The problem is that all the Official threads will constantly be bumped, pushing new threads off the first page with few replies.

The idea is logical and I'm willing to try it, however.
OK, so I (ICB) got banned for so-called "spam" in this thread, but skimming through, the last 2 pages were pretty "spammy" (meaning "OH NOEZ NO ONES REPORTING PROBLEMS SO LOL SPAM), by common logic. So what the hell gives?
Maybe you should not spam in this thread and complain when you get banned. I'm getting tired of it, and one of the mods got tired of it enough to ban the people spamming.
The problem is that all the Official threads will constantly be bumped, pushing new threads off the first page with few replies.
the band ones aren't really necessary tbqh. let's just let those slowly die quietly. there's only about 5 or 6 genre ones and the community thread so there should still be room for little threads.

Niflheim 07-23-2007 01:29 PM

Removing official threads is stupid, the forum will be flooded with tons of useless threads every week or two. Making a different thread to discuss each band in a certain genre is absolutely moronic. Sure it will make the forum appear more active but once one of these new threads die, another one on the same band/topic will appear every couple weeks because people don't see a thread that fits on the first couple pages and the idea that everyone will use the search function to dig up old threads is a nice thought but all of us know that won't happen.

MBS 07-23-2007 01:36 PM

You're missing the point completely. The Official threads give NO life to the forum whatsoever. It's like, everything is boxed up in a nice little package. It's also a really elitist system seeing as most new users get either flamed, trolled, or outright ignored in these threads.

Who cares about new threads every so often? It brings life and new opinions to the forums, not the same 6 guys sitting in a thread going "Hey metal is cool." "yeah." "yeah." "yeah." "yeah." "yeah."

I mean, I like some metal bands in a genre and it sucks when I go to threads to talk about them and someone else is like "yeah, that's cool. anyone like [insert underground metal band here]." i usually don't want to post again in fear of the conversation turning away from what i initially expected it to be.

so, i for one, am for the desecration of the official threads and more individual threads.

if the idea doesn't work, we can always make new official threads.

3074326 07-23-2007 01:38 PM

Niflheim, you do realize that what you described is how all forums work, right?

I'm fine with leaving Official threads for Metallica and Tool, because honestly, when they didn't have Official threads, there were 6-8 threads on the front page about them. The others are not necessary.

Niflheim 07-23-2007 01:45 PM

I think the point is missed, MX has been quite organized as far as forums go, I really don't see the need for a flood of individual threads that will die off in a day or two, then another thread which will be pretty much exactly the same as the previous ones will come up and die again. Do you really want people to create new threads every time they want to discuss a certain band? Do you want threads coming up everywhere with the same old "reccomend me some death metal like Obituary" or "reccomend me bands like Burzum", that **** gets tired and does nothing to add to discussion.

MBS 07-23-2007 01:49 PM

recommending threads are illegal, not band threads. you missed my point completely again. official threads isolate new users.

this is bad. i'm fine with dealing with a bunch of new threads, as long as i get to see a bunch of new opinions.

the complaining is only going on becuase certain kiddies don't like how they aren't allowed to discuss their metalcore, emocore, and hip-hop in the death heads thread, and how they aren't allowed to discuss tasteless, homoerotic **** like Ulver and Emperor in the black metal thread.

thanks for your uninsightful opinion, which has nothing to do with the matter at hand.

Where would people looking for recommendations go then? Usually they are directed to the official threads of the genres they are looking into, when those are gone what will be the case. People need to do some thinking.

You seem to miss my point because clearly you've failed to address it. New thread are fine but once they die off in a couple days, new ones that will be pretty much exactly the same will come up. If there was anything new to say about the band, the original thread wouldn't have died in the first place. If I feel like discussing a black metal or death metal band that only a handful of people on this forum would know, your solution is creating a new thread, not posting in a thread which is intended to discuss these bands. I don't think every single band that is to be discussed warrants their own thread.

Eliminator 07-23-2007 03:48 PM

wait didn't the mods "get rid of" the official threads before

that lasted a few days

pate 07-23-2007 03:53 PM

I really don't understand the argument that the official threads alienate people. If no one in the official threads talks about a band you bring up, what makes you think anyone will talk about them in their own thread?

