I would like to know that too.
Are you going?
Haha, I went and crashed out at about 12 PM, then woke up at 3 30 PM to go CD shopping and I've been up since then.
That really can't be good for you... :p |
Probly, I went to the last one.
|
Pffft. 1.20pm and I'm still going strong without any sleep.
|
What's with the insomniacs(sp?) on the forums. Give it a rest guys, literaly.
|
I'm not actually an insomniac. I just didn't go to sleep last night.
|
Why not? It's a good habit to get into. :p
|
I'm not in the habit of missing nights of sleep, quite the reverse. Last night I just didn't feel like it. I stayed up talking to Zerokewl and Joz, then playing Mechwarrior instead.
|
I'm not really an insomniac, I just have a tendency to be more nocturnal. So it seems like I'm staying up late, but it's still a standard rotation of hours.
Sometimes I just don't feel tired though. |
Cool :thumb:.
So these are amp heads?
Power amps. 'Heads' have a power amp and preamp section. A power amp has nor preamp section and vice versa. This will only give me power, whilst I keep my warwick tone :) |
oky doky, i'm ok bit bored though, you?
|
yer im ok, at lunch at the mo! how much money your mum give you?
|
I'm bored, you may have noticed my post-fest in the pit. Free periods at college w00t.

 And I can use the box from the slab of Coke to make a mini pedal board... cool. |
Ohh cool. I kinda understand.
Yeah, see, some people think a 'tube' amp will be louder than solid state. But alot of the time, especially these days, the power section is solid state and the preamp section is tube. Meaning you get tube tone, powered by transisters. If you bought a preamp, you couldn't power your cabs. But if you only had a power amp, you couldn't change your tone, bar bass's onboard EQ. |
*Blinks.*
 |
Your normal amp, or head. Has two main sections. Power, backend. And preamp, front end (tone).
A power amp is just power. A pre amp is just tone shaping. Plus them together and you get volume and tone. ... i'm tired.. night :p |

So you plug in to the front end, and you can shape your tone with the EQ on the pre-amp, and then it goes out the back-end, using power to make it louder?
|
basically,
The pre amp adds treble, bass and mids, and not very much volume (I think it's less than 10 decibells) the preamp are all the equilaization settings on your amp. The power amp just makes it loud, IE the volume dial. |
err EDIT: it came out wrong, and armadillo said it betta

I know it is a bit differnt with bass amps. But with guitar, tube amps do seem louder. Even though they are exactally the same loudness, Watt for watt. Tube power sections are perceived as being louder. It's a trick that the tubes play on the human ear called 'Low Order harmonic Distortion'. It is also this which can account to the reasononing behind why people say that tube amps just sound better. Because of this, most of the 'good sounding stuff' that comes from a tube amp comes from the power section. A tube preamp does warm up your tone to an extent. But the real benefits are in the poweramp. But, alot of the advantages that Tube amps have with guitar are less advantageous with bass. So SS powersections in bass amps just seem like the way to go. Has anyone in here had any experience with some of those tube driven MOSFET amps? How do they sound in comparison to their full SS or full Tube counterparts? |
Hey since we are on the topic of tube amps, if you don't change tubes, will that distort the sound or just stop the head from putting out sound?
|
Good afternoon. Whats happening in the bass forum today? How's you all
|
I'm good, still wondering about that tube question. My guitarists head crapped out on him during practice, and I was wondering if it could be because he hasn't changed tubes?
|
Possibly. Yeah that could be. You need to change them every so often.
|
^ Ok, I was just wondering about that, cause I told him he had to change them every once in a while, and he just looked all confused like I had no clue what I was talking about.
