Awwwwwwww man, that's a gorgeous jazz too. I am actually in like turbo sad face mode right now, that blows.

(don't get me wrong they're all v. nice looking units but that Jazz, man!)

Was that thing custom'd? It looks pretty spanky.

I hope you have some kind of Sonic Youth-like turnaround and start finding them in pawn shops or something like that, or better yet that the tard who snagged them has a change of mind/heart. :(

FunkMetalBass 04-15-2011 10:32 AM

Oh man, that blows hard. Those were gorgeous. Do you have serial numbers? Many pawn shops will check police databases for stolen items (I presume you've gotten the police involved). As well, check craigslist.

Did you have renter's insurance? You can claim everything that they took and get enough to buy most of it back.

nicatterberry 04-15-2011 10:46 AM

The huge idiot I am, I never did write down the serial numbers. I still have all the case-candy for the Jazz (~95 MIJ Foto-Flame btw FlamingCouch), so I'm hoping that has it written down. And no renters insurance, but since I'm in school my parent's home owners insurance said that they would cover it.

FunkMetalBass 04-15-2011 11:00 AM

Well, that's good that HO is covering it. It's a pain in the ass, and the sentimentality is gone, but at least it's all replaceable with relative ease.

I pay about $10 a month for renter's insurance and then an additional $10 a month (all through my auto insurance company) for musical instrument insurance. I submitted serial numbers for all of my basses and guitars as well as a comprehensive breakdown of street price + price of modifications for each one.

nicatterberry 04-15-2011 11:39 AM

I love all of those basses, but if I could get the jazz back I would be more than satisfied.

On a hopefully less depressing note, how have you all been?

FunkMetalBass 04-15-2011 11:54 AM

Depressed. :p

Quite good, actually.
Finals season is approaching, and the copious amounts of homework and studying are really wearing on me, but that's to be expected.
The girlfriend was accepted into dental school near my house, so she's moving up to Phoenix in May and she'll be moving in with me.
I've also started the process of clearing out all the gear I don't use anymore and I'm saving for an upright, or at least the materials for an electric upright (6-strings, like the NS6), and I'm thinking I'd like it tuned an octave below a standard bass.

How about you? Theft aside, how have you been?

woah :blinks:

Dammit Joe how did you get so smart man. I'm just starting to grasp at the whole insurance thing... but I'm gonna take care of all of it when I get back to Ontario anyways.

At my end things are good, Nic. I'm leaving my job in BC at the end of the month and moving back to Ontario to get everything straightened out and start getting ahead in this ole world of ours. Whether or not it's a good move, it's happening and I'm looking at it with a level head. Even if it turns out bad, it's a change so it has to have some good in it. Plus, I get to go home. :D

Like the gentleman above me, I'll ask how you are aside from the whole theft thing.

heyyyy, top notch, Sir. Best of luck with the move! :thumb: and congrats on her acceptance.
How's all the home-brewing coming along?

I researched the hell out of musical instrument insurance, and couldn't find anything cheap. Per my father's suggestion, I got renter's insurance and saw that they had some "valuable property" insurance option to tack onto renter's. Sure enough, musical instruments are built into that, and even though it's an extension of renter's insurance, it protects my instruments outside of my home, which is helpful the event that my gear is stolen at a gig. So, erm, by accident?

Thanks - I'll let her know that you send your congratulations. She's really excited, and I am too, not only because I no longer have to wait until the weekends and drive 2 hours for sex, but just because I really like this chick. Plus, she can be my sugar-momma in 10 years. Holla!

The brewing is coming along. The oatmeal stout turned out pretty well, but I'm going to make it again and modify the recipe with the hopes of reducing bitterness as well as bringing out the oatmeal flavor. Additionally, I want to add some chocolate into the mix. Other than beer, I have my 3 different meads. The orange-clove is wonderful, the lemon-lime needs a bit of sweetening and some lime oil, and the chocolate-cherry... may just be poured out. Haha. It might be decent to mix with, but I'm not counting on it.

just got me some slate samples for drums though which is sweet. they're just taking forever to download :(
huge insurance spiel
Swank, man. I will definitely talk to Co-Operator's when I get home about doing this exact same thing. Ten grand in instruments should surely be taken care of, not to mention I could probably use the collective value of all my gear as collateral?

Hey, speaking of which I'll have a big question re: cabs/PA whatnot below. but 'til then...
girl/move spiel
major lols at this post. Most excellent.
beer spiel
Dang, sounds wicked swank. I would be on lemon-lime like white on rice. Orange clove sounds weird for sure, but hey I'm sure it's quite the experience! and chocolate would make for super heavy-duty badass, for sure. That beer sounds like a meal in and of itself!

OK so my huge query on cab/PA shiz (warning, tl;dr):

As I've stated a million times prior I'm going back to Ontario and bringing most likely the vast majority of my gear with me. Some of it will probably stay here but not a whole lot - just enough to still be able to give'r if and when I return. (Dad's gonna have it at the company's shop up here under lock and key, as with a whole mass of stuff we'll be eventually hauling back home.)