Lesbian_Seagull 07-23-2007 03:59 PM
Because you guys who were banned in this incident were told specifically to stop, and didn't, I'd imagine.
Um, nope, never really got a warning.
Maybe you should not spam in this thread and complain when you get banned. I'm getting tired of it, and one of the mods got tired of it enough to ban the people spamming.
OK, but maybe mods should fucking ban people WHENEVER they come in here "spamming" if you guys are SOOO fuckingtired of it. It's not like I was coming in here posting bullshit like "LOLZ OMG UR GHEY FTW l337 l337 l337". I was just responding to Totenkrieg's being in an asshole. This last page, by your logic, has been "spam" because it's the same damn type of discussion we were having in this very thread yesterday. The only difference is no one's being a dick to each other (yet). Sorry for the fucking complaints, but I just think this issue is being taken a LITTLE too seriously by mods and users alike.
wait didn't the mods "get rid of" the official threads before
All they did was take "official" off of the thread titles. *shrug*

pate 07-23-2007 04:01 PM
Um, nope, never really got a warning.

Um...yes you did. He told everyone to stop, and no one did.

Lesbian_Seagull 07-23-2007 04:03 PM
Um...yes you did. He told everyone to stop, and no one did.
I must have not seen that amidst of all the "spamming"

TojesDolan 07-23-2007 04:57 PM

I have a better idea. Real moderators DELETE all the threads, and start the fu‪ck over again!

Nostalgia 07-23-2007 04:59 PM

Closing all the offical threads would be completely stupid. Didn't Jelle do this, what, 6 months ago? We closed a bunch of threads and they were restarted. You can't blame people for bullshitting in threads, that kind of stuff will happen. Ultimately,If you close them, they will be restarted and the process will repeat itself.

Riva 07-23-2007 04:59 PM

I did that once before, as I remember. I was pressured into restoring them all, though.

Nostalgia 07-23-2007 05:02 PM

Yeah, exactly. You guys are acting like if you close them this will magically fix the problem and there will be no more 'official' threads in existence. Plus, who really cares that a people are talking like it's a community? This is an internet forum for god's sake.

No, I meant I deleted every thread except for 5 in the forum. I wanted to show what the forum was like when I first joined. :p

TojesDolan 07-23-2007 05:06 PM
I did that once before, as I remember. I was pressured into restoring them all, though.
Well, it's easy as "go fu‪ck yourselves in the anus, one more bitching and you are perma-banned and banned on sight".

It's not that hard and I can help.

Nostalgia 07-23-2007 05:06 PM

Ohhhh, yeah I remember that, haha. I remember Jammie had like 8k posts, and he droped down to 2k when you closed the Blind Guardian and Iced Earth thread.

Stormrider 07-23-2007 05:10 PM

hahahha yeah. Though it wasn't that much. Those 2 threads acount for about 3000 posts now. So back then, about 2500.

Either way, it went down pretty bad :p

Dargon 07-23-2007 05:18 PM

sup Riva, thanks for the ban. It was totally cool and not even remotely jewish at all.

ok seriously, there was a big argument in here and I kinda got the impression that racial slurs were no longer considered a bannable offense. I assume if I say "nigg0r" I'll be banned; how about k1ke? how about just calling someone jewish?

I need to know becuase I'm too lazy to make a third account.

TojesDolan 07-23-2007 05:20 PM

OK then, have fun.

Lesbian_Seagull 07-23-2007 05:27 PM

Wow, didn't even know that.

I don't see how calling someone jewish is a racial slur at all, because I mean, even if they're jewish, it's..true. They're a jew. I could see someone getting mad over "n1gger", "k1ke", or "sp1c" though.

TojesDolan 07-23-2007 05:30 PM

I don't because I'm quite content with my ethnicity.

That's because the threads were getting too big (post-wise). At least that's what happened one of the times

Apocalyptic Raids 07-23-2007 09:06 PM
Plus, who really cares that a people are talking like it's a community? This is an internet forum for god's sake.
That's what we have the community thread for.

Eliminator 07-23-2007 09:07 PM

so if we talk about music in the community thread, those posts should be deleted.
