Well....Tool are considered progressive, and some great Prog. bands are The Mars Volta, Porcupine Tree, Opeth, and Radiohead. Also, Tool were influenced by King Crimson, so I think that'd be a good band to check out. |
My band has no problem with musician talent, it's just that we've been going nowhere fast for the last year or so. Ironic, no?
Same here, we're all like classically or jazz trained, we just can't get anywhere. A few pretty good shows are coming to my city soon and this is after Gigantour and Dredg: SLIPKNOT CHILDREN OF BODOM AUDIOSLAVE AVENGED SEVENFOLD BLACK LABEL SOCIETY GWAR MESHUGGAH KMFDM PORCUPINE TREE LES CLAYPOOL MIKE JONES / TWISTA (threw that one in for laughs, although Twista would be cool) |

:upset: Seriously though, if I had to recommend one band it would be Dredg. Or you couuld follow Allmusic.com and say bands like: Korn, Filter, White Zombie, Rage Against the Machine, Godsmack, Rammstein, and Breaking Benjamen. |

The rest you can skip. :p |

I can see influences from them in Dredg's sound, yes, and maybe similar writing styles or outlooks back in the Leitmotif days, but beyond that, I never saw it. |
Yeah, but it seems that every Tool fan also likes Dredg. Therefore, all musical relations are thrown out the window. :p
Oh hi, I'm back. |
I've never heard Dredg... :(
Welcome back, its been a whole 12 posts since you've been gone. |
Yeah, I know. It was a lame attempt at boycotting Tool. :upset:
|
Yeah, but it seems that every Tool fan also likes Dredg. Therefore, all musical relations are thrown out the window. :p
Oh hi, I'm back.
I was actually about to edit that into my post. It seems like there's some kind of triangle between Tool, Dredg and Deftones. |
And Porcupine Tree, too.
This is pretty unrelated, but since some Tool fans are also Arcturus fans, here goes: I'm learning Nightmare Heaven from The Sham Mirrors. Fun to play. :-D Too bad the fag tab I got for it doesn't even have the solo. |
I once went on an Arcturus binge, but their songs aren't all that satisfying to play on guitar, from my experience, since there's so much going on around the guitars that makes the song what it is.
|
Yeah, it's like that in most cases. There are a couple cool riffs in Nightmare Heaven, though.
|
Didn't mean to discourage you from learning the songs, because they are often very fun to play :)
|
Does anybody know when the next tool album is coming out? Sorry if this has already been posted but I really cant read through 794 pages to find it lol. Thanks

Is that the name of it? |
I don't know, just ask Blair. Although, he's not much help either. Toolband.com
|
I bet somebody knows when it is coming out...I guess ill research on tool sites...
|
Nah, no one really does. My guess is probably in the spring, but who knows. They might say tomorrow when the album is coming out, when their new single is getting released, the names, etc. It might come out around Christmas time, we don't really know.
|
oh alrite....well thanks anyways man you're probably right.
|
We're getting close to 20000, guys...Good job.
Btw, my favorite song seems to be Push!t these days... |
Studio or Salival? I love both, its hard to compare though... they produce different atmospheres.
|
The last few minutes of studio Salival are amazing.
|
I actually haven't heard the Salival. Could someone send it?
|
Really? Whoa... I'll send over MSN, if you wish.
|
any1 have AIM?
|
I do, but I don't have live Pu****.
|
I'm thinking the album will be a late spring/summer release for next year. We'll probably hear a single before then though. I can't wait.
|
Heh. Well, I'm asking for live Push!t.
|
Heh. Well, I'm asking for live Push!t.
Yeah, I'm just bored beyond all reason. I'm getting Opiate today. I'll finally hear it. |
Opiate is just a very solid borderline metal album. Very fun to listen to.
Part of Me and Cold and Ugly get frequent listens from me. |
Lateralus>Aenema.
That's how I feel these days. But I can assure you, in a few weeks... Aenema>Lateralus It's always like that. |
Albums or songs? I'm assuming you mean albums, but in that case, it's "Ænima."
|
OMG, I always thought the song name was Aenima and the album Aenema. I think it is.
|
No sir.
