there fans to be moping about Dirk leaving. If that was the case they would of stopped making music.
The other half is saying a sucky band rocks after hearing their only "good" song and infact even that song sucked... unfortunately like Gilmour said
wait what?

It's because it was unique and fun and awesome. It was all lighthearted about aliens and stuff. I think people just want something thats not about love and crap.

Plus, the old owns the new.......easily.

clearvision 03-04-2005 09:32 AM
I've only heard one of their songs, so I was as justified in what I said as he was.
I haven't heard one slipknot song wiht bad vocals.

I think Incubus peaked with morning view, ACLOTM is sometimes boring and Science maybe a bit to varied...And make yourself was the build up to morning view :p

Txus 03-04-2005 03:11 PM

i prefered old incubus like iin fungus amungus and science and even make yourself was a great album but after that they got all wrong!

Sleeper 03-04-2005 03:14 PM

So your saying Morning View is not a good album, Which was there best selling album.

Alessandro 03-04-2005 03:47 PM

I just don´t get why people tend to bash Ben as a bassist. I mean, before Dirk left the band, his basslines were far from "funky", check out Morning View (which is a great album IMO) and you´ll know what I mean. Maybe the Are You In? basslines are the closest from funk, but still, it can´t be compared to Fungus or SCIENCE. The direction that Incubus was taking with Dirk is pretty similar to the direction that they´re taking now with Ben, although there is difference between them, of course. I love Mike´s guitar work on ACLOTM, he´s back to soloing, so this is great. He is also writing some pretty cool riffs. That´s the way Incubus is, they´re always experimenting something new, since Fungus to ACLOTM, and that´s what makes each album refreshing.

Right on

clearvision 03-04-2005 04:19 PM

Meh I agree on the Bass side o things, but i think ACLOTM is pretty mediocre, there are a couple of good songs but it doesn't grab me as incubus. I listen to incubus for the funk, for brandon's oo's and mikes cool drop D riffs. ACLOTM is too standard for INcubus.

lunch998 03-04-2005 04:32 PM

I find it really bland and generic(ACLOTM).

Deth 03-04-2005 06:21 PM

alright, time for the order of the albums:
1.S.C.I.E.N.C.E.
2.Fungus Amungus
3.Morning View
4.A Crow Left of the Murder
5.Make Yourself

not that make yourself is bad, just not as good IMO.

BlindWriting 03-04-2005 06:24 PM

For some reason, I just really can't imagine why people dislike ACLOTM so much. I think it was one of the best rock/alternative albums of the year, and each member is so amazing on it.
Oh well.

madthumbs 03-04-2005 06:26 PM

Ben Kenney is an amazing bass player. I didn't like ACLOTM much. DOn't know why, just didn't appeal to me. I've liked all there other albums.

Sick Sad Little World was orgasmic, and the live, eleven minute long rendition of it is stunning. I would love to see them live.

Deth 03-04-2005 09:42 PM

I had a chance to see them live, but I had money for one concert, so I chose Metallica and I don't regret it a bit.

I love Incubus,my fav band of all! time i got into them cause i loved the sound similar to Faith No more, mikey is a awesome guitarist.
ive got all the albums and love them all just as much but funkyness of S.C.I.E.N.
C.E was awesome and i dont think that ben will play that style,
i never liked ACLOTM but it grew on me Talk Shows On Mute acoustic on that DVD that comes with it is mint! the albums full of cool solos and good basslines
i just dont think where used to seeing Ben in the group yet not till a few more albums come out,
my fav solo is on Deep Inside

i luv all there songs!

dw_bass 03-04-2005 10:17 PM
OK, I hate Dirk/Ben comparisons.

Both men have different styles. You'll notice that NOTHING on ACLOTM sounds like anything prior towards it. Plus, Ben Kenney could easily play circles around Dirk. We're not looking at who's funkier - it's just that Ben is an overall better musician than Dirk. If you need convincing - watch the new Alive at Red Rocks DVD.
He|| yeah man!!!!!!!!

Alot of people i have talked to about ACLOTM, Say that Sick Sad Little World is one of the overated songs on the album. People seem to think Priceless is the best song on ACLOTM. I love Priceless alot, But Sick Sad Little World is way better for instrumental then Priceless.

Yeh Mikey started doing solos again on ALOTM, The solos on Fungus Amongus are excellent (even though thats not a favorite album of mine).

AimlessDave 03-05-2005 12:08 AM

I love the soloing on Sick Sad Little World and Priceless.

clearvision 03-05-2005 05:52 AM

Agoraphobia is the best song on ACLOTM :)

The Flabbit Rides High 03-05-2005 06:37 AM

What do you guys think of the new songs Follow and Monuments&Memories?

IMO, some of their best songs!

Deth 03-06-2005 02:06 PM

Haven't heard either.

Sleeper 03-06-2005 02:09 PM

I believe those are the songs from a band that came out before the Incubus we are talking about. There have been people in this thread that talk about them alot, I dont know why since were talking about the current band Incubus.

Deth 03-06-2005 02:17 PM

yeah. All you have to do is look at a couple of posts in here to realize who we're talking about. Unless you're stupid.

*monuments and melodies

I like both, but I don't like follow as much. The solo in Monuments is pretty nice. It reminds me of a few of Tom morello's solos, like on Take the Power Back.

Yppolitia 03-06-2005 02:29 PM

I like Incubus all the way through, I like there old and new stuff. I think their guitarist is quite under rated. I like Wish You Were Here, Drive, Are You In and Beware Criminal.

clearvision 03-06-2005 02:33 PM

Lol i haven't heard of monuments + memories....but follow is the 1st movement od the odessy(i cannot spell that word :(). The project incubus did for halo 2.

Deth 03-06-2005 02:35 PM

I haven't heard the Oddsey (can't spell either) because I'm not buying a stupid video game soundtrack.
