AtG isn't really Gothenburg. They tread the line but I think of them as more Melodic Death. Gothenburg doesn't have an industrial influence, later Dark Tranquillity does but that's just their style, not the whole genre's. Gothenburg has a lot of elements of Thrash in it, but much more Melodic. Think Thrash with harmonized guitars, lot's of tremolo picking, blast beats, double bass, and just an overall melodic sound.
Early In Flames and any Dark Tranquillity is a good example. |
Thrash > Gothenburg.
It's true, it's true :p |
I guess I just said Gothenburg because that's where In Flames are from, and they're kinda in that style too. I really don't care what exact genre bands are, as long as I like them it doesn't matter to me. I can't really seem to get into In Flames but I do love Take This Life and Dead End.
Dark Tranquility, I like a few of their songs. I think one is Black Noise, White Silence, that's cool. I have alot of DT and AtG songs, I just haven't really dedicated enough time to listen to them properly. |

It's true, it's true :p
Lies! :p |
Why the hell do you need a 200gb or 300gb harddrive? Cant any of you limit yourself maybe go out and buy atleast a few cds?
|
I buy all the cds of bands I like, I download stuff I've never heard before so then i CAN hear it to see if I like it. I use most of my space for videos.
|

I have a 750 gig HDD and only buy CDs. Also, Thrash >>>>>>>>>> Gothenburg. |

:chug:
On a related note, i'm completely obsessed with Bewitched thanks to you, haha. |
I was actually going to review that album yesterday, but I will wait until thursday, when I will be finished for the semester.
Also, I will upload Rise Of The Antichrist for you. I keep forgetting :( |
Ah, thanks a bunch man.
|
Gothenburg seems to contain a lot more atmospheric stuff in it, from what I've heard.
And anything > ATG. Somebody needs to shoot Tomas for his crappy *** vocals. |
I listen to them for the music. I'm not mad on the vocals, but they'll probably grow on me if I listen to them more.
|
Yeah. I dislike the music as well though.
|
Which is your favorite CC album?
Sorry for the wait dude, I was holding out for my 10,000th post. CC as in Cannibal Corpse ? |

CC as in Cannibal Corpse ?
Yessir |
Current favorite is Kill.
Then Vile > Gallery of Suicide > Tomb of the Mutilated > Butchered at Birth > Eaten Back to life. The others are good, but I haven't listened to them in a bit. |

Then Vile > Gallery of Suicide > Tomb of the Mutilated > Butchered at Birth > Eaten Back to life. The others are good, but I haven't listened to them in a bit.
I listened to all CC's stuff in one night this week. I basically agree with that ranking. |
Awesome.
Kill is just nuts, did you read my review ? |
Awesome.
Kill is just nuts, did you read my review ?
I did. That was quite a while ago. I still remember it was one of the best reviews I've read on sputnik though. Fav song on Kill? I lllllooovvveeeee Make Them Suffer. It's all insane though. |
Five Nails Through the Neck.
Mental riffage and that vomit scream is classic. Although, most of that album is brilliant riffing; it's really hard to choose a favorite. EAch song has so many good parts, so it's REALLY hard to decide. Which is what you really want from an album, really :) |
Ugh Cannibal Corpse.
|
Ugh Cannibal Corpse.
Theyre a million times more successful, popular and talented than CoB. Thats actually fact too. |
Their music sounds sloppy imo.
|

I have to side with Squirrel here.
/ends at that |

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6455471444605708420&q=cannibal+corpse
Thanks, that was pretty cool. It's definately tighter than the live videos I've seen, which is pretty much what I was going by when I said what I did. I have to say it's not the type of music I'd want to listen to all day though but that's the most technical CC song I've seen/heard. |
No prob dude.
If you give their work a close listen, especially with a GP or powertab file, lots of it is on a par with that, or just below. Theyve got a very distinct technical edge. That may come off as sloppy live with the tone they use. |
Yeah maybe it is the tone. I think it was that live Cannibalism dvd thing that I saw. Alsi, listening to Necrophagist makes them sound sloppy because Muhammed's tone is pretty tight.
|
Thats a point.
But part of their sound is their buzzsaw, rough, sandpaper tone, layered over the wall of sound bass. It's just a different sound approach that imo, sounds a lot better. I wouldnt call Live Cannibalism sloppy, but I can see where you're coming from. |
I can understand that that distinctive tone is part of what draws people to them.
Like when people say bad production adds to the atmosphere of black metal, but I just think when music reaches that certain point of techanicality, it should be of the higest quality so you can make it out, that probably explain why Annihilation of the Wicked is the only Nile album I can listen to. |
Yeah, Technical Music needs generally needs good production. Especially if it's Techy Brutal DM type stuff.
|
Exactly, especially if it's got super crazy drums over it and loud, deep growls and screams. High speed also could make it sound unaudiable.
|
Bad production is the main reason why Black Seeds Of Vengeance sucks.
|
Definately, that's why tech DM albums tend to have such a precise, honed and sharp sound; to get the technicality through.
Otherwise its just sludge. |
did i missed anything since saturday?
|
Just non CoB talk.
|
Wotan? lol
|
http://www.worldspirituality.org/wotan.html :)
