If it's only 5 minutes or so, it doesn't matter much. Chances are they'll still be playing trailers.

Jesus freaking christ yesterday at 3:00am (lol, I'm like a nightwatcher here) some junkie got into our apartment block, climbed up, broke the window got out to the roof and started breaking things, wtf. Thankfully the police were here soon enough (police department is right next to my house) and they took him away. Now there's blood all over the place :\ I want a gun but I only have a hoe. And a kitchen knife..

Get some OC spray. Its like pepper spray and its what we use here at the jail and cops use it as well. You can order it off of law enforcement supply websites and they don't check to see if you are actually law enforcement.

But you might also want to install security grills on your street-facing windows, and have the police come around to check the security of your apartment. They do that for free here in Australia, at least.

This is the first time I've heard of this. Alternative forms of self defence are not popular here. I'm thinking that in the USA there might be instances of psychologically unstable people having access to guns and killing whomever they see but at least the average person has a slight sense of safety carrying a gun :\
