The Ashtray Girl 11-22-2004 01:29 PM

U2 for me, first album I've ever bought on day of release.

Luxor 11-22-2004 02:01 PM

RainMaker14 = Cool newb.

The Ashtray Girl 11-22-2004 03:45 PM

Seconded.

Tangy zizzle 11-22-2004 03:50 PM

He did mention the Sea & Cake...

Dude you wanna join a posse?

Iai 11-22-2004 03:55 PM

I've listened to Pinkerton 7 times through today. Seriously. I don't think I've ever done that with any album before.

Tangy zizzle 11-22-2004 03:57 PM

BAM!

Another convert. That album is incredible isn't it. It takes the total and utter pop leanings of Blue and just paints them black. Brilliance.

Iai 11-22-2004 04:05 PM

I've always thought it was a great album, but today I just immersed myself in it completely. I just couldn't get enough of it. It was strange.

Tangy zizzle 11-22-2004 04:07 PM

Could be your uh, situation. ??

It's a bloody brilliant album. It's really quite cathartic.

Iai 11-22-2004 04:14 PM

It is really cathartic, you're right. It amazes me how stunningly its hit the nail on the head, emotionally - it's actually pretty child-like; lyrically, the way things are expressed; but it gets straight to the heart of things. And there's so much emotional confusion and frustration in there, too. It's like puberty set to music.

It's partly my situation, partly the fact that we discussed Madame Butterfly in Music, and partly because of some stuff I went through last year it also reminds me of. It wasn't like, revelling in pain though. I found it pretty uplifting. Like you said, cathartic.

Tangy zizzle 11-22-2004 04:19 PM

It is lyrically simple isn't it. Take Butterfly for instance, such a basic song with almost juvenile lyrics, but it works. It works so so well.

Across The Sea is another totally basic song, but it happens to be the best (IMO) on the disc.

Man I love Pinkerton.

Iai 11-22-2004 04:28 PM

My faves are Getchoo, Pink Triangle, and El Scorcho.

El Scorcho especially, just for the references to Public Enemy and ECW.

Tangy zizzle 11-22-2004 04:31 PM

Extreme Championship Wrestling?

songster 11-22-2004 05:16 PM

Here's what I've been digging lately:
Off of the new Cake album: Wheels and She'll Hang the Baskets
Off of the new Le Tigre album: Seconds, Don't Drink Poison and TKO
Off of Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth: Teenage Riot and Candles

Iai 11-22-2004 05:26 PM
Extreme Championship Wrestling?
Yeah.

"Watching Grunge leg-drop New Jack through a press table..."

Zappa 11-22-2004 05:31 PM

Rubber Soul by the Beatles. "Norwegian Wood" is a song I like a lot. Don't you?

Happymeal 11-22-2004 05:36 PM

Getting a Murder City Devils album. I like the song Dancin' Shoes.

Master Arkam Kannon 11-22-2004 05:58 PM
Rubber Soul by the Beatles. "Norwegian Wood" is a song I like a lot. Don't you?
yes.

YDload 11-22-2004 06:35 PM

I saw the Shortlist awards presentation on MTV2. They showed the video for "Starin' At the Sun," and I thought it was actually kind of weak. But then when TV On the Radio played it live, the song was so much more energetic. Is that accurate? I mean, the first time I ever heard the song is when they performed it live on "Last Call," so I might be a bit biased to that version.

Well_Respected_Man 11-22-2004 06:35 PM

Gong.

cpaulsen20 11-22-2004 09:58 PM

I've been listening to Vetiver, a great track would be angels' share. Also just bought Urban Hymns by The Verve. Great album. Also Cornelis Vreeswijk Guldkorn, favorite track being Turistens klagan.

Oh, first post, btw.

Ahh the best Beatles album :thumb:

I found my Kyuss CD, so I'm playing that now

Robert Crumb 11-22-2004 10:09 PM

Half Japanese. U.S. Teens are Spoiled Bums.

Zappa 11-22-2004 10:19 PM

I finally obeyed the hype and downloaded "Funeral" by The Arcade Fire. I would say that I certainly like it.

Reaganista 11-22-2004 10:21 PM

good choice.

Zappa 11-22-2004 10:24 PM

This music is overproduced and has an absurd sense of bravado, but it's got a certain appeal. I dont' think it will hold up to many listens, but I'll enjoy it for now.

Tangy zizzle 11-22-2004 11:28 PM

OMG Zappa is an indie kid!!

br3ad_man 11-23-2004 12:48 AM

There used to be an awesome site where you could stream every single one of their albums. The guy shut it down though, because the RIAA scared him.

br3ad_man 11-23-2004 04:30 PM

It wasn't a stream. It was an actual download!

:upset:

Iai 11-23-2004 04:34 PM

Today I have been mostly enjoying The Doors, and Sly & The Family Stone.

And Pinkerton. Still.

Sad thing is, all the albums I wanna listen to at work are on my PC, and my CD player doesn't play ripped CDs. Meanwhile, my mp3 player needs maintenance. :(

Luxor 11-23-2004 04:35 PM
It wasn't a stream. It was an actual download!

:upset:
Hmm, I wonder why I never actually downloaded the tracks. I just remember always streaming them... *Shrugs*

vallely2004 11-23-2004 04:37 PM

I've been diggin' Biffy Clyro, QOTSA's split EP with Beaver that I got recently and Jimmy Eat World
