You can't sue someone for covering your songs if they pay you royalties.

As long as you dan't make a profit from the covers (i.e. put them on an album) you dont need permission.

As long as you pay songwriting royalties, you can release a cover. You just have to pay a royalty to the songwriter.

Well this is the case most of the time. I wasnt fond of St. Anger or Reload that much. But Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, Justice, Black Album, and Kill Em All are all insanely awesome. I like prety much every song off of those (minus Enter Sandman).
