Tire me, Snakecharmer, War Within a Breath, Voice of the Voiceless...

Thor 12-23-2004 12:01 PM

No Shelter is great on the Live at the Grand Olympic Auditorium DVD. I reccomend that any RATM fan should go and get that.

Urbanjeffery 12-23-2004 12:04 PM

slighty related what does everyone think of the songs, "the darkness" and "the name of the game" which isnt actually rage but its got good old tom playing one of his funk a#s riffs? its on the credits for the first splinter cell xbox game. if not i really recom mend listening to both of them. also i have no idea why "the darkness" was never on a cd, maybe cut from an album? like 2we gotta better bomb" by audioslave. which i might add is one hell of a tune.

NuGgEt123 12-23-2004 12:08 PM

Darkness is on the soundtrack to The Crow...Name of the Game has some pretty sick guitarmanship, but the song is pretty meh IMO.

Spoonman 12-23-2004 12:36 PM

A very original group, one of my favorite bands of the recent past. :thumb:
What do you guys make of De La Rocha as a lyricist? Personally, I'd rate him as being right up there with some of the very best, and a lot of people who don't like him view him as being an incoherent ranter. But, if you look at his lyrics properly, there's actually quite a lot there, beyond him mindlessly blaming the government and institutions for everything.
Yeah, I like his lyrics. They're not excellent, but they are very good. I like him as a frontman in general, though, because of his style and delivery as much as his actual lyrics. His voice always made me pay attention, as well as being able to rap well enough to be memorable.

I'll have to second that, minus the "not excellent" part. Zack can write some sick stuff, and deliver it live without screwing it up or missing a word. He also has a great stage presence. Anyone else agree?

BassStabbed 12-23-2004 03:10 PM

Ive never really gotten into rage, they have a good bassist though.

Darkness 12-23-2004 03:48 PM

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...

Guys its Zack not Zach...

Anyway what do you guys think of song "Revolution" by RATM and TOOL? I think it was incredible, but needed to be touched up and remastered but it was a great skeleton of a song...thoughts?

Thor 12-23-2004 03:55 PM

If you think the bassist is good, check out Morello. He is "beast".

For what it is, it's pretty good.

munky_magik 12-23-2004 06:01 PM

I think Tool should do some kind of Side project with Morello. They were great friends growing up, so it could happen

*wishes*

IAJP 12-23-2004 06:21 PM

I only have the first two RATM albums,
they both kick heavy arse though :thumb:

Morello built Tool, Maynard met Adam through Tom. Adam and Tom had a high school band called Electric sheep, and Maynard was a roommate or neigbour to Tom.

munky_magik 12-23-2004 08:00 PM

This isn't news to me, I was just saying that they should do something together now as I think the results would be pretty interesting.

DUUUUDE you definetly want to check out Battle of LA. You wont regret it.

shortass 12-23-2004 08:39 PM

Is their live album any good?

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-23-2004 08:44 PM

Does anybody happen to have all their tracks that are not on their albums? If so, could you list them, so I can download them on soulseek.

munky_magik 12-23-2004 09:31 PM
Is their live album any good?
their Live album is good, but I'd say that the dvd is better. You get extra stuff with it and get to see them perform which is a much better deal IMO

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-23-2004 10:29 PM

I typed in "Tom Morello" in soulseek, and I started DLing random stuff. One is called "One Man Army" with Morello and Prodigy(whoever the hell that is..)

Also I checked out a cover of Kashmir and the file name said it was Puff Daddy, Jimmy Page, and Tom Morello. What do you guys know about this? Doesn't sound like Morello to me...

Apocalyptic Raids 12-23-2004 10:39 PM

tom morello played bass on that kashmir cover, uncredited.

Dr. Jake Destructo 12-23-2004 10:47 PM

I knew it wasn't him on guitar. What cheap bastards. I surprisingly like the cover, however.

Plus you get the Washington D.C. Riot....

Curlylocks 12-24-2004 01:52 AM

Fav album s/t

fav song Take the power back

superfascist 12-24-2004 02:22 AM

I like Zacks lyrics. Especially the way that he tells a story on "Maria" about the immigrant who came to America to escape her old country only to do grueling work in a sewing factory... or something to that effect. It's really spine-chilling when you think about it enough.

superdigg 12-24-2004 02:24 AM

i love the self titled album, yeah, RATM is pretty good IMO. i like Morello's guitarwork, it may not be the most talented but i think it's pretty creative and unique in small ways.

superfascist 12-24-2004 02:38 AM
it may not be the most talented but i think it's pretty creative and unique in small ways.
Isn't talent being able to make something unique and creative that people like or is talent simply the ability to mindlessly run scales up and down the frets as fast as humanly possible despite the fact that it may sound like musical gibberish?

DekWannaBFlea 12-24-2004 03:40 AM

I like morello because he doesn't confine himself to the penatonic for solos, or traditional ways of soloing. He uses various effects and "tools" to make creative ways in which to solo. Now this may seem like he isn't "Techinically" good(picking, fingering etc.) that is a misconception. Take Know your enemy for example, he shreds the hell out of the solo and it sounds badass. Talk about a unqiue diverse guitarist.

superdigg 12-24-2004 04:25 AM

good point, superfascist. i guess the word i was looking for was 'skill', or something. you know what i mean, just technical skill.
