There's nothing better than reading mind-bending fiction... I've found that it has expanded, in my mind, the possibilities of reality. As ironic as that sounds, it does help you respect unexplained energies that do not exist in the laws of nature. It probably shouldn't have that type of effect on me due to the lack of scientific base of it, but it works nonetheless, I feel.

I need to check out some of that stuff. Sounds great. Wheel of Time sounds like a good place to start. Maybe I'll ask my mom to swing by the library and look for something of that kind.
|
Wheel of Time is actually high fantasy.
|
I love Lovecraft. I've read the short Stories book. Some of the best stuff I've ever read.
The Outsider is brilliant. |
It seems like us Tool fans are really into gorey things, for some reason. Death, killing, zombies, etc...:p
No most of my lucid dreams involve relationships, or just doing ordianry things like cycling and stuff. I think they normally happen because i spend hours thinking just before i go to bed about all the stuff that eneds thinking about, and it kinda just merges into the dream. It's quite annoying when the dream feels so realistic though, they difinateley affect me IRL. |
I've never listened to Tool before. What do they sound like and what's a good introduction album?
|
Hmm, they are a hard rock/prog metal band. They could be compared to bands like chevelle, who play less technical/spacey versions of the tool sound. But they can also be compared to bands like Dredg who create great atmosphere in their music.
I'd reccomend Aenima as a starter album and most of this thread will agree. But it is difficult to say what tool soud like because there are really no other bands like them. |

It is quite likeley, though they aren't the standard prog you hear.
I always use amazon to sample albums... www.amazon.com They give you 30sec clips of all the songs. |

I've lucid dreamed before on a few occasions, but I have a terrible sleeping pattern anyway, and suffer from mild insomnia sometimes. Being half awake and half asleep is sometimes pretty easy for me. Especially on a morning when I go back to sleep after being woken up too early.
I havn't had an actual lucid dream for a while though. This dreaming stuff, I'm highly suspecious of people who say they can control it. I know some people have been known to lucid dream every night, but I think it's just how their psychological state is made up, most people simply can't, and some people will never lucid dream. Or should I say, at least remember lucid dreaming. I gave up on meditation years ago for being too hokey, even though I had a weird experience with it. Although I think that may have been due to lack of oxygen, I think I actually stopped breathing and had a weird little vision thing. I felt like I was floating slightly, but it definately felt due to oxygen loss rather than anything internal or mystical. My coolest lucid dreams that I can remember are.. being able to turn into different animals, ie: My dog, and then a crow, and flying around. And realising I was dreaming and flying around my neighbourhood and being really strong and stuff. Edit: To the guy who said he couldn't look up while waking up from his dream, I know the feeling. At first, you're in this dream world that dosn't feel like you've constructed it. And as you're waking up, you start to be able to manipulate yourself within it, and I guess the world itself, though by that point, I feel like I'm imagining the world and creating it in my head anyway, and can feel my body in the real world, etc. and it becomes less vivid. One the control shifts from your unconscious to your conscious you come back to reality. Somewhere in between is just nice, though. |
Can someone link me to good sites for beginners with astral projection? I've want to read up on some of that stuff before I get my own place next year. Thanks.
/off topic, but since when are you guys on it :p |
i like that show :D
was it like the TOoL logo, or was it like a derogatory term like "dont be a tool"
Uh... It's a film. It's a documentary about the school that School of Rock was based on. I'm pretty sure the guy who runs it was slagging Tool. I still find it funny... |

I've been looking for this for awhile too, actually. Hopefully, someone can supply us with the goods. |

Oh, how I hate Brandon Boyd. |

Boyd's voice is the voice of 1000 headaches. Maynard's is eargasmic. |
I really like Incubus, and there vocalist.
|
I really like Incubus, and there vocalist.
On the records his voice is fine. I really love Make Yourself and SCIENCE... But live, I was forced to take large amounts of tylenol to tolerate his voice. |
I love Brandon Boyd's voice. It think what you guys dislike is the vocal harmonies. He's a really **** good singer, better than Maynard in my opinion, just not as cool sounding.
ATTN: I now have the coolest name for my band!!! Lucid Dreams. |
How about Moses and His Delusional Band of Lucid Dreamers? :D
:upset: |
How about Moses and His Delusional Band of Lucid Dreamers? :D
:upset:
Don't frown, that was a great idea. /chuckles Think he bought it? edit: Just a random memory. I recall someone tellingme one time that Adam hates it when Tool is called metal. Is there proof of this somewhere? |

ATTN: I now have the coolest name for my band!!! Lucid Dreams.
No I think what I don't like about Brandon Boyd's voice is the whiny quality it has, and how he's sharp and flat all over and can't match the quality of Incubus' records. |
Don't frown, that was a great idea.
/chuckles Think he bought it? edit: Just a random memory. I recall someone tellingme one time that Adam hates it when Tool is called metal. Is there proof of this somewhere?
I've seen him say something akin to that, but that's not entirely accurate. Hold on, let me see if I can dig up the quote I have. It was more like, he thought it was lame that people saw them exclusvely as a metal band or something like that, not that he hated being called metal. EDIT: Here it is... "When we did Opiate, we picked our heaviest songs. People went, 'Oh, you're a metal band,' and I thought that was kind of lame. We try to branch off into different directions. We try to touch base with all our influences." Whether that's what someone was referring to or not, it doesn't imply that Jones hates being called metal, only that he thinks the band is more than that. |
Oh okay. That sounds more like something one of the member's would say.
|
I never really thought of Tool as metal. The one category I define them as are Progressive/Ambient/Modern Rock. Too hard to fully classify.
|
20,000 posts just gone and nobody marked the occasion!?!
I just missed it :( |
Classifying Tool is more trouble than it's worth. Just go with "good music".
|
I always call them Prog Metal.
|
Classifying Tool is more trouble than it's worth. Just go with "good music".
That's even more problematic, I think. |

Or just "Tool"? Were you banned? Why? |
Or just "Tool"?
Were you banned? Why?
-shrugs- that too. I was banned by Strum, for attempting to be funny in the Pit. Oh well, I've never been banned before, so this is kind of cool. |
I tend to avoid the Pit these days. I go in there for the occasional look but that's about it.
|
Yeah, I only go to the Pit when R&M is dead or if I see something interestingon the front page.
