Digging some good bands/artists lately
Bands i have been really into as of late, and that i recommend anyone who really is into melodic sounds and really ingenuitive beats should check out:
Say hi to your mom the sea and cake cake zwan/SP/Billy Corgan Death Cab for Cutie/ The Postal service The shins DJ shadow Mos def's new cd (Bad brains is on it) Dell (Rapper on the gorillaz single "clint eastwood" for those who are unfamiliar) Handsome boy modeling school Aesop Rock Blindside And you will know us by the trail of dead The Secret Machines :thumb: |
U2 for me, first album I've ever bought on day of release.
|
RainMaker14 = Cool newb.
|
Seconded.
|
He did mention the Sea & Cake...
Dude you wanna join a posse? |
I've listened to Pinkerton 7 times through today. Seriously. I don't think I've ever done that with any album before.
|
BAM!
Another convert. That album is incredible isn't it. It takes the total and utter pop leanings of Blue and just paints them black. Brilliance. |
I've always thought it was a great album, but today I just immersed myself in it completely. I just couldn't get enough of it. It was strange.
|
Could be your uh, situation. ??
It's a bloody brilliant album. It's really quite cathartic. |
It is really cathartic, you're right. It amazes me how stunningly its hit the nail on the head, emotionally - it's actually pretty child-like; lyrically, the way things are expressed; but it gets straight to the heart of things. And there's so much emotional confusion and frustration in there, too. It's like puberty set to music.
It's partly my situation, partly the fact that we discussed Madame Butterfly in Music, and partly because of some stuff I went through last year it also reminds me of. It wasn't like, revelling in pain though. I found it pretty uplifting. Like you said, cathartic. |
It is lyrically simple isn't it. Take Butterfly for instance, such a basic song with almost juvenile lyrics, but it works. It works so so well.
Across The Sea is another totally basic song, but it happens to be the best (IMO) on the disc. Man I love Pinkerton. |
My faves are Getchoo, Pink Triangle, and El Scorcho.
El Scorcho especially, just for the references to Public Enemy and ECW. |
Extreme Championship Wrestling?
|
Here's what I've been digging lately:
Off of the new Cake album: Wheels and She'll Hang the Baskets Off of the new Le Tigre album: Seconds, Don't Drink Poison and TKO Off of Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth: Teenage Riot and Candles |
Extreme Championship Wrestling?
Yeah. "Watching Grunge leg-drop New Jack through a press table..." |
Rubber Soul by the Beatles. "Norwegian Wood" is a song I like a lot. Don't you?
|
Getting a Murder City Devils album. I like the song Dancin' Shoes.
|
Rubber Soul by the Beatles. "Norwegian Wood" is a song I like a lot. Don't you?
yes. |
I saw the Shortlist awards presentation on MTV2. They showed the video for "Starin' At the Sun," and I thought it was actually kind of weak. But then when TV On the Radio played it live, the song was so much more energetic. Is that accurate? I mean, the first time I ever heard the song is when they performed it live on "Last Call," so I might be a bit biased to that version.
|
Gong.
|
I've been listening to Vetiver, a great track would be angels' share. Also just bought Urban Hymns by The Verve. Great album. Also Cornelis Vreeswijk Guldkorn, favorite track being Turistens klagan.
Oh, first post, btw. |
Rubber Soul by the Beatles. "Norwegian Wood" is a song I like a lot. Don't you?
Ahh the best Beatles album :thumb: I found my Kyuss CD, so I'm playing that now |
Half Japanese. U.S. Teens are Spoiled Bums.
|
I finally obeyed the hype and downloaded "Funeral" by The Arcade Fire. I would say that I certainly like it.
|
good choice.
|
This music is overproduced and has an absurd sense of bravado, but it's got a certain appeal. I dont' think it will hold up to many listens, but I'll enjoy it for now.
|
OMG Zappa is an indie kid!!
|
TV On The Radio, Radiohead and Delirious
EDIT: 200th post! |

There used to be an awesome site where you could stream every single one of their albums. The guy shut it down though, because the RIAA scared him. |
It wasn't a stream. It was an actual download!
:upset: |
Today I have been mostly enjoying The Doors, and Sly & The Family Stone.
And Pinkerton. Still. Sad thing is, all the albums I wanna listen to at work are on my PC, and my CD player doesn't play ripped CDs. Meanwhile, my mp3 player needs maintenance. :( |
It wasn't a stream. It was an actual download!
:upset:
Hmm, I wonder why I never actually downloaded the tracks. I just remember always streaming them... *Shrugs* |
I've been diggin' Biffy Clyro, QOTSA's split EP with Beaver that I got recently and Jimmy Eat World
