Years of practice? You seriously underestimate other people's abilities.

MRDuCran 03-12-2006 05:10 PM

Yes I do.

repcak 03-12-2006 05:12 PM
No offence, but it will actually take years of practise to perfect that.
Considering it's chromatics, string skipping, alternate picking at 180ish...
do you talk about the licks from youg guitar or do you talk about "move" or another song?

do you know this?

repcak 03-12-2006 05:32 PM

No, I mean Nile's Lashed to the Slave Stick.

I haven't clicked the link, but if it's John Petrucci playing it, I already have it.

I don't mean as good as Karl Sanders, but I know I can get it sounding pretty good. I practiced it for 5 hours today putting a lot more work into it. It'll be a month or two but I know I can get it sounding really good.
Years of practice? You seriously underestimate other people's abilities.
It seems so at times. He knows his stuff though and his recordings were pretty damn good. So he does have plenty of talking room, but not on this.

AA-12 03-12-2006 08:30 PM

Nile isn't that hard guys. Just fast.

I'm Charming 03-12-2006 08:49 PM
Nile isn't that hard guys. Just fast.
Correct.

MRDuCran 03-12-2006 09:51 PM

So:

E-12-13-

at 240bpm isn't hard?

You can compare John Petrucci's playing and John McLaughlin's, both differ in style and what they actually play, but both have difficult solos because of the high speed.

repcak 03-13-2006 06:16 AM

omfg ... i can't believe it... NILE is coming to vienna on 23.4.2006 :D

MRDuCran 03-13-2006 06:47 AM

Apparantly, Nile are coming to Camden UK too.

kurrpt 03-13-2006 09:22 AM

o sorry for not posting much guys

i got it pretty solid at 125 bpm right now. I kinda put it off, and come back to it ya know. I havent broken the 125 bpm marker with this intro yet. Its the friggin skip to the 20th fret. Im not 100% at it yet.

As far as like the first 3 bars go, i can get it to like 130/135, but like i said, that position change is fukking me, so i slow it down

repcak 03-13-2006 10:12 AM

yeah, the part with the 20th fret, 4th beat, is horrible

kurrpt 03-13-2006 10:14 AM
yeah, the part with the 20th fret, 4th beat, is horrible
actually, its not horrible, i just find a deficiency in my practice regime.

If anything, it taught me i need to work on position shifting with a higher bpm setting. I've taken steps to getting it fixed

Im like 60% on that shift right now. Pisses me off

AA-12 03-13-2006 06:02 PM

It's not that hard.

John McLaughlin thoroughly owns him in technical ability though.

MRDuCran 03-13-2006 06:50 PM

lol k

I'm Charming 03-14-2006 05:34 PM

3rd page? I think not.

Discuss the hardest Bodom riff/solo/song to play...

I have to say the sweeps in Towards Dead End are quite hard.

repcak 03-14-2006 05:36 PM

@Che Guevara:
i have problems with the following part:
20----------18---------17-----------15-13-----13
---18---18----18---18---18----18---------13---
------17----------17----------17-------------------

John Petrucci is playing it too fast on the video to see anything. the only thing i could realize is that his finger #1 stays on the 13th fret. can you tell me with which fingers do you play this arpeggio?!

edit:
I'm Charming was faster than me with bumping this up :D

i once tried to play the sweeps... too fast for me.. though they aren't hard... only fast

purgatory 03-14-2006 05:41 PM

\is almost done with Lashed To The Stick

I havn't tried that. I've never really wanted to learn anything off Something Wild. I don't know why. I might learn Silent Night, Bodom Night (yeah yeah shut up)... I want to work on some stuff other then Bodom for a while.

Whats wrong with learning Silent Night, Bodom Night.

Songs Im working on now:

CoB - Lake Bodom
Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons / As I Am / Pull Me Under
Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here / Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2
Metallica - Master of Puppets / Creeping Death
Megadeth - Holy Wars / PEace Sells / Angry Again / Symphony of Destruction
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven / Whole Lotta Love / Heartbreaker
Symphony X - Evolution / Inferno / Of Seas and Shadows
Opeth - Ghost of Perdition
Deep Purple - Highway Star

I have a short attention span when it comes to learning other people's songs.

I would get sleepy when I used to play symphony of destruction. It has to be one of the easiest songs out there. IMO at least.

repcak 03-14-2006 06:20 PM

do you really learn all the songs at once? from the begin to the end?!

what i practise now is kalmah - swamphell, paganin - 5th caprice (only the intro, a version with only arpeggios) and the intro to Universal Mind.... and i stopped practising lake bodom. *g*

No. I would work on a riff or solo, get bored and then move onto the next song. Im making progress on all of them, but I would make more progress if I did one or two songs at a time.

MRDuCran 03-14-2006 09:04 PM

The Downfall solo is hard to nail. I know there's going to be someone saying I can play it, well no.
There's a section in Hatebreeder with sweeps that's hard.
Warheart solo
Hate Me solo, album version is a bit ghey to play.
Children of Decadence
Kissing the Shadows
Hate Crew Deatholl solo is pretty tricky, as is Living Dead Beat.
We're Not Gonna Fall.

I'd say the hardest riffs are on HCDR. Needled intro riff, Bodom Beach Terror verse and interlude, Triple Corpse hammerblow lead riff, You're Better Off Dead intro all have fast stuff. The solos's for them are hard too.