So I'm most likely going to have to resort to leaving some cabinets and possibly my old PA in the garage, and unless we do some work on it this summer it probably won't be heated come winter. These things have taken a literal shit-kicking and come out shining all the time, and can withstand water like nobody's business. But how 'bout cold? It's not like it's super swanky gear (I bought both of my PAs and their respective speakers/cabs used) but I'd still like to know that extreme cold and humidity will or won't kill them if they sit unplugged and idle for a year. Should I box them up? Stuff insulation around 'em? try for the basement (a probably worse idea because our basement is the shits)?

And as far as my PA - it's just this beastly busted unit a music store in FSJ used to rent out. It works fine but there's plenty of cosmetic damage - knobs missing and broken, etc. Who's the best any or all of you know of for picking up little odds-and-ends gear such as what I'm describing? Just little vol/tone knobs, a couple of lever-like adjusters and whatnot. Again not really a big deal but I might as well ask considering all the dudes I've got crowded 'round this thread.
i think coffee shop girl may have inexplicably moved to australia without warning >.>
hahahha, man how does a without warning totally out of the blue move happen unless you are completely loaded, not to mention independently.

Was this the same gal who had a BF that I was advising you to kill?

fatbandit 04-15-2011 01:38 PM

yeah. i'm still not convinced he ever existed haha. and just because i was never warned doesn't mean there wasn't a warning i suppose hahaha. she hasn't been at work for like two weeks, and her address on facebook is an australian one. you don't change your address if you're on holiday. mind you, you don't put your address on facebook normally! unlucky for me either way.

FunkMetalBass 04-15-2011 01:40 PM
PhD Dissertation about PA system
When it comes to electronics, it's not usually the temperature so much as the moisture that kills. The garage, while not ideal, will protect it from that. The cabs shouldn't have an issue (probably just toss a moving blanket over the top of 'em and forget about them), but I'd definitely insulate the power amp/mixers because fluctuations in the PCBs could definitely crack some solder joints.

It's probably for the best. Statistically speaking, any female willingly moves to Australia is either lesbian or enjoys polyandry.

Excellent, will adhere to this. Many thanks, my good man. Also had to chuckle at PhD dissertation. That definitely makes me want to put on a tux w/top hat, monocle and just saunter 'round the office going "Mn'yes. Quite" to everyone I see.
funky had better not pull her.
He's probably chatting her up as we speak. Talk of the band... mention of some virtuouo bass playing... some kind of offhand but sultry remark about how bass players just 'have that groove to everything we do' and he'll be in like a warm, cozy blanket.

FunkMetalBass 04-15-2011 01:59 PM
funky had better not pull her.
He must lie about what instrument he plays, because no bass player scores as many hot chicks as he does.

Other than Gene Simmons, but his tongue size and his money are the leading factors when he scores chicks.

fatbandit 04-15-2011 02:01 PM

you guys aren't making this encouraging for me.

FlamingCouch 04-15-2011 02:26 PM

Well we definitely aren't going to tell you to move to Aus.

/no offense Aus bros

fatbandit 04-15-2011 02:43 PM

I'd quite like to move to America. Seems like a better place to be in a band for some reason.

FlamingCouch 04-15-2011 02:48 PM

Yes and no. Reading Michael Azzaerad's Our Band Could Be Your Life I've come to realize the nice thing about living in Europe and being in a band is gigging is a hell of a lot more economically viable, being that everyone is so tightly crammed together.

In the US and Canada there are a lot more loooooooong drives that automatically make touring more costly. That being said the neat thing about it is stopping at little towns in the middle of nowhere and playing gigs there, at impromptu gatherings and shiz. That really makes it worth the trip.

Still, mad expensive for a young band to make a go of it considering the travel involved, unless you're in a huge urban area.
I'd quite like to move to America. Seems like a better place to be in a band for some reason.
Eh, it's the same shit, but a different scene. Guess it depends on what you're into. Nobody here listens to Glassjaw. :p

fatbandit 04-15-2011 02:52 PM

Idk, somewhere like Seattle just seems like a pretty happening place to be. To the outsider, at least :p

And petrol here is waaaaaaaay more expensive I think? So the costs might not be that different to be honest.

BenJammin 04-15-2011 02:53 PM

Well, my girlfriend broke up with me last night.

So I'm going to do the mature, responsible thing tonight: get really, really drunk.

cheers guys

FlamingCouch 04-15-2011 02:56 PM

Bummer, Ben. Sorry to hear that man. What'll you be putting back? If you haven't had La Fin Du Monde I would suggest one or two or twelve of those.

everyone's days are turning to shit 'round here, wow.

fatbandit 04-15-2011 03:02 PM

shit, son :( this is getting totally uncool for everyone except joe pretty much. what's happening?

FunkMetalBass 04-15-2011 03:07 PM

I should probably leave these forums now before it rubs off on me.

Actually, I just deleted 8 hours worth of time-sensitive work that I've been doing all day. And of course, it needs to be done within an hour. ****

Me actually. Things are going totally cool for me.

save for me being the only one that things are going good for. :|

and Ben - at least you'll be a fucking classy drunk man, with a bottle like that.

nicatterberry 04-15-2011 03:34 PM

Haven't been too bad. Also starting to get busy with finals.

I too will be getting drunk tonight, just in a considerably less classy way:
