However, considering that I've experienced conservative and liberal ranting first hand, I'd much rather be exposed to republicans than democrats.
Republicans are way too ignorant. They think every single problem can be summed up in a sentence or two. Plus they like Ronald Reagan (/points to user title).
Go worship ur president, fagg0t
That's what they do in communism. Here in normal countries we worship God. :eng101: I'm six feet even (for all intents and purposes) and my girl is about 5'5, and we look pretty normal (well once you take away the interracial thing) together. |
I'm not screwing any of them, but they're still hitting on me.
Well that's at least a start. :thumb:
Republicans are way too ignorant. They think every single problem can be summed up in a sentence or two.
I think you can say the same thing about some democrats as well. |
Republicans are way too ignorant. They think every single problem can be summed up in a sentence or two.
They also have a tendency to attack the effect instead of the cause. I'm not sure if I'm not the only one who noticed that, but... |

Plus they like Ronald Reagan (/points to user title)
There was a democratic convention at the venue I work at, and jesus fucking christ, I've never heard "politicians" be so disrespectful or arrogant. The entire time was spent trashing Bush and Cheney and making the most ridiculous claims I've ever heard. I like to think I'm completely neutral and apathetic when it comes to politics, but the left wingers here are terrible people. I'm assuming not all are like them though. |
This argument's too intelligent for me.
|
I think you can say the same thing about some democrats as well.
Some. But for the most part, liberals at least understand how complex some problems can be. Also, conservatives are fucking wimps.
There was a democratic convention at the venue I work at, and jesus ****ing christ, I've never heard "politicians" be so disrespectful or arrogant. I'll tell you that I don't like Bush if you ask me, but I won't start retarded campaigns and protest. |
The most annoying thing about current politics is the assumption of dichotomy in everything - that everything has to be divided into liberal/conservative, democrat/republican, etc. It's almost always the first thing asked about any issue; not anything actually about the issue at all. And it's damaging.
|
That's a really good point. I never really thought of it that way.
All of this talk of politics has made me whip out my Rage Against the Machine albums. |

This is how I spin it too (basically). Not to steal your thunder, obviously, because you pretty much wrote this brilliantly. But this is one topic that simply can't be black-and-white. Also, most people here align themselves somewhere on the political spectrum, or to a party in particular. I don't, and it eats at Med every day :p |
I think you and I are on slightly different pages, but okay.
I'm thinking of starting to refer to you as Doctor Lecter.
Hahaha...I think it may stick... |
Jom, are you saying that you don't have a political stance at all?
|
I sure as hell don't. I'd say I lean more to liberalism, but on this one "What Political Side Are You" test we took in Social Studies, I got dead in the middle.
|
Yes, that's accurate. But that doesn't mean you can't be informed about issues facing the city/county/country/world.
|
You can't just be informed without having the slightest opinion about them, and those opinions will lead you to a political stance, whether you want to be part of it or not.
Unless you're Mr. Objectivity himself, having no opinions. |
I don't think I have a political stance either really :-/...
|
You can't just be informed without having the slightest opinion about them, and those opinions will lead you to a political stance, whether you want to be part of it or not.
Unless you're Mr. Objectivity himself, having no opinions.
What, it's better to be completely ignorant of the goings-on in your land than to commit to an allegiance to a political party? That boils down to the divisions. If you're for capital punishment, then you must be against the legalization of marijuana AND abortion. Oh, no, you can't be both, you have to be one or the other. And I think that's wrong, and kind of (but not really) what Bartender was getting at - or at least, that's how I interpreted it. You can't have divisions just because the Democrat/Republican rubric tells you to. To me, that makes no sense. Well, for some, that might not be a bad thing. Ignorance is bliss, after all. |
Exactly, I have alot of green leanings and alot of Conservative ones too, it would clash in places I suppose.
|
Ignorance may be bliss to some, but others sure do get worked up about it  (including myself).
|
What, it's better to be completely ignorant of the goings-on in your land than to have an allegiance to a party?
swing and a miss, Jom. |
This ain't baseball, homie.
|
Yeah, I know. But socialism is totally different. :p
Eh, they'll never learn. :upset:
I'd rather have a say in what happens in my country. What's stopping tyranny? |

Well, for some, that might not be a bad thing. Ignorance is bliss, after all.
I didn't say that. I'm just saying that, when you have so much information, it's impossible not to have an opinion about it and that automatically, you must be leaning towards liberalism or conservatism, at least slightly. I think. Unless well, you are a very eclectic opinion holder.
I'd rather have a say in what happens in my country. What's stopping tyranny?
Again. This is not communism we're talking about. Democratic socialism might be a more accurate term. |
It's a two-edged sword though; liberals tend to overthink economics, or just plain don't get it.
I think that's the case with just about everyone though. Economics are too boring/complicated for most people to care too strongly about.
What, it's better to be completely ignorant of the goings-on in your land than to commit to an allegiance to a political party? That boils down to the divisions.
He means do you take no stance on any issue or just refuse to pigeonhole yourself?
Haha, putting things into context is like playing with Play-Doh. It always seems like I'm completely missing the point when talking to non-Americans because you guys seem to have a much more solid background in pretty much everything compared to an average American. So, forgive me if I need to ask clarifying questions or I need someone to put something in place for me so I can understand it. Some people might get it, sure, but that doesn't concern me. It's like, "Here you go, have a cookie for interpreting it correctly," heh. And what, it's not fair of me to emulate NPC? Fair enough. *floats away on a red balloon* |
Damn I'm nervous. The auction on this amazing Jackson I want has gone into overtime and I'm now up to $690 for it. Hopefully the two guys who overbid me left, I can't go any higher. :( If it goes untouched for four more minutes I'll have it. Wish me luck.

YES! JACKSON RR5 COMING MY WAY! :D
Thank you for the support Ollie and Stormrider. Yeah, $690 was my max, I officially owe my parents $110. :p It was worth it though, I saved over $1000 on it. |
"The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries." - Winston Churchill
Er. What point are you trying to make with that? Also, if you can show me how this makes sense of your apparent belief that democracy is opposed to socialism, I'll be very impressed. |

Okay.. what's your point? Does that make capitalism better? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_socialism#Definitions Maybe you should first learn what it is.
YES! Oops...i missed that. Thats cool Ben ! I said I would be saving up for my next guitar up util my Birthday, but, meh, plans changed and I'll be saving up 'till sometimes int he summer. |
Churchill was a great historical figure, sure, but I don't get what your point is by randomly taking a quotation of is and not providing any justification as to why you quoted it in the first place.
I WON A GUITAR ON EBAY OMG
Hooray! |
What, it's better to be completely ignorant of the goings-on in your land than to commit to an allegiance to a political party?
I highly doubt that's what he was trying to say at all.
That boils down to the divisions. If you're for capital punishment, then you must be against the legalization of marijuana AND abortion. Here's a photoshopped image I made. The actual thing will have a transparent blue finish, so it will be darker with a natural wood grain underneath, but this is the closest picture I've seen of it: http://img503.imageshack.us/img503/7467/newaxe7ye.jpg
Oops...i missed that.
Heh. It reminds me of ProtestWarrior, a big right-wing message board, where people have a penchant for quoting renowned socialist George Orwell. Eventually someone just put in their signature, "quit quoting Orwell, he wouldn't agree with you."
OK that had nothing to do with anything.
That sounds funny, although which parts of Orwell would they quote? |

Nice guitar :) I was saving up for my B-day in hopes that I would buy my guitar then, but the guitar I wanted dispointed me when I tried it...so I'm going to wait. I still don't know what I want now :-/ Have a few ideas but stil... |
