PDWAB, Is there any way I can get my old account back? I got banned...I promise to only post productive posts from now on.

/cries

PDWAB 11-09-2004 03:22 PM

What did you get banned for? It might only be temporary.

Jas 11-09-2004 04:04 PM

Joel, can you re-open the ska emo thread thing so I can tell Jared that the Google web definition is wrong because it says ska is derived from reggae? Come on man, this thread hasn't nearly run it's course yet, I'm sure the threadstarter is just as ignorant now as he was in the first place.

Yeah, I was about to comment on that, because ska came before reggae. The pop punkers of this forum need to be educated!!! Plus, lots of us listen to ska, so its not like its irrelevant or off topic. I mean, punk with a brass section!!!!! wtf, come on :(

PDWAB 11-09-2004 05:16 PM

Meh, I dunno, that thread will just be arguing. I think I'm gonna put up my definitions in the rules thread right now though, and any comments you'd like to make just put them here.

chips88 11-09-2004 07:16 PM

Hey Joel, can I make an official Saves the Day thread? There isn't one, and they deserve one. Even though I think me and Chris are the only ones who think they are the greatest ever :upset: But yes, there should be one, and I request permission to make one.

Well, that's the point, there should be more. or maybe not, I don't know. Andy, you have filled me with self-doubt

Saves the Day hating=neg rep points

PDWAB 11-10-2004 12:38 AM

You can make a Saves the Day thread, but don't bother putting "official" because we really don't need one.

i want to know, can a band that is punk be pop punk on the soul reason that they are popular? i thought part of being pop punk was being popular, hencing the word pop. i know a band can be pop punk because of the poppier side added to it but doesnt being popular have anything to do with it?

Captain Jack Sparrow 11-10-2004 02:30 AM

Popularity has nothing to do with the term pop-punk. Pop-punk is simply put, punk with poppier lyrics. A lot of bands that get filed as pop-punk actually aren't technically pop-punk at all. Real pop-punk is very strongly connected to the punk scene.

Mellophobia_90 11-10-2004 02:45 AM

thanx for your advice but im still waiting for a mod to answer it. because i swore i read it some where that being popular has some thing to do with it. and thats where i got the idea from. thanx anyway though

Captain Jack Sparrow 11-10-2004 02:46 AM

No problem, and the mods will tell you the same thing. I've been here for over a year so I've seen all the discussions and taken part in more than a few.

El_Shiznit 11-10-2004 10:49 AM
Though pop punk belongs in another forum this needs to be clarified. There are 2 forms of pop punk. Pop punk, and popular punk. Pop punk is Ramones, Descendents, some Nofx and Bouncing Souls and Greenday. This is defined by a bouncy sound and carefree, happy or funny lyrics. It is not mainstream.

Popular punk is blink 182, NFG, Greenday, Good Charlotte. You can just as easily read this as pop rock or power pop. The punk means they were influenced by punk but typically they reperesent no true punk ideals. They are mainstream and dont care. They may sound like the bands above. But they are part of the only thing punk is not supposed to be part of. The mainstream.

You will notice that Greenday is in both categories. They started as pop punk and became popular punk because they became popular.
This is taken from the rules in the punk forum.

PDWAB 11-10-2004 11:29 AM
This is taken from the rules in the punk forum.
That sounds about right, even though I still consider Blink 182 and New Found Glory pop-punk.

Bottom line: You don't have to be popular to be pop-punk.

I don't know why I was banned. I tryed to log in yesterday and it said I wasn't allowed access. Me and one of my friends were joking around in the rock and metal section one day. I wasn't poking fun of it I didn't think but somebody disagreed with one of my posts....Can you get banned for that though? Lots of people were doing the same thing in my BFS threade and I don't think they were banned. How do I know if it's only temp.?
:chug: /we gets new smillies

~TomDelonge182~ 11-10-2004 12:13 PM
I know...SFK banned you for a post in the Official Tool Thread. I don't know what it said, as he edited it, but if you were messing around in the Tool thread, then you were almost certain to get banned, seeing as how he lives in there pretty much.
Ohhh...Know I wasn't joking around I posted that Tool is gay and that is no lie they are i'm not talking about there music because it's great the bands great the people in the band are homosexual no joke i've got a tool DVD were they say so their selfs.

Kif 11-10-2004 12:19 PM

What's your point? The band is gay, big whoop. Lots of people in bands are gay or bi, doesn't mean I have to post about it everytime I get the chance

Hey I don't know if we could do this, but is there any chance this forum can get renamed to the "Pop-Punk & Emo" forum? People talk about emo in here like it is pop-punk, and I think it deserves some recognition on the forums. And there's a "Alternative & Indie" and a " Jazz & Funk" forum, so why not?

I thought they would know already and not get so pissed off about it. The oonly reason I even posted in that forum was because one of my friends was in there.

~TomDelonge182~ 11-10-2004 12:29 PM
Something you've got to bear in mind with Tool is that a lot of what they say about themselves is utter crap, as if in not even approaching true. They just do it as part of their "think for yourself" philosophy. But anyway, this really isn't the place for this...

*agrees with Kif's idea*, although there's a really good emo thread in other music. I think it should be part of this forum though for what it's worth.
Well, I tried apologizing in the thread so maybe he'll accept it.

Emo and pop-punk is basicly the same thing so sounds like you got a good plan and just need someone to put it to action. :chug:

PDWAB 11-10-2004 01:32 PM

Yeah I go pretty easy on everybody in here, but keep in mind other mods in other forums might run things differently.

Personally I don't see that big of a deal about the forum title. Emo is kind of with ska in the fact there's a few places to talk about it on the site but not really once centralized place, and I think that's kind of cool.

SocoAmarettoLime70x7 11-10-2004 03:38 PM

you should probably close the current "official GC thread" on page one, just for the safety of the threadstarter.

PDWAB 11-10-2004 05:17 PM

Haha, oh man.

cbmartinez 11-10-2004 05:24 PM

No one talks about emo in here. Putting emo in the forum name would bring more of the ignorant kids that believe Yellowcard are the most emo band ever.

chips88 11-10-2004 05:27 PM
No one talks about emo in here. Putting emo in the forum name would bring more of the ignorant kids that believe Yellowcard are the most emo band ever.
Yeah, true. Cause we all talk about different stuff anyways, like metalcore and hardcore etc. Emo would just bring in Dashboard kids, and we would have endless discussions over what emo really is, and fourfa would be everywhere, and it would be madness. But it would also let us fine tune our flaming skills :smash:

cbmartinez 11-10-2004 05:29 PM

Let them go to the punk forum.

leking 11-10-2004 06:43 PM
No one talks about emo in here. Putting emo in the forum name would bring more of the ignorant kids that believe Yellowcard are the most emo band ever.
Not only that but you would start to see a lot of "Emo Sux!!!!" threads in here. I come in this part of the forums a lot more now because it is "cleaner" per se than the punk forum I used to be in all the time. And the fact that I like pop-punk almost equally. I just think if emo was in the title, for the first month at least, Rock & Metal kids would come over and blatantly bash emo and flood this place with anti-emo threads. Then a lot of new people to the forum would come in and do the same. Things just wouldn't be the same.

Mellophobia_90 11-10-2004 11:25 PM

thanx for that but but can a punk band be called pop punk if they are popular?

Mellophobia_90 11-10-2004 11:26 PM

do they talk about emo and screamo punk in the punk forum? or do they hate that type of stuff?
