Thanks Spiral. I downloaded a couple Stratovarius tracks and I'm defiantly picking up a CD at the next opportunity.

ExitWound 06-10-2004 02:34 PM

Gamma Ray is high on my list. After getting a listen to Kai's voice on some older Blind Guardian tracks, I started digging and found Gamma Ray. This was just after PowerPlant's release I believe. I have a few concerts of theirs that I downloaded aswell. If you ever get to see Kai on stage, just look at him as a person up there. He's in heaven, riding the sky on eagle's wings. He is meant to be on stage performing and you can see it in his shows. That's a true musician through and through.

Rata Blanca is by far the greatest band from Latin America (they're from Argentina) I've ever heard. Their guitarist, Walter Giardino is simply GOD. Viva Rata Blanca.

I despise Mago de Oz though...

could i find audio files of them on Kazaa or do they already have some on their website?

Skeksis 06-11-2004 02:01 AM

Rata Blanca? Kazaa would be best. Look for "La Leyenda del Hada y El Mago" (Amazing solo) and "Corte PorteƱo".

a8o 06-11-2004 03:16 AM

How about Rage? They're considered power metal right? I've been listening to their 2003 release "Soundchaser" for only a couple of weeks now and I must say apart from boasting incredible musicianship, it has some **** catchy choruses.

Much reccomendded.

RideTheSpiral 06-12-2004 10:05 PM

They're German right? I haven't heard anything by them.

Why do you despise Mago De Oz?

And yeah Rata Blanca's guitarrist is amazing (like i stated before :p), he takes a lot after Yngwie. Hell he even uses the Yngwie strat. Anyway yeah they are amazing.

*Listens to Poder Vivo*

RideTheSpiral 06-12-2004 10:36 PM

I don't think I've ever heard any Central American Power Metal. :(

sensitiveorgan00 06-13-2004 10:16 AM

Teh video for Dream Evil's "The Book of Heavy Metal" is posted online now.

 This video is ownage. :thumb:

ExitWound 06-13-2004 10:36 AM

About time!! It's included on the CD as well. Snowy Shaw is incredible (drummer).

The new disc is incredibly different from Dragonslayer, but close to what Evilized sounds like. It's almost all in 4/4 and very much like something AC/DC would have done if they were any good. The Book of Heavy Metal, the track, is unlike most on the disc. It's definitely the slowest and heaviest on the new disc. I'll be doing a CD Review for this site later on today.

Snowy writes most of the music on the album as well. He plays and writes the guitar parts as well. The DVD is really sweet when you see him on the guitar only to be followed by his own matching drum parts. I think it sounds good becuase he can do this and there is no conflict of interest in the instruments and how the players use them.

Toozey 06-13-2004 12:29 PM

Ensiferum is high quality power metal, anyone listen to them?

WetNoodle 06-15-2004 11:32 PM

Man what is this doing in the 7th page!!

Shame on you people ,shame!!!!

OK.....Rata Blanca Rulzz.....but why do you have to hate Mago De Oz.....they are great.....and the songwriting is the best....but i prefer Saratoga than Mago De Oz.....thats like Judas Priest(Painkiller)thats a great band i recomend to all of you....oh they are from spain....

The Preacher 06-15-2004 11:45 PM
Now that EW mentions them, any Gamma Ray fans here?

Alot of bands mentioned are great, But have any of you heard:

Mago De Oz
Ankhara
Avalanch
Rata Blanca (Amazing guitarrist)

Those are some great bands, im pretty sure no one here has heard of em though .:upset:
nice bands you mentioned there....they are all favorites,,,specially Avalanch....the make a cover of I Want Out of helloween thats great..

The Preacher 06-15-2004 11:58 PM

And what about Blind Guardian....the band kicks major *** !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!one of the best out there....Gamma Ray... i'm the #1 fan i and love the Godfather Of power metal...Kai Hansen

Skeksis 06-16-2004 12:54 AM

I hate Mago de Oz mainly because the singer's voice annoys me, every song has the same crappy violin intro and the songs themselves don't seem to convey a melodic line pretty well. The guitarist just does standard recycled rock crap. Sorry but I just don't like them.

Would you people say that "Symphony X" is Power Metal?

conspiracy_rocker3 06-16-2004 01:47 AM

I Would Consider Symphony X Power Metal but they have more of a prog feel than most other PM bands.

Skeksis 06-16-2004 11:58 AM

They call themselves Progressive Metal. They sound Power Metal though...

The Preacher 06-16-2004 12:59 PM

symphony x is progressive power metal..........oh and one of the best thing that Mago De Oz has IS the violin

JMetallica 06-17-2004 07:22 AM

Speaking of progressive power metal, I'm sure everyone just loves Fates Warning :D.

I picked up The Spectre Within the other day, and i have to admit is one of the highest quality albums i have ever bought. And for 1985 it pretty much annihilates everything else in the genre, and most things around outside of the genre, too. :p

sensitiveorgan00 06-17-2004 10:58 AM

I have a copy of Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction now. \m/ This album kills.

WARFARE \m/

ExitWound 06-17-2004 04:27 PM

Older Jag Panzer from waaaaaaaay back just plain rocks.

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-01-2004 02:35 AM

IM BACK YOU FOOLS!!! hahaha

^^^^

yes Exit i aggree, i want to hear their new album as much as any other fan but i do fear it will follow their downward spiral.

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-01-2004 02:36 AM

yes Kai Hansen is incredible, but ExitWound im sure loves him even more lol. Im more of a Helloween fan than i am Gamma Ray or Iron Savior, even the years he wasnt present im very into. Just enchanting music!!

RideTheSpiral 07-01-2004 02:42 AM

Frail I thought you'd left us forever!

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-01-2004 02:56 AM

i never left, i was given the boot by some selfish mod!! haha, thats all in the past now though...i am here again to talk about Elvish Cape-bearing power metal to the utmost degree!!! i got some Nightwish on now to celebrate :thumb: you know i would never leave you guys!!!

RideTheSpiral 07-01-2004 03:03 AM

Yeah I got banned a while ago too.

I haven't bought a CD in a few weeks because I've been unemployed but things are looking up I've just got a new job. Money to squander on CDs again!

Suggestions please. :D

FrailandBedazzled1979 07-01-2004 03:06 AM

well, i do have a suggestion...you ever tried the band Heavenly? if not try their album "sign of winter" its preety fun stuff :)

RideTheSpiral 07-01-2004 03:15 AM

/me writes on list.

I think I've actually hit a dead end with my Power Metal buying. I'm just gunna go through and buy all the CDs I don't have by bands I like.
