Ben, you like gin?

I think I'm going all out for my Friday night too:

FlamingCouch 04-15-2011 04:02 PM

I dunno whether to play it straight or not tonight - I will definitely be solo for the evening so that's kind of gay, but I figure if I slam back like half a bottle of Glenfiddich I can just get on one of the instruments and just, y'know

transcend

man

FunkMetalBass 04-15-2011 04:14 PM

I too enjoy playing bass/guitar/theremin while under the influence.

nicatterberry 04-15-2011 04:32 PM

So when I go through this whole insurance process, what price am I supposed to give them? What I paid or what I would expect to pay to get everything back?

FunkMetalBass 04-15-2011 04:44 PM

Truthfully, probably whatever is higher. At the very least, you need to be able to get your stuff back.

BenJammin 04-16-2011 04:06 PM

god I feel like crap

FunkMetalBass 04-16-2011 05:25 PM

How was the gin-tastic night? That good, eh?

BenJammin 04-16-2011 06:37 PM

'good' probably isn't the word, given the scenario, but the gin was good. I forgot that it was 47.5% though... really kicked my ass about halfway through the bottle.

Az_Holl 04-17-2011 07:26 AM

Yeah it was def the percentage, not the fact that you drank half a bottle of it :p

FlamingCouch 04-17-2011 11:30 AM

On those terms then would a bottle of non-alcoholic wine get him totally wasted because he drank half a bottle of it?

Yes, I know.

What you said was it was not the alcohol percentage by volume that fucked Ben up hard, but rather the quantity of said bottle he consumed.

By that logic half a bottle of non-alocholic wine must be able to knock one on their ass as well.

What I'm saying is the percentage of alcohol consumed played a big part in fucking him up... he probably would've gotten considerably less shittered were he to have drank, say a bottle of 5% beer the same size as the bottle of gin he consumed.

No harm, just me being a dick.

FunkMetalBass 04-18-2011 10:36 AM

My Gotoh tuners came in today. They are probably about the same weight as most guitar tuners, which makes them the lightest bass tuners I've ever felt.

There is no logical connection between gin and non alcoholic wine?

FlamingCouch 04-18-2011 02:51 PM

OK, I must not be making sense. Apologies.

One more time -

poster stated it was the quantity of beverage consumed and not alcohol content of said beverage that got Ben super fuckin' drunk.

in that case, what I got from that argument was were Ben to have drank a bottle of beer, non-alcoholic wine, hell even water with far less percentage but the same volume of liquid as the bottle of gin, he would've still gotten as drunk as had he drank the whole bottle of gin. Not because of the alcohol content, but because of the quantity of what he drank.

I'm trying to say that the fact that he was drinking alcohol with a very high alcohol content is what fucked him up, and not the amount of what he was drinking. For an average person five/six shots of gin w/47.5% alc. by volume would probably get someone feeling pretty decent. Whereas five/six shots of beer or, as I stated earlier, non-alcoholic wine would not have such an effect.

short story - the percentage counted. small amt. of high alc. by vol content beverage is likely to render one intoxicated, much less a full bottle.

Now I'd like to ask our resident scientician if my claim holds ground or not, as I am far from a scientician myself. If I'm wrong on this one I will happily retract all posts made re: the whole gin debacle and replace them with text saying "MY NAME IS MATT AND DISREGARD THIS POST, I SUCK COCKS."

Joe, would you do the honors?

edit: also what up Joel. how you doing?
alcohol
I wrote out this whole long awesome thing and included a fucking graph, and it didn't post. Fuck.

In short, nobody is arguing that drinking a gallon of water vs. a gallon of beer will have different effects. It's just far too drastic of a comparison. Az's claim was that the difference in his 42% gin vs. a similar 35% gin wouldn't be noticeable enough to blame the ABV.

FlamingCouch 04-18-2011 06:05 PM

Fair enough. Do I get to disregard everything now/cocks/whatnot? Being that you are the judge...

Btw nice job on the summary of my post, I like that  although bummer re: the graph and all. That would've been super tight.

and that makes sense, post just seemed too generalized imo to come to such a conclusion

also :upset: that Joel didn't specify on how he's doing and such. :\

FunkMetalBass 04-18-2011 06:38 PM

Fuck. Yes. My amp tech figured out what was wrong with my BA500 head. I'm picking it up on Wednesday, and another bit to add to my summer projects is to replace the fan and build a head case for it.

FunkMetalBass 04-18-2011 07:16 PM

Sweet, and http://www.speakerhardware.com has started carrying flat packs and kits for the fEarful designed cab. I would love to try one of the 1212/6 cabs: http://www.hexpertsystems.com/mattwoolsey/cabs/fEarful-1212-6-17.jpg

Godspeed are playing like 1 of 4 UK shows right down the road from me.

Thanks for listening.

You cocksucker :(

FunkMetalBass 04-19-2011 08:53 PM

So, why do other countries use a comma instead of a period with references to decimal places?

Spaceman Spiff 04-20-2011 04:34 AM

So, I saw The Pixies last night. The word amazing doesn't even do it justice.
So, why do other countries use a comma instead of a period with references to decimal places?
Do they?

I've never seen a country say like "$1,00" instead of "1.00".

We don't do it here at any rate.

I believe the British convention is to have commas every three zeros so $1000000 would be $1,000,000 for ease of counting at a glance but decimals I think are always periods over there (commonly called a "full stop" in Australia).

Any country that deviates from the . for the decimal point is asking for a bombing if you ask me.

The "thousands-separator" comma is conventional here too. But I'm talking about an actual decimal comma.

For example: http://www.singlecoil.com/tb-strip/tbstrip.html
He specifically says "For my parts I used 2,2 cm for the top hole (switch) and 1,4 cm for the side holes for the jacks." I presume this guy is British because discusses cost in pounds.

EDIT: Wolfram to the rescue:

It's still weird, though.
