welcome good friend!! all Maiden fanatics are welcome here...we are all obsessed and couldnt be happier about it :)
since your knew...what songs are you most into? we all preety well know each other's fav tracks. |
im sick of the "your fav song?" whe got like one each 5th page...
|
Here's a good question for you bassists out there: Which Maiden songs can you play the whole way through? I've got but a few:
The Trooper Number of the Beast Run to the Hills Invaders ... and maybe Flight of Icarus. |
my favoriote songs have got to be hallow be thy name, fear of the dark, wasted love, the thin line between love and hate, and the trooper
|
i can play the trooper through
|
I Can play:
The trooper Rime of the ancient Mariner Hallowed Be thy Name most of run to the hills(i gotto sit down with that song to get the rest...) Iron Maiden Phantom of the opera (live tempo :D) Major Parts of Revelations... so i have an good start for my tribute band.... now i have to find an wig and steves soccer uniform :p |
Wow. I finally downloaded "Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner" and it's an awesome song! I also learned how to play the opening guitar riff on my bass (because that's probably how Steve wrote it, and it also gets stuck in my head).
|
i know SO MANY Maiden songs on bass and on guitar i know about 15 solos...the wickerman is a bitch to pull off hehe. if you know the F major scale, you can figure out ALOT of their riffs n leads hehe.
|
My fav maiden songs
1.POWERSLAVE 2.HALLOWED BE THY NAME 3.PASCHENDALE 4.2 MINUTES TO MIDNIGHT 5.FEAR OF THE DARK i didnt see too many of you mentioning those songs, what do you think of them? |
Powerslave- argubly the best song from "powerslave" and IMO one of Davey's best leads is in that song as well. Great lyrical content from Steve about Egypt (eye of horus, etc...) and a chorus to die for.
Hallowed be Thy Name- a song that most Maiden fan's say helped get them into the band, but after becoming a Maiden-nut it is easily forgotten by other fan favourites. Still very memorable and i always prefer a live version to it than the studio one. Nicko's favourite song to play live :) Paschendale- probley the most well written song by the band in over a decade, a real opus for the group, Adrian completly shreds on his lead and has some of the most moving lyrics in Maiden history, espicaly the (cruelty have a human heart...) line. One of the most powerful tracks in the band catalog not to mention an energetic and atmospheric masterpiece. Two Minutes to Midnight- another predictable Maiden classic that i have always thought has gotten more praise than i think it deserved. dont get me wrong, i love the song but they (espically Adrian) have written better. The outro is my favourite part (repeating "midnight") overall a great Maiden track and always a live favoruite. Fear of the Dark- everything about this song hits home for me, the intro shoots adrenealine through your veins and interlude is fantastic. Uplifting music and a highlight of the end of their 10 year stint with Bruce in 92'...great song to end it with, even if the album had some filler. |
1. number of the beast.
2. invaders. 3. run to the hills. 4. the trooper. 5. fear of the dark. 6. clansman. 7. iron maiden. 8. running free 9. the prisoner 10. 22 acacia avenue 11. wrathchild 12. aces high 13. tailgunner 14. clairvoyant and a few more i cant think of... |
... flight of icarus
hallowed be thy name most of sign of the cross wish i could play women in uniform!!!! |
^^^ i can play these on bass by the way not guitar although iv got an electric guitar i cant be bothered with it
|
way to spam :thumb:
you better not be playing thoose with an pick!!! *Mx guard-of-ironmaiden-bass-playing* |
^^^
i NEVER use a pic on bass and I got Harris style down to a science. Whenever i play anything else with my friends (Zeppelin, Sabbath, etc..) i always end up galloping everything...its not intential just its natural now haha. |
i hate iron maiden but good guitarist
|
i hate iron maiden but good guitarist
you know, i have heard that maggots are what slipknot fans are called.. so you have no right on commenting whats good or bad music, EVER! sod off! Frail: a bassist who plays Maiden with an pick wouldnt like to meet me... at all :p and my style is pretty much an harris rip off, exept for my right hand :p but it sounds like harris... you have some more yars at maiden studys than me :p |
Actually hes un-informed. Maggots were what the black metal band Venom used to call their fans, so hes nothing more than a gloroifed uneducated poster metalhead who will never understand metal.
haha, do you have a P-bass Eddie-the-trooper? i wanna order his custom seymore duncan pickups...maybe an x-mas gift :) i can gallop like a motherfu*ker! haha |

If you guys check on e-bay, you can always find some choice Harris signature P-basses. About a thousand bucks if you wanna know.
|
I rarely use a pick, and never for Maiden. I only use a pick for certain cover songs with my band (Jet's - Are you gonna be my girl, for example) But I prefer fingers. I remember watching Harris' styke and he plays and his hand moves like he's usin a pic, even though he's not, it was kind of funny to watch. I guess a bass player who learned finger picking from his style would do that too, I play like Burton because I learned from his style, but either way, Harris is **** good.

your right, Bruce did write all of Powerslave! Another reason i like Bruce at the helm of the band over Paul, Bruce can really hold his own when it comes to submititng killer tracks like "flash of the blade" "bring your daughter...to the slaughter" etc...i said what i said about "two minutes to midnight" because to me some songs are more bland in the studio but really shine live, and thats one of them...being an Adrian dominated song, i feel he's done better, but still love the song :)
I think we should all give opinions on some Maiden songs, see how each of us views them. What is everyone's opinions of "Die with your boots on"...one of my top 5 favourite Maiden tracks in the histroy of the band. :) |

Yes, i ment get the same ones Steve uses for my P-bass. If you want to help out your sound on the amp...turn all the Mid's to ( 0 ) and the bass to (4) and the treble to (7) thats how i have it and when i have new strings on it sounds alot like Steve's signature sound! the trick is elimating the mids i think. |
Well die with your boots on is indeed a great song, but not one of my top 5.
Where the hell did you get to know that bruce wrote whole powerslave? Aces high: Harris 2 minutes to midnight: Adrian and bruce Losfer words: Harris Flash of the blade: Bruce The duelists: harris Back in the village: adrian and bruce Powerslave: dickinson Rime of the ancient mariner: Harris Still, the whole band are included during the writing period, so you can say that everyone in the band contributed there. (Maybe except Nicko though) |
well the band has their input in the songs sure, but Bruce came up with the guitar riffs / lyrics/ and vocal harmonies. He sure didnt write Davey or H's lead's but the majority of the song was his doing.

ive got a zoom506II bass effects thingy and i cant seem to get it soundin like harris at all can sum1 help? ... i never use a pick... im a finger kind of guy
|

an tip if you anna sound like harris... study his hands, try to do what he do(he does NOT play the way most bassists who play fingerstyle does... his fingers kinda jump around...) and, loose the effect board.... and, i just wondered, is it usually mosh pits at maiden concerts, since, thoose times i where, people was more intrested in the band... i go to concerts to see the band, not to be beaten up..(well, since im like 20 cm above the average person it wouldnt been an major problem :p) |

I can't really understand what you're saying. It seems to me that you claim that Bruce Dickinson wrote the whole album. Not Iron Maiden. |
