Cain 06-22-2005 09:12 PM
I'm pretty sure that that thread was doomed from the start. However, I keep checking back because your posts are very helpful. That thread made me realize that I don't know anything that I could play for an informal audience. So I'm learning "Midnight" now. :p
It takes practice, but on the whole it was much less difficult than it appears.

On the other hand, I'm a fingerstyle player, so maybe that was it. :-/

Thanks for the compliments on my posting, I just wish more of these people listen. They're all missing the point of playing for girls, and for audiences. You impress by loving performing, not loving impressing.

Steerpike 06-22-2005 09:12 PM
Hey Steerpike, since you're into screenplay and such, are you into Porcupine Tree by any chance? Their new album was based on a screenplay that Steve Wilson wrote, and I figured that you may know where to get a hold of it. :D)
Actually, I only just got into Porcupine Tree the other day. So I wouldn't really know, sadly.

pre-emptive 123 to whatever Cain is going to say right...

now
What's this all about? I hope I don't appear a know it all or something. :-/

Illmatic 06-22-2005 09:14 PM

Speaking of that thread, Cain, could you burn that All Along the Watchtower onto a CD and upload it? If it's not too much trouble.

I don't think so, Lucas. You're just a knowledgable dude.

Dancin' Man 06-22-2005 09:16 PM

I like how people are complementing the bass work in my competition song even though I am not a bassist.

Hi all, anything new I should know about?

Steerpike 06-22-2005 09:17 PM

By the way, Cain, you did give me some inspiration. I downloaded a tab of Love Thing and I'll start working on it tomorrow. I'm also putting together a metal re-mix of the Legend of Zelda theme.

so i joined one of those online dating things today :upset:

See my post higher up this page bragging about the Land of the Dead premiere. The fanboy is strong in this one.

All the more reason for you to get into them! What album(s) do you have, or which songs, if you're a pirate like me.

Cain- I didn't mean any offense. I saw your post, and edited mine saying that I agree with you. :) Better to do that then to spam, amirite?

PIGS- Which one? Maybe could date some time. :naughty:

Ha, my guitar teacher told me I was a good bass player when he heard me play bass. I play bass exactly how I play guitar, becuase I can't be bothered to learn to play it properly. I hate the sound of a pick, but I don't like playing with my fingers.

Cool. It's quite pretty.

Any Zelda music is AWESOME. Actually, a lot of the girls at my school dig it. They're the ones that liked my Super Mario song. :p

Cain 06-22-2005 09:21 PM

Ray- I think my sister has stolen my blank CDs and now I can't find them. But don't worry, it's been in the back of my mind as something to get done since yesterday. My apologies for keeping you waiting.

Thanks Jake. :)

Blackest Eyes, Dead Can Dance, Piano Lessons, Prodigal, and Trains. I don't really have a favorite, but it's good stuff.

RiceMonster 06-22-2005 09:23 PM

Wow, I finally found black metal with production that is too terrible for me. Vlad Tepes' La Morte de la Lune demo, honestly avoid it. I can just barely hear the song, it's that fuzzy. When I first put it on I thought it was just static.

halfdeadhippo 06-22-2005 09:24 PM

Get "The Sound of Muzak" and "Strip the Soul". They are my favorites by that band.

Nah, it's okay...I don't need to have it, but you made it sound good, so I'm interested.

Tis interesting how the "what song should I play for a girl?" topic flares up, because over the past few days my lady has put me on the spot and wanted me to play guitar for her

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-22-2005 09:25 PM

Steerpike, get these as well.

Lazarus
Collapse the Light into Earth
The Creator has a Mastertape

Those 3 songs own.

Ray- wtf, you play guitar?

Our girlfriends are so different, Ray. Mine doesn't usually ask me to play guitar for her: she thinks the "serenading" thing is too cheesy, and plus she's quite a competent singer herself so she's not apt to be impressed even by impressive guitar playing.

She won't even let me write a love song or dedicate anything to her when I perform. :( And I can write a doozy of a love song if I wanted, let me tell you.
Dang i didnt know you played guitar! U any good? What kind do you have?
He's probably quite good. One time I saw a black dude dressed in total ghetto regalia (the real kind, not the sports jerseys) walk into a guitar store and pick up a Les Paul next to me. He had the cleanest, fastest legato technique of anyone I've ever seen in person. The dude was RIPPIN. It reminded me just how few black players there are left. At the time, I wasn't even aware that they still existed (I was in ninth grade, a decidedly less-educated point and time with regards to music).

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-22-2005 09:35 PM

All 3 of our gfs are like polar opposites.

One wants you to play for her, the other doesn't, and mine plays guitar for me.

If you don't get this, I'll give you a hint. I don't have a girlfriend.

Yessuh.
Dang i didnt know you played guitar! U any good? What kind do you have?
Dang, why is this such a shock to everyone? I think I've mentioned it like, three times ITT.

Well, it's not like she was in it for the "ooh, please play a love song for me! that would be so romantic!" factor (although she might have been); back at uni she told me she played bass, so I told her I was a guitarist and she said to me the other day that she just wanted to know just how good I was at it and how interested I was in it.

But I think she did ask me to play in part because of the romanticism involved, because all women are like that :p

Cain 06-22-2005 09:38 PM

There's nothing they love more than a good serenade. Problem is, you can't have the serenade without the good. That's where it gets tricky. :p

Oh yeah, I don't think I did a very good job

Or maybe I did because she seemed impressed. But then again she could be playing the "supportive girlfriend" role. Hm.

Dr. Jake Destructo 06-22-2005 09:45 PM

Ray- Do you play any Hendrix songs?

/terrible cliche

Cain- So far 1 person has got my joke. :p

Illmatic 06-22-2005 09:45 PM

I can play some, but I mostly don't.

I just did a self-portrait for art. I should post it so you guys can make fun of me.

Please, it would be better than anything I could ever draw or paint.

I'm good with words and a gee-tar, but with a pencil or paintbrush I'm lost.
